Internship Positions at UN-Habitat

The recruited candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Lead of the Urban Mobility team. Supporting the team’s broad set of activities and projects, the Intern’s principal tasks will be as follows:

• Provide programme support to ACRoS; with a focus on drafting a Communication Strategy and implementing it.
• Assist with ongoing communication with partners, current city members and new membership requests.
• Assist the Communications Assistant in updating tasks on the ACRoS website (WordPress platform), ensuring timely and accurate uploads of news, events, and resources. • Draft and edit stories, articles, and web features highlighting ACRoS activities, member contributions, and road safety initiatives for publication on the ACRoS website and other communication channels.
• Provide technical support for ongoing activities, such as developing capacity building materials, planning workshop agendas, managing memberships, and desktop research on road safety data and policies
• Developing surveys and questionnaires for Training-Needs-Assessment, impact assessment and feedback.
• Support the improvement and regular update of the ACRoS website, including adding new functionalities, uploading more relevant literature, and drafting road safety-related articles.
• Develop infographics, maps, tables and similar visual content for promotion and dissemination.
• Support staff in literature review, knowledge piece development, written briefs and reports.
• Support the development of an interactive, learning experience on road safety
• Any other tasks assigned related to the team’s portfolio
• Provide programme support to Port of Dar es Salaam Trade and Transport Improvement project; with a focus on drafting a Communication Strategy.

Qualifications/special skills

• Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),
• Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
• Preferred areas of study: Urban planning/design, Architecture, Computer Science/Information Technology, Data Science; Environmental Science, Innovation Management; Computer Science, Urban Geography or another field deemed relevant to the subject areas covered by the Programme for the purpose of this internship.

Responsibilities

• Assist in drafting, editing and proofreading content for internal and external communications materials
• Supporting the preparation of communication materials to support outreach, advocacy efforts and knowledge sharing such as articles, newsletters, briefs, and social media content for Human Resources.
• Support in conducting research, compilation and preparation of summaries of various HR related topics and discussions.
• Support the preparation of background documents, agendas, and logistic presentations for events and meetings related to HRTU briefings, and training sessions.
• Assist with communication support for events, workshops and campaigns.
• Attend meetings and events as needed and prepare summaries or reports of key discussions and outcomes.
• Assist in compiling and analyzing data and documents.
• Support in responding to general and HR related inquiries.
• Provide assistance on various administrative tasks (e.g., formatting spreadsheets, proofreading text documents, searching archives, running basic reports, etc.)
• Support in reviewing and updating information on the relevant websites for ease of access.
• Maintain organized records of communications.
• Assist with file management.
• Performing any other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Support the HRTU team on their communication efforts to reach out to the wide range of clients on different communication initiatives.
• Design and improve the look and feel of the internal communication materials, that includes posters, quick guides, brochures, presentation decks, templates.
• Assist with improving the look and feel of online communication products.
• Contribute to the discussion of a visual identity for HRTU team.
• Liaises with relevant parties on job specifications and approval of mechanicals for dispatch, etc.
• Tracks and monitors production flow to ensure that deadlines are met.
• Performs other related assigned tasks as required.

Responsibilities

• Under the overall guidance of the Division Director and under the direct supervision of the Human Settlements Officer, Office of the Director, the incumbent will support the duties and responsibilities under four focus areas of the Director’s Office, including but not limited to: 
• Support the Front Office with effective internal coordination and cooperation within GSD Support and facilitate the work of GSD’s coordination modalities and regular meetings, such as: the work of the GSD Focal Points to the Regional Programmes Division
• organization of the annual Global Solutions Division Retreat in January 2026
• collection of GSD inputs to internal documents, reports and ad hoc product 2
• Assist the Front Office in strategic engagement of GSD with other Divisions and Offices of UN-Habitat (Regional Programmes Division, Global Knowledge and Advocacy Division, Corporate Management Division, and the Office of the Executive Director) Support GSD to advance UN-Habitat in inter-Divisional collaboration regarding:
• GSD’s support to the Programme Review Committee’s (PRC) functions assist the Front Office in the finalization and dissemination of UN-Habitat’s 2026 catalogue of services, including the consolidation of content and formatting, liaison with designers on layout and design aspects, and contribute to the drafting of communication and dissemination materials
• facilitation support to the Front Office in finalization of its inputs to the Implementation Strategy of the Strategic Plan (SP) 2026-2029 and to other corporate documents as relevant
• advancement of the new generation of UN-Habitat’s Communities of Practices (CoPs) Support GSD’s preparations and participation in the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13) in Baku in May 2026:
• support the Front Office’s role in the WUF Sub-Committees 2 and 5 and other working groups and in the WUF event planning and organizing as relevant Support the Front Office’s contribution to the UN-Habitat’s Publication Board:
• assist the Front Office in its role in the preparation of the World Cities Report, the 3rd Quadrennial Report and other ad hoc publication review process as relevant.
• Assist the Front Office in GSD’s contributions to the UN Development System collaboration and intergovernmental processes Support GSD’s input to the work of the UN-Habitat’s Secretariat of Governing Bodies (SGB) and to intergovernmental meetings of UN-Habitat:
• Assist the preparations of and inputs to the Executive Board (EB) meetings, Ad hoc Working Group (AHWG) meetings, the Open-ended WG on Housing (OEWG-H), as relevant, UN Habitat Assembly (UNHA), and Midterm Review of the New Urban Agenda 2026 (MTR of NUA). Support GSD in the management of UN Development Account (UNDA)-funded project monitoring
• Contribute to the Front Office’s support to the work of the Director of the GSD Support substantive preparation for meetings of the Division Director:
•  Perform background research and document review for preparation of talking points and presentations of the Director and Front Office staff.
