The factory mill has a crushing capacity of 180 tonnes of sugar cane per hour with a target of 4000 tonnes per day with the installation of two new cane feeder tables. As a result of the fertile soil and sustained progress made in these areas, sugar production has increased from less than 20,000 tonnes in 2012 to reach 89,000 tonnes in 2016-17.
Cane is 100% supplied by the 14,700 outgrowers of the region on an estimated area of 14,000 hectares to the Transmara factory. Over the years, the company provides planters’ relations that include, irrigation, fertilization, harvest and transport facilities from the fields to the factory. Our dedicated support team also interacts on a regular basis with the outgrowers’ community to address immediate matters arising in various locations. These meetings have mutually enriched our relationship to help forge a close and transparent approach with the outgrowers. Several regional offices within farming areas have been created to work closely with local farming communities in order to facilitate the outgrowers’ work and secure the supply of cane to the factory. Transmara has also made significant investments in road infrastructure and maintenance in parallel with the factory’s expansion that has led to the region’s development. Through its CSR programme, Transmara targets the access to water, healthcare, education and infrastructure improvements.
