    Intern - Instructional Design and Communications

    Duties may include the following tasks, depending on the profile of the intern and initial discussions with the team and supervisor:

    • Instructional design and Learning Management System (LMS) support:
    • Assist the team in designing learning experiences, such as e-learning courses and webinars
    • Support content implementation in Moodle and/or Articulate Rise/Storyline
    • Support the management and upgrade of the UN-Habitat Learn platform
    • Graphic design and video making and editing
    • Support the development of graphic design-related products including design of presentation and report templates, infographic, webinar banner
    • Assist in planning, reviewing and coordinating the making of Global Urban Lecture videos;
    • Support with recording and editing live videos, and/or designing and editing animated videos.
    • Communication and advocacy Support internal communication of the section’s activities, services and products, including showcasing innovative capacity development products, organizing and communicating helpdesk resources and services, designing and promoting brownbag sessions.
    • Support external communication to promote activities, courses and learning events, including drafting content for newsletter, social media, web pages and planning and rollout of communication campaigns.
    • Project assistance: Provide support in developing, planning, tracking, and reporting on project activities, ensuring deadlines and objectives are met;
    • Assist in coordinating and communicating with stakeholders, including scheduling meetings, organizing events, and preparing agendas and minutes;
    • Support to organize project documentation, plans, and reports.
    • Collaborative work: Work collaboratively with other team members to undertake any other assignments necessary to support the implementation of the unit’s work programme.

    Qualifications/special skills

    Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),
    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
    • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • Preferred areas of study: Currently pursuing or hold a Master’s degree in Design, Design thinking, Instructional design, Communication, Media studies, Marketing, Graphic design, Visual communication, Digital media, or similar relevant topic. Knowledge of Canva, Moodle and Articulate Rise desirable.

    Intern - Information Management for Evaluation Support

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the IEU with knowledge and information management related to decentralized evaluations.
    • Assist in maintaining and improving simple tracking tools for evaluations, recommendations, and follow-up actions.
    • Support the structuring, filing, and archiving of evaluation reports, management responses, and related documentation.
    • Support workflow automation using standard Microsoft 365 tools (e.g. PowerAutomate, SharePoint, Lists, Teams, Outlook) for information sharing and coordination.
    • Assist with improvements to internal workflows, such as reminders, document routing, or notifications, with guidance.
    • Contribute to preparing and formatting guidance notes or user instructions for internal use.
    • Provide general administrative and information management support to the IEU, as required.

    Solid Waste Policy Analyst

    Under the supervision of Waste Management Expert, UBSS the consultant will undertake the following tasks;

    • Development of a stakeholder analysis report to study their roles, demarcation, and gaps. The analyst will coordinate with stakeholders to define roles, demarcate responsibilities, and identify gaps in environmental policy.
    • The analysis will also evaluate past and current policy interventions concerning solid waste and marine litter management in Tanzania.
    • First draft of stakeholder analysis report formulated – 31 March 2026
    • Based on desk-based study and interviews, identify and interview key stakeholders involved in SWM and marine plastic management, including government officials, NGOs, international organizations, and the private sector.
    • Formulate the first draft of the analysis report. 

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Policy, Economic or in a closely related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • A minimum of five years’ experience in events organization, natural resources and solid waste management or a related field is required. Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to organize and plan events together with critical and analytical thinking is required.
    • Proficiency in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required Experience in the United Nations, other international development agencies or governmental organizations is desirable.

    Intern - Urban Research, Project Management, and Academic Partnerships

    Responsibilities

    • The internship offers an exciting and vibrant learning environment and opportunities for professional growth. The intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the work of CDS in three main focused areas:
    • the planning, design, development, and management of capacity-development projects and programmes focused on sustainable urban development;
    • research and writing of technical background papers and frameworks; and enhanced impact of capacity development products through digital learning platforms - UN-Habitat Learn - and communication tools. The intern will also support partnership management and coordination of the unit’s ongoing projects. 

    Qualifications/special skills
