About the Role
We are seeking to recruit a mid-level climate change and energy professional to support our policy and advocacy projects on climate justice and energy access in a way that maximises relevance to and impact in Africa. The post aims to lead Christian Aid’s energy strategy, focusing on the African continent. Within the energy transition out of fossil fuels and into the renewables framework, this post will seek opportunities to advance the renewable energy access agenda at the national and regional levels and strategic opportunities to connect to global processes. This role is recruited on a national contract basis.
Reporting to the Climate Justice Lead, you be the focal point for implementing a specific project on energy access which will focus on shifting finance out of fossil fuels and into renewable energy and researching the role of MDBs in financing renewable energy. You will align the climate justice and energy access policy and advocacy with the country priorities in the Africa Division, the Christian Aid Strategy ‘Standing together’ and the Global Climate Justice policy and advocacy strategy. You will provide strategic support to partners and helps deliver high-quality interventions, requiring a solid understanding of the pan-African and key national contexts.
You will also undertake additional work with the Christian Aid global team and African regional partners on policy and advocacy towards implementing the Paris agreement on climate change, loss & damage and ensuring adequate climate funding for adaptation, loss and damage, mitigation and resilience is targeted to most vulnerable communities.
