    Humanitarian Coordination and Support Intern

    Responsibilities

    • The intern will contribute to ongoing work supporting the development, implementation and monitoring of programmes and projects addressing urban crisis preparedness, response, recovery and reconstruction, including in contexts of urban displacement and humanitarian emergencies.
    • This will involve contributing to analytical work and desk-based reviews of UN-Habitat’s portfolio in crisis-affected countries, with the objective of identifying good practices, lessons learned and opportunities to strengthen and scale interventions across regions and country programmes.
    • The intern will also support the preparation of substantive outputs related to the Section’s work, including drafting internal working documents, knowledge products, briefing notes, reports, correspondence and concept notes, as well as undertaking background research related to urban crises, urban migration and displacement.
    • Through this work, the intern will contribute to the documentation and dissemination of lessons and innovations emerging from country-level operations, helping to inform programme development, strategic discussions and institutional learning.
    •  In addition, the intern will support coordination and communication activities related to UN-Habitat’s engagement on urban crisis response and humanitarian affairs. This includes assisting in the preparation of communication and outreach materials aimed at internal and external audiences, as well as supporting the organization and follow-up of internal and external meetings. Such support may include preparation of background materials and agendas, note-taking, reporting and tracking follow-up actions.
    • The intern will also provide ad hoc organizational and operational support to the Section’s work, including in relation to flagship events and inter-agency coordination processes, as required.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),
    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
    • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • Preferred areas of study: Applicants should be studying, or have studied, a discipline relevant to the internship, such as urban studies, humanitarian or development studies, social or political sciences, international relations, public information, business administration, or a related field.
    • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

    Intern - Programme Support

    Responsibilities

    The intern will support the RPD Front Office in the following tasks:

    • Support divisional and corporate reporting requests, including consolidation and quality review of inputs from Regional and Country Offices
    • Assist in the oversight of regional and country portfolios, including tracking key activities, deliverables, and priorities and maintenance of relevant matrices and dashboards
    • Support coordination of RPD inputs to corporate processes and governing bodies, including preparation of briefing materials and timelines
    • Assist in ensuring coherence across RPD-HQ functions and alignment with other headquarters divisions
    • Facilitate structured information flows between headquarters and the field, including tracking requests, deadlines, and follow-up actions
    • Support data management, basic analysis, and data visualization, including the preparation or updating of dashboards, tables, and summaries
    • Contribute to cross-regional knowledge management and learning, including documentation of good practices and lessons learned
    • Support preparation of presentations, briefing notes, and background documents for RPD senior management
    • Perform other related duties as required by the supervisor

    Intern - Programme Review Committee Support

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the PRC Secretariat in their mandate to improve project quality and compliance, as well in administrative tasks and in setting up data banks to enable identifying trends, patterns and early warning.
    • Assist with cross-checks of data entry into the project information system
    • Assist in ensuring compliance of projects with PRC guidelines
    • Assist in database management and maintenance
    • Contribute to project data reconciliation exercises across branches and project offices
    • eeAssist in establishing an implementation monitoring system at UN-Habitat
    • Assist project teams to enhance the quality of logical frameworks and theory of changes for projects at entry
    • Assist in advising project staff regarding the PRC process
    • Respond to requests for information from UN-HABITAT branches and offices

    Intern - Project Development

    Responsibilities

    Project Development The intern will:

    • Support the delivery of ideation, feasibility analysis, and project preparation support to sustainable urban development infrastructure projects in the CIF Project Pipeline.
    • Engage with CIF Implementing Partners – global experts delivering project preparation support – to track, monitor and guide the project preparation process.
    • Support and facilitate project assessment, due diligence and bankability assessment processes of projects within the CIF Project Pipeline.
    • Assist in the identification and incorporation of ESG and SDG-oriented analysis and decision support methodologies within the CIF.
    • Assist in creating agendas, presentation materials, taking action notes and providing follow-up engagement, for internal UN-Habitat and external Partner meetings. Sustainable Finance
