    Communications & Editorial Writer

    About the Role 

    • The Communications & Editorial Writer supports the development of clear, credible, and compelling written content that advances Shamiri’s institutional voice and the thought leadership of its senior leaders. The role translates complex ideas, research, and strategy into accessible written outputs for diverse audiences.  
    • As Shamiri’s influence grows, the demand for high-quality written content increases across research dissemination, leadership thought leadership, fundraising, policy engagement, and public communication. Senior leaders generate ideas and direction but require structured writing support to turn these into polished, publishable outputs.

    Roles and responsibilities 

    Thought Leadership Writing Support  

    • Support senior leaders (e.g., CEO, CGSO, senior researchers) in developing written thought leadership content 
    • Draft, edit, and refine content, including op-eds and articles, blog posts and essays, speeches and remarks, LinkedIn posts and long-form threads, and press releases and media-related content
    • Translate verbal ideas, notes, or outlines into polished written pieces 
    • Ensure writing reflects the leader’s voice while aligning with organizational messaging 

     Research & Evidence Translation  

    • Work closely with Research & Learning to translate research findings into accessible written formats 
    • Draft research summaries, policy briefs, blog posts, and explainers
    • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and appropriate framing of evidence 
    • Adapt technical content for non-technical audiences 

    Organizational & Strategic Writing  

    • Support the writing of internal and external materials, including strategy summaries, concept notes, donor briefs, and organizational updates
    • Assist in drafting materials for Board engagement and high-level stakeholders 
    • Edit and proofread leadership-facing documents for clarity and tone 

    Editorial Coordination & Workflow  

    • Maintain a pipeline of writing projects with clear timelines and owners 
    • Coordinate with Brand & Social Media Manager to align written content with visual outputs 
    • Ensure version control and documentation of drafts and final pieces 
    • Incorporate feedback efficiently and accurately 

    Quality Control & Voice Consistency  

    • Ensure consistency in tone, language, and narrative across written outputs 
    • Apply editorial standards and fact-checking practices 
    • Flag inconsistencies or risks in public-facing content 

    Ownership of Outputs & Accountability  

    The Communications and Editorial Writer is directly accountable for:  

    • Drafting and editing written thought leadership content  
    • Research summaries and accessible written outputs  
    • Written materials supporting leadership, fundraising, and partnerships  
    • Timely delivery of drafts and revisions  
    • Maintaining clarity, accuracy, and coherence in assigned outputs 

    Requirements

    Qualifications 

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public policy, social sciences, or related field 
    • 1–3+ years of experience in writing, communications, research support, or editorial roles 
    • Strong writing portfolio demonstrating clarity and range 
    • Experience in social impact, research, policy, or nonprofit settings preferred

    Content Production Associate

    About the Role

    • The Content Production Associate produces the video and graphic content that brings Shamiri's work to life across its social and digital platforms. The role owns day-to-day content production, from capturing original footage to delivering finished, publish-ready video and visual assets, keeping Shamiri's presence consistent, high-quality, and on-brand. 
    • Shamiri's audiences increasingly meet the organization through video and visual content. A strong and consistent presence across platforms depends on steady production of high-quality, social-first content, from short-form video to graphics. This role builds in-house capacity to produce quickly and at a high standard, so that Shamiri's story is told visually, accurately, and on-brand across every channel.
    • By translating Shamiri's work into accessible and engaging video and visual content, this role shapes how audiences understand and connect with the organization. A reliable, high-quality content presence builds the visibility, trust, and engagement that enable Shamiri to grow its influence and reach.

    Roles and responsibilities

    Video Content Production

    • Own day-to-day production of short-form video for Shamiri's social and digital platforms
    • Shoot and capture original footage on location and at Shamiri events, including the Summit, The Gathering, and community events
    • Operate cameras, mobile devices, and basic recording equipment
    • Edit and assemble footage into finished, platform-ready video
    • Re-cut and repurpose existing footage into new outputs
    • Add captions, simple motion graphics, and sound
    • Adapt and resize video across platforms and formats

    Graphic Content Production

    • Produce graphics and carousels for social media, presentations, and reports
    • Apply Shamiri's brand identity and templates consistently
    • Build and adapt visual assets across platforms and formats
    • Support the design of slide decks and visual materials

     Brand and Quality

    • Ensure all outputs are accurate, on-brand, and aligned with Shamiri's visual identity
    • Maintain a consistent look and feel across platforms
    • Bring a strong visual eye to everyday content, not just templated work

     Asset Management and Workflow

    • Maintain organized libraries of video and graphic assets
    • Track and file produced content for reuse
    • Manage production schedules to keep content flowing reliably
    • Keep clear records of produced work

    Collaboration and Coordination

    • Conduct Work with the Multimedia & Content Production Lead on larger and more complex productions
    • Coordinate with the Brand and Social Media Manager to align content with platform priorities
    • Partner with teams across Shamiri to source stories, footage, and information

    Ownership of Outputs & Accountability

    The Content Production Associate owns:

    • Day-to-day short-form video production
    • Original footage captured from Shamiri's work and events
    • Graphics, carousels, and template-based visual assets
    • Platform-specific adaptations of content
    • Organized asset libraries and production records

    Requirements

    Key competencies

    • Strong video editing and graphic production skills
    • Camera and mobile shooting skills, including framing, lighting, and sound
    • Familiarity with short-form video across major social platforms
    • Ability to apply a brand identity and visual system consistently
    • Strong visual storytelling instinct
    • High attention to detail and accuracy
    • Strong organization and time management
    • Ability to manage several outputs at once and deliver on schedule
    • Collaborative and self-directed

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in design, multimedia, communications, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
    • 2 to 3 years of experience in content production, video editing, or graphic design
    • Portfolio demonstrating original video capture, editing, and graphic production
    • Proficiency in Figma, Canva and CapCut required
    • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator, is a plus
    • Experience producing content for social platforms
    • Experience in social impact, research, or mission-driven environments preferred
