    IB Teacher of English

    Overall Role Purpose

    Central to meeting the mission, is the curriculum. The IB Educator will form part of the faculty who will themselves aspire for professional proficiency, in order to inspire and motivate the school community to develop lifelong learners. Of particular interest, will be to plan and deliver effective lessons, assess the students’ learning while meeting the needs of each and every child taking into account the overarching principles and values enshrined in both the school’s and the International Baccalaureate’s educational philosophies.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Planning and Delivery
      1. To prepare and deliver high quality lessons in line with the IB (International Baccalaureate) and school’s vision and mission.
      2. To collaboratively develop unit and lesson plans for the IB curriculum
      3. To ensure students acquire excellent knowledge and skills so that they make progress, achieve their targets and are prepared for the next stage of their careers
      4. Produce documents such as Unit plans, Records of Work, Course outlines, class analysis etc
      5. Differentiate lessons in order to match learners’ needs
      6. Deliver lessons that incorporate IT, active learning strategies and assessment for, as, and of learning
      7. Set meaningful home learning, mostly using the FLIPPED learning approach
      8. Contribute and participate in intervention programmes
    2. Assessment
      1. Assess work using a range of assessment techniques
      2. Develop assessments in line with IB programme expectations
      3. Provide effective verbal and written feedback to learners in good time
      4. Contribute to setting and moderating formative and summative assessments in line with IB expectations
      5. Analyse learners’ progress to inform future teaching and intervention
      6. Produce academic progress reports
      7. Administer examinations effectively
    3. Classroom management
      1. Manage teaching time through punctual and consistent attendance and observance of school timetable
      2. Manage students’ behaviour in the classroom, on school premises and on trips
      3. Utilize resources efficiently to enable effective outcomes
      4. Use Academy Learning management system such as ManageBac effectively
      5. Develop and maintain a stimulating teaching environment.
    4. Other professional responsibilities
      1. Undertake pastoral duties, including that of a homeroom tutor so students are adequately supported through their school journey
      2. Participate in, organise and guide co-curricular and life skills activities
      3. Support the core of individual IB Programmes such as CAS, SL, SA, PP, EE, RP, TOK, PPS, and LD.
      4. Actively contribute to department engagements and pastoral responsibilities
      5. Take ownership of own professional development and participate in CPD provided by the Academy
      6. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships and relevant liaison and communication with staff and other stakeholders
      7. Attend to duties assigned
      8. To undertake any other additional tasks as may be reasonably required by the Head of Department, Programme Coordinators, Head of IB Programmes and Director of Studies.
      9. Contribute to the development of whole school culture
      10. Set objectives in line with the school’s appraisal system
    5. Maintain a vibrant and rich professional portfolio tracking individual progress

    Academic Qualifications and experience

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education or equivalent, Master’s degree in Education is an added advantage.
    2. At least 4 years in similar role at an IB World School
    3. MUST be registered or eligible for registration with Teachers Service Commission
    4. Must have a proven track record of academic excellence in the same role
    5. Must have at least CAT 1 IB professional Development workshop certification in a similar role

    Alumni and Networking Coordinator

    About the Uongozi Centre

    The Uongozi Centre is a unique programme at the M-PESA Foundation Academy that aims to enhance the leadership potential, develop skills in independent thinking as well as assist our learners to incubate business ideas and community projects. The Centre also seeks to support the transition of secondary school scholars into university and other tertiary institutions.

    The diversity represented by the Uongozi Centre scholars, faculty and staff contributes to the Centre’s strong sense of open dialogue and engagement with ideas and issues.     The Uongozi Centre is seeking to recruit dynamic and visionary individual with exceptional skills, who is already experienced in communication, administration and coordination of various programs to take responsibility as Alumni and Networking Coordinator.

    Overall Role Purpose

    Coordinate alumni network programs

    Key Responsibilities

    1. To maintain the database of alumni information, including personal contact details and study/employment information, in line with the Data Protection Act
    2. Create and update the MFA alumni work placement program
    3. Lead innovation ensuring that projects are nimble and responsive to changing environment / needs
    4. Fostering good relationships with current and prospective stakeholders, professional bodies and other partners to make sure that there is synergy in execution and desired   outcomes of our objectives.
    5. Promote UC alumni networks and services via online social networking sites such as the school’s own site, LinkedIn and Facebook, and to develop new ways of leveraging     these methods of engagement
    6. Maintain and update content within the alumni pages of the UC website, including service, event and news updates and contribution to the creation and updating of alumni  profiles
    7. Liaise with student societies in MFA and alumni to encourage further student-alumni interaction and engagement
    8. To respond to requests and queries from UC alumni relating to alumni services and activities.
    9. Research and advise on relevant trainings and webinars for the alumni

    Person’s Specifications

    1. Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Administration, Education or equivalent
    2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position
    3. Able to work effectively in both small and ambiguous environments
    4. Experience with marketing automation systems a big plus

    Careers and Internship Counsellor

    Job Ref : UC/Careers/2022

    Line Manage : Head of University Admissions    

    Duration  : 1 year contract  (Renewable based on performance and need)

    Overall Role Purpose

    Offer exceptional career and internship guidance aligned to IB Curricular.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Guide students through subject choices within MYP.
    2. Help students to select either IBCP or IBDP after MYP completion. Guide students through and help them make subject choices within IBCP and IBDP.
    3. Initial point of referral for academic and study issues.
    4. Delivery of study skills program alongside Faculty staff.
    5. Delivery of careers education program across all student year groups and curricula.
    6. Assisting students to prepare for, select, and get into tertiary education programs in line with their career aspirations. Making students aware of the benefits of specific courses and universities available globally that meet   their aspirations and abilities.
    7. With the Head of University Admissions, guide students through the application process for Universities in N. America, Europe, Australia, South Africa and elsewhere globally. This will include reading through student’s transcripts prior to submission.
    8. With the Head of University Admissions, advise students on scholarship opportunities.
    9. Preparing students for ACTs and SATs for possible applications to US universities, i.e. with students at Y10 level onwards.
    10. Helping students choose courses and extracurricular activities that will help them get into their chosen career paths after graduation.
    11. Staying current with university and college admission processes and requirements, tertiary level programs and developments in education and financial aid.
    12. Assisting to organise University Fairs and careers events at the Academy and represent the same at other college fairs and other promotional opportunities.
    13. Conducting interviews, reviewing application materials, and assisting in the decision-making process of students.
    14. With the Head of University Admissions, advising parents on the transition process from the Academy.
    15. Maintaining accurate and current knowledge of educational legislation, trends, developments, and resources.
    16. Keeping clear records of students seen by the counsellors while maintaining confidentiality
    17. Preparing and sharing periodic reports with the line manager and where necessary with other relevant stakeholders e.g. the Director of Studies, Head of School
    18. • Consult with employers regarding optimal marketing strategies to connect students with internships and jobs
    19. • Coordinate and participate in career fairs
    20. Act as a liaison between the student, educational institution and the internship or placement providers
    21. Provide students with student employment information, paperwork and authorization
    22. Provide students with guidance and information regarding career research, options and decision making, goal setting, and job searching
    23. Build partnerships with organizations that can provide internships for students

    Person’s Specifications

    1. Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent
    2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a career counsellor
    3. Experience as IB career counsellor will be added advantage
    4. Able to work effectively in both small ambiguous environments

    Key competencies

    1. Excellent communication skills
    2. Good presentation skills
    3. Ability to work with young adults
    4. Excellent networking skills
    5. Awareness of current career trends
