    Home Health Nurse, Home Care Health Services

    Position Summary

    The AKUH@Home field nurse aims to provide care that is compassionate, safe, ethical, patient- and family-centered, culturally congruent and evidence-based to enhance quality of life, augment accessibility and continuity of care, and improve patient outcome. The position holder will be responsible for providing community based services which include comprehensive nursing assessment, patient advocacy, exquisite care-coordination of medical care teams, routine medication administration and supportive care measures under clinical supervision.

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform comprehensive patient and environmental assessments related to home health needs
    • Develop care plan in consultation with clinician
    • Coordinate and implement care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum, utilizing nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation)
    • Provide nursing care, administer medication and perform routine clinical procedures (including vital signs, I/V cannulation, access ports, IV drug/fluid administration, phlebotomy, collection and handling of specimens, etc.) according to program policies within the prescribed plan, in the home setting
    • Monitor the patient's physiological, physical and emotional response to treatment and identify patterns and trends. Able to pick up early warning signs and seek immediate support
    • Evaluates patient’s response to plan of care and works in collaboration with the primary clinician to make any needed adjustments
    • Support the patient and family (including psychosocial support) through disease progression, symptom management, advanced care planning and life closure, as appropriate
    • Identifies learning needs of the patient and families and educates them by adapting to patient and family learning style utilizing the teach-back method.
    • Fulfil safety and regulatory requirements: Perform initial and routine safety checks to ensure compliance and to assess and maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff in accordance with regulatory and institutional health standards.
    • Ensure appropriate handling and disposal of biological and hazardous specimens/materials
    • Oversee inventory management and facilitate maintenance of clinical supplies
    • Ensure all near-misses, accidents, incidents and complaints are reported and to assist in the timely investigation and closure of same.
    • Manage and maintain patient records for each visit

    Requirements:

    • KRCHN/RN/BScN from a recognized school of nursing or University
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Minimum requirement of 3 years’ continuous clinical experience in medical surgical Nursing. Experience in oncology, home care and/or palliative care is preferred

    Project Manager, Brain and Mind Institute

    Job Summary

    As part of the Broad Institute funded Genetics of PTSD in African Ancestry Populations project, this position will support the Principal Investigator to carry out the project aims. A culmination of assigned tasks will ensure that the project adheres to ethical guidelines and regulations; required number of research participants are recruited, consented, and followed up; data collected is clean, kept private and confidential.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead overall coordination and supervision of the PTSD study activities at Aga Khan University Hospital, Mama Lucy Hospital and Mbagathi Hospital;
    • Ensure study implementation follows research ethics standards and the study protocol, including policies and regulations related to safety, privacy and confidentiality;
    • Monitor project milestones and deliverables, identify potential delays, bottlenecks and their effects on project deliverables; and implement strategies to ensure operational effectiveness;
    • Manage research implementation cycle schedules including leading implementation activities, opening meetings, monthly and quarterly project and budget variance meetings, closing meetings and conduct follow-ups;
    • Preparation of study tools including undertaking pilot and pre-tests and calibrating tools. Also streamlining data collection tools within the preferred electronic platform;
    • Lead in preparation and facilitate certifications/ approvals for research protocol and procurement of study devices and software;
    • Review, summarize, analyze and report of study outputs;
    • Storage of data in private and confidential manner- and in compliance of Kenya data protection laws;
    • Ensure study supplies are stored safely and accounted for including any monies allotted to study activities; and
    • Prepare and monitor a project risk register.

    Requirements

    • Masters level training in a related field (i.e., Project Management, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, Social Sciences, Anthropology, Public Health);
    • 3-5 years’ experience in research preferably in a managerial position;
    • At least one-year experience in field data collection preferably in hospital settings;
    • Educational or experiential knowledge of psychological tests administration;
    • Experience in using SPSS and any other statistical software;
    • Academic exposure and interest in PTSD and Genetics; and
    • Knowledge of data collection as per data protection guidelines.

    Research Assistants, Brain and Mind Institute

    Job Summary

    • The Research Assistants in the Genetic of PTSD in African Ancestry Populations Study will be domiciled in the Brain and Mind Institute and perform the roles attached to the study. The Research Assistants will ensure smooth and successful enrollment of participants into the study. They will also be expected to meet study targets as well as report to the research manager.
    • We are looking to engage three (3) Research Assistants on a one-year renewable contract for a maximum of three years.

    Responsibilities

    • Identify potential study participants and recruit them into the study;
    • Undertake enrolment of eligible participants based on the study protocol;
    • Document implementation lessons, challenges and possible mitigation strategies;
    • Participate in data entry and data management; and
    • Good Record keeping and management as per the study protocol.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following (or closely related) fields: Public Health, Social Sciences, Project Planning and Management, Community Health or Health Systems Management.
    • Proficiency in MS Office suite of software;
    • Working knowledge of databases e.g. redcap;
    • Two (2) years of work experience in a research program;
    • Experience working in mental health projects strongly preferred;
    • Computer literate and able to use various applications; and
    • Knowledge of data collection as per Data protection guidelines.

    Project Assistant, Brain and Mind Institute

    Job Summary

    • Participate in recruitment and consenting of study participants, administration and scoring of study questionnaires;
    • Timely, preferably daily, submission of all data collected;
    • Cleaning, reviewing, and entering data into study database;
    • Assist in summarising, analysing and reporting of study outputs; and
    • Storage of data in private and confidential manner- and in compliance of Kenya data protection laws.

    Requirements

    Manager, Grants & Compliance, AKU Finance (2 years Fixed Term Contract)

    Job Purpose/Summary

    • Reporting to the Director, Bilateral and Multilateral Relations, the role focuses on coordinating grants management, monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes, ensuring donor compliance while working in collaboration with other entity staff to produce high-quality and timely narrative donor reporting as well as conducting staff capacity building on grants management and reporting.
    • The Manager, Grants and Compliance will be responsible for providing program teams with general grants management support and advise on donor compliance and AKU regulations to ensure grants are implemented on-track, on-time, and on-budget.
    • This position is ideal for a self-motivated and enthusiastic team player with strong grants experience who can produce quality deliverables within a limited time-period.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Award Management  

    • Manage grants on the full award cycle including solicitation, pre-award, award, monitoring and compliance, reporting and close-out.
    • Develop, maintain, and update grant management tools, templates, policies, SOPs, and guidance documents for award management and administration.
    • Collaborate with Program/Project staff on sub-recipient/subcontract monitoring of deliverables, invoices, compliance with regulations, as well as terms and conditions.
    • Advise program/project staff on matters related to preparation, administration, and close-out of grants and sub-awards.
    • Coordinate regular grant monitoring, using appropriate grant management tools and through facilitation and support of regular Grant Review, Opening, and Closing Meetings
    • Oversee and systematize a comprehensive information management and filing system, ensuring donor contractual documents, reports, and key correspondences are consistently and frequently archived.
    • Support program staff in grant revisions, modifications, no-cost extensions, and/or budget realignments
    • Proactively identify compliance risks throughout the portfolio and advise programs, support teams and senior management on necessary actions
    • Liaise with Programme Leads about specific compliance issues, clearly communicating issues to relevant colleagues.

    Donor reporting

    • Manage all grant reporting to ensure timely delivery of high-quality reports for donors that meet donor requirements, coordinating closely with program managers and coordinators for inputs.
    • Ensure quality information management related to reporting by overseeing the regular maintenance of grant files, reporting calendars, and updating of internal AKU/AKUHN documentation and Grant Unit tools.
    • Alongside the finance team, assist program technical leads and operations staff with understanding the financial reporting requirements of their grants.
    • In collaboration with Program teams prepare donor-ready submissions from academic, hospital, construction and finance teams.
    • Ensure that all donor guidelines and requirements are adhered to.

    Capacity building

    • Conduct ongoing capacity strengthening of staff in report writing, editing and critical analysis.
    • Provide capacity building for staff in grants management, budget monitoring and overall compliance.
    • Support training to program staff related to donor regulations as well as processes for visibility and communications

    Relevant Experience and Qualifications

    • A post-graduate degree or equivalent from a reputable university.
    • Demonstrable donor report writing skills.
    • Mandatory Monitoring and Evaluation expertise
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant work experience
    • Thorough knowledge of bilateral/multilateral donor policies, procedures, and requirements.
    • General knowledge of Foundation and Philanthropic Giving (Private foundations and public charities)
    • Demonstrated ability to form effective and productive relationships with stakeholder counterparts, in order to achieve unit objectives.
    • High degree of accuracy, timeliness, and a very strong attention to detail.
    • Demonstrable understanding of the full-life cycle of awards and the different sub-award mechanisms
    • Fluency in written and spoken English required.
    • Experience of working in an international, multi-cultural environment.
    • Possess a calm disposition, great communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
    • Knowledge of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is desirable.
