    Information Technology Assistant, G6

    Responsibilities

     Network Administration:

    • Participate in the management of UNON’s Local Area Network including Wireless Network and Wide area Network.
    • Analyze and plan for the implementation of network projects in accordance with applicable UN policies and standards.
    • Review network configuration ensuring maximum efficiency and optimal usage of resources.
    • Participate in the management of network backup and security enforcement policies.
    • Assist with and supervise the work of personnel and/or contractors assigned to the Network Security Unit. f) Assist with the implementation of new and emerging technologies for data integration.
    • Support the design, implementation and maintenance of Data Security projects with emphasis in network security, monitoring, resourcing, and other UN standard technologies.
    • Maintain properly administered access control lists including rights and privileges.
    • Create scripts in python and ansible to automate repetitive network task.
    • Develop and design solutions around network automation and programmability.
    • Participate in major network implementations.
    • Participate in creating and updating network documentation and reviewing of syslog data.
    • Liaise with UNON service desk to troubleshoot any network related problems.
    • Log-in service requests and update work orders in accordance with established procedure; distribute work assignments and monitor progress.
    • Log all actions in the work order tracking system, steps taken to resolve problem or to complete task, problems encountered and current status.
    • Acts as problem escalation point for technical staff at lower levels; escalate problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedure.
    • Monitor problems to resolution; detect problem patterns and recommend solutions.
    • Perform quality assurance procedures to ensure client satisfaction.
    • Perform other related duties as required.

    Network Security:

    • Participate in planning, implementing, operating and maintaining security controls.
    • Perform regular vulnerability assessments of production systems to identify weaknesses and determine the need for security updates and fixes.
    • Draft documentation and reports. d) Implement information systems policies, strategies and activities of the Information and Communication Technology Services.
    • Participate in analysis of IDS alerts and regular review of network equipment operating system and corresponding vendor security advisories. f) Ensure all network equipment is adequately monitored with appropriate alert escalation.

    Technology Research:

    • Carry out research and evaluation of hardware, software and communication products and assist in establishing and maintaining performance indicators.
    • Participate in testing and evaluating new tools and technologies and making recommendations on the adaptation of such tools to the immediate supervisor.
    • Draft end-user and/or technical documentation.
    • Keep abreast of developments in information systems and technology in order to make recommendations to supervisors.
    • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
    • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
    • Perform other relevant duties.

    Education

    • Completion of secondary education or high school diploma is required.
    • A minimum of CCNP Routing and Switching and Devnet are required.
    • Additional technical trainings or certifications with emphasis on Network Routing and Switching, Intrusion Detection Systems, Network Programmability and Automation and Network Security and Wireless is desirable.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in the information technology in the areas of Routing and Switching, Python Scripting and Network Automation, Troubleshooting, Wireless and Network Security is required.
    • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced by two (2) years for candidates who possess a first level University degree. Strong technical skills in network design, implementation, troubleshooting, and management is required. Familiarity with various vendor network equipment (Cisco, Checkpoint, Fortinet, Ruckus) is required. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Protocol Officer, Noc

    Responsibilities

    Administration and Resource Management

    • Supervise the preparation and review of official correspondence, including note verbales, briefing notes, reports, memoranda and communications with government authorities and client entities.
    • Monitor and report on the Unit's performance against established key performance indicators (KPIs) and recommend corrective measures where necessary.
    • Prepare budget proposals and cost estimates for the Unit and monitor implementation and expenditure to ensure compliance with approved allocations and financial regulations.
    • Review and validate service billing and cost recovery reports for client entities subscribing to HCSU services.
    • Identify operational risks and service delivery challenges and recommend appropriate mitigation measures to management.
    • Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
    • Ensure that requirements and background information used for data analysis are documented.

    Human Resources Management:

    • Manage and supervise staff of the Unit, including work allocation, performance management, and professional development.
    • Coordinate human resources actions within the Unit, including recruitment, onboarding, learning and development, succession planning and separation, in accordance with UN policies and procedures.
    • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and client-oriented work environment and promote high standards of professionalism, accountability and service excellence.
    • Identify training needs and ensure staff have the knowledge and skills required to effectively perform their functions.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Education

    • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in International Relations, Political Science, Law, Public Administration, Diplomacy, Foreign Affairs, Business Administration or a related field is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant and progressively responsible working experience in protocol services, diplomatic relations, government liaison or a related area is required.
    • Experience in the interpretation and application of host country agreements, privileges and immunities and liaison with government authorities is required.
    • Experience supervising staff and managing service delivery operations is required. Experience in the United Nations Common System or international organization is desirable.
    • Experience using information management systems and analyzing service delivery data to support operational decision-making is desirable.

    Human Resource Intern

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Under the direct supervision of the cluster team leads the intern will assist with data analysis, reporting and record-keeping documentation for the Talent Acquisition Unit (TAU):
    • Generating, digitizing, and maintaining documentation for staff and non-staff recruitment.
    • Collecting data from various sources, such as databases and spreadsheets, and ensuring its accuracy.
    • Cleaning and transforming raw data for analysis purposes.
    • Creating clear and easy-to-understand data visualizations like charts and graphs.
    • Providing support for various activities, including creating memos, following up contracts, and official documents.
    • Review non-staff files and records to identify those to be retained or destroyed based on established policies.
    • Work closely with the Records Management Team to ensure compliance with organizational guidelines.
    • Create detailed reports summarizing the review process and decisions made.
    • Cross-reference files with organizational retention policies and legal compliance requirements.
    • Suggest improvements to the current filing and records review process based on observations.
    • Prepare a brief report or presentation on findings and recommendations at the end of the internship.
    • Document workflows and propose enhancements for future efficiency.
    • Collaborating in the design and improvement of archives and records keeping.
    • Contributing to the enhancement of archives and records keeping for team documents.
    • Undertake tasks related to creation, organization, indexing, storage, retention and disposal of records.
    • Performing other assigned duties as needed.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study:
    • Undergraduate studies in Computer Sciences, Human Resources, Business Administration or related field is required.
    • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
    • However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
    • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent),
    • Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria?
