    Senior Manager, Card Manager

    JOB PURPOSE:

    The role is responsible for ensuring efficient functioning of Card Operations with the use of acquired knowledge in Visa and MasterCard related activities and supervising associated processes such as Point of Sale and ATM settlements, reconciliation, chargeback cycles and card payments. This role is also responsible for continuously exploring and implementing new methodologies to improve processes and must be well conversant with the Bank’s policies, regulator’s guidelines and Card Payment Schemes’ rules and regulations.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will report to the General Manager- Shared Services and will be responsible for:

    • Managing the card operation cycles and reconciliation processes effectively to ensure accurate and timely settlements;
    • Tracking notifications from Visa Online/MasterCard Online and managing these resources effectively to avoid penalties and unnecessary charges;
    • Managing the entire Chargeback cycle which includes Retrieval Requests, Representations, Compliance and Arbitrations;
    • Handling Visa and MasterCard related documentation such as Exhibits;
    • Supervising the resolution of card transaction disputes and ensuring effective and timely action of disputes to provide good customer service;
    • Compiling MIS, analyzing the reports and explaining variances prior to distributing to Management;
    • Acting as the contact person for Quarterly MasterCard Reporting (QMR) and VISA Operating Certificates (VOC);
    • Extracting daily, weekly and monthly MIS from Card Management System and the SWITCH for effective monitoring of transactions and volumes for business/operational and risk perspective in liaison with the Card Risk team.
    • Ensuring existing controls related to card operations are maintained and striving to continuously tighten controls;
    • Playing a lead role in all card related system testing for all enhancements, mandates, new products and new systems;
    • Implementing and educating the staff on Chargebacks/Card Operations on bi-annual enhancements of Visa and MasterCard and ensuring the system enhancements are installed well ahead of the deadlines; and
    • Managing the performance of the team.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIREMENTS:

    • Masters of Business Administration or its equivalent from a recognized institution will be an added advantage; and
    • Bachelor’s degree in a Business related field from a recognized institution.

    Professional Qualifications

    • Member of Associate of Kenya Institute of Bankers (AKIB) or its equivalent professional body.

    Experience

    • At least 5 years relevant experience.

    Skills and Attributes

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Strong planning and organization skills;
    • Excellent problem-solving skills;
    • Conversant with Visa and MasterCard operations and transactions flows; and
    • Knowledge in EMV and 3D secure transactions
