    Chef

    Duties and Responsibilities shall include but not limited to

    • Plans meal and snack menus in accordance with patients’ medical conditions which meet the nutritional needs of the patients and provide food variety and appeal as well as reflecting the ethnic diversity of patients at the hospital.
    • Consults with the Deputy Admin and Clinical Service Manager regarding menu plans; posts menu plans two weeks in advance and notes any changes daily; cultural dietary food needs and plans and provides acceptable alternatives.
    • Order for all food and kitchen household supplies within budget guidelines and economically; monitor food expenditures; and ensure what is supplied are of the right quantity and quality.
    • The chefs will receive goods together with the admin, procurement officer and account for verification of order received.
    • Maintains food and kitchen household supplies by receiving and storing deliveries in hygienic and organized conditions and monitoring stock; rotates food stock to ensure quality; keeps accurate stock control for record-keeping purposes. It will be the responsibility of the chef to ensure that proper stock of utilities is in their custody and ensure that timely requisition of stock is done through the administrator.
    • Provides meals and snacks daily by preparing food for immediate or future serving in compliance with health regulations; and serving meals to patients when required. Morning tea will be served at 7.30, mid-morning tea will be served at 10am, lunch will be served at 1.00pm, tea will be served at 4.00pm and food will be served at 6pm each day without fail.
    • Maintains hygiene standards as defined under the Food Premises Act; keeps kitchen, cupboard, kitchen equipment and food storage areas clean and organized by cleaning pots, counters, equipment and dishes; maintaining equipment and arranging for servicing of appliances when needed.
    • Provides food and beverages for patients receiving day care services by preparing food and delivering it to the client.
    • Recommends budget priorities for kitchen equipment purchases through the administrator.
    • Plans and caters food services for Staff, board and executive meetings and any other agency functions or special events. Tuesday staff meeting tea will be provided for staff and 10am tea will be served on time and for every employee on duty.
    • It is the responsibility of the chef to collect plates, cups, spoons, thermos after 30 minutes of food service and ensure the equipment is soaked in hot water jik (disinfectant for utensils) for 15 minutes before washing.

    Cashiers

    Job Details

    No of Positions: 2

    Duties and Responsibilities shall include but not limited to

    • Review of patient information on the system: it is the responsibility of the cashier to ensure that clients who want to pay for service offered, their information is correctly captured into the hospital system.
    • Cash paying clients: the cashier will inform the client of the total amount due for payment, accept the cash and issue the client with a receipt.
    • Corporate clients: the cashier will run smart, and ensure all details are captured and deductions made to relevant cards.
    • Receive co-pay for various clients and issue a receipt
    • It is the responsibility of the cashier to ensure that pre-authorizations that have been approved and claimed online have been confirmed and forwarded to the accounts department for dispatch. The Cashier will ensure that every detail is captured and all necessary documents attached before forwarding to the accounts department.
    • Bills: it is the responsibility of the cashier to ensure bills due for printing are free of error and forward the bill to the accounts department for confirmation then forward the signed bill to the nursing station for the patient to sign.
    • Bills for insurance companies will be sent to the respective insurances once the bill has been signed by the client and the accounts department together with a discharge summary.
    • Ensure communication is made to insurance companies for pre-authorization and discharge of patients, immediately you are in receipt of either an inpatient insurance covered clients preauthorization or bill and a discharge summary.
    • It is the responsibility of the cashier to keep checking the hospital email to track responses from insurance companies on preauthorization sent and keep the client informed.
    • NHIF: it is the responsibility of the cashier to ensure that NHIF cards are verified before a client is given service.
    • Daily summary report: the Cashier will prepare a summary report on the Cash received and corporate clients and forward the report to the Accounts department.
    • It is the responsibility of the Cashier to pay Doctors and consultation, review and doctors fee once payment has been received or forward the payment to the Accountant.
    • The cashier will do a summary report on doctors who have received payment and those that are still pending.

    Job Requirements

    • Diploma in Business Management or Business Administration.
    • At least CPA section 1
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
    • Ability to analyze and evaluate data critically.
    • Ability to prepare and keep budgets.
    • Computer literate.

    Laundry Attendant

    No of Positions: 2

    General Description: Reporting to the House Keeping Supervisor, the Laundry Attendant job exists to provide laundry services including operating washing or dry-cleaning machines to clean, dry, press and fold cloth-ware at the Hospital.

    Duties and Responsibilities shall include but not limited to

    • Prepare work-plans and schedules, allocate work to laundry staff and set laundry production
    • Receive or collect used up linen for cleaning and record or classify it according to its sources from different wards and units of the hospital.
    • Sort and classify and mark or tag dirty linen according to its source in the hospital, type, color and maintenance specifications for laundering in the hospital.
    • Determine spotting procedures and proper solvents, detergents and other cleaning materials based on fabric and stain types in the laundry unit of the hospital.
    • Pre-soak, sterilize, scrub, spot-clean, and dry contaminated or stained articles, using neutralizer solutions and portable machines in the laundry unit of the hospital.
    • Spray steam, water, or air over spots to flush out chemicals, dry material, raise naps, or brighten colors of garments in the laundry unit of the hospital.
    • Load dry-cleanable garments into washers or dry-cleaning machines, add detergents and other washing materials and start the washing process in the laundry unit of the hospital.
    • Use other cleaning procedures to clean and dry non-dry-cleanable linen in the laundry unit of the hospital.
    • Operate machines that comb, dry and polish furs, clean, sterilize and fluff feathers and blankets, or roll and package towels in the laundry unit of the hospital.
    • Remove items from washers or dry-cleaning machines and dry them on cloth lines to reduce excessive moisture in the laundry unit of the hospital.
    • Collect cleaned and dried up linen, sort, press and pack according to its source and type, from different wards and units in the hospital.
    • Perform other special or peculiar garment maintenance or garment care according to need or manufacturers’ specifications in the laundry unit of the hospital.
    • Liaise with the tailors and dressmakers to repair and mend torn or replace missing parts of garments during and after laundering in the laundry unit of the hospital.

    Job Requirements

    • Certificate in Housekeeping and Laundry services.
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in a busy environment.

    Health Records Officer

    General Description: Keeping and maintaining of all health records for clients.

    Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Protect the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
    • Process patient admission and discharge documents.
    • Review records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulations.
    • Compile and maintain patient’s medical records to document condition and treatment and to provide data for research or cost control and care improvement efforts.

    • Prepare statistical reports, narrative report and graphic presentations of information such as tumor registry data for use by hospital staff, researchers, and other users.

    • Compile medical care and census data for statistical reports on diseases treated, surgery performed, and use of hospital beds.
    • Develop in-service educational materials/ medical library.

    Clinical Officer

    General Description: Attending to clients both on clinical matters like diagnosis amongst others

    Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Attend to the outpatients in the O.P Department, Wards and Casualty as the case may be and prescribe necessary medicines as available in stock and the required investigations.
    • Whenever necessary, with the approval of the Director of Clinical Services, carry out investigations and prescribe non-stock drugs.

    • Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
    • Communicate effectively with patients and clients.
    • Ensure that duties and functions are undertaken in a manner that prioritizes the safety and well-being of patients.
    • Represent the department /profession/team at meetings and conferences as appropriate.
    • Seek advice and assistance from the consultant/clinical director/employer with any assigned cases or issues that prove to be beyond the scope and professional competence in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance.

    Patient Attendants

    General Description: To provide comprehensive technical Nursing services in the clinics and wards.

    Duties and Responsibilities shall include but not limited to

    • Assist in delivery of the following services as allocated by a Registered Nurse; Showering, bathing and sponging, Repositioning, pressure area and skin care, Hair shaving and nail care, Mouth care, Eye and ear care
    • Change and make up occupied and unoccupied beds.
    • Assist in collection and record of clinical data as allocated by a Registered Nurse
    • Promote and maintain a clean, comfortable and safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
    • Ongoing cleaning of clinical equipment and working surfaces (trolleys, stretchers, wheel chairs), preparing treatment/procedure/delivery rooms prior to use.
    • Maintain inventory of equipment such as ripple mattress, wheel chairs, stretchers and stock take of toiletries, linen and other items used by the patient.
    • Report all observations and concerns about the patient to a Registered Nurse
    • Document all patient responses to direct care/assistance given in the Patient Assistants Care Plans and progress notes.
    • Accompany patients who have been discharged or referred out of the facility
    • Assist in emergencies
    • Assist in administrative duties such as photocopying ward forms.
    • Provide assistance to Medical and Nursing staff

    Job Requirements

    • A Certificate in Nurse Aid.
    • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a busy environment.

    Receptionist

    General Description

    • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or health care professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
    • Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

    Duties and Responsibilities shall include but not limited to

    • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the facility.
    • Acknowledge the patient’s arrival at the desk within 2-3 minutes of arriving.
    • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make follow-up appointments.
    • Be aware of your surroundings and of patients in the waiting room: be in a position where you are able to note which client has not been served and direct them to the offices they need to visit.
    • Be aware of which doctors and nurses are currently on duty and whether they have arrived. If the doctor has not arrived, call him/her and inform they are on duty and clients are waiting for them
    • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Phone must be answered within 6 rings and no more. Take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery. Be polite and helpful at all times. If the patient’s behavior becomes unacceptably abusive refer the call to your supervisor. Don’t ever shout or respond in a rude manner to the patient.
    • Advice patients of relevant charges for relevant medical services, show direction to the next station that the client would wish to be served.
    • Ensure that all patients’ information is registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately.
    • It is the responsibility of the receptionist to ensure that clients on the Outpatient register are transferred to the Inpatient register before close of business each day.
    • It is the responsibility of the receptionist to ensure that preauthorization is filled and ensure communication is made to insurance companies for pre-authorization and discharge of patients, immediately you are in receipt of either an inpatient insurance covered clients preauthorization or a discharge summary.

    Chief Nursing Officer

    • Plans and recommends to Administration new facilities or equipment, or modification thereto, needed to provide patient care.
    • Recommends, supports, and participates in education services, programs of education, and training, including orientation of new employees. Encourages and facilitates the professional advancement of employees by affording opportunities for further education and experience.
    • Recommends the modification, addition, or deletion of personnel policies to insure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions to provide patient care coverage. Approves the nurses’ Rota as forwarded by floor managers.
    • Initiates and participates in problem solving, policy forming conferences for Nursing/Patient Care Services. Maintains close coordination with all departments to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.
    • Ensures that cordial professional relationships are maintained with patients, their families and friends.
    • Interprets the goals of the Nursing/Patient Care Services areas to the community by maintaining harmonious and effective relationships with the education system, volunteer groups, agencies, and the community.

    Job Requirements

    • At least BSc. Nursing degree; MSc. Nursing an added advantage
    • 2 Years of relevant nursing management experience.
    • Demonstrated intention to advance professionally.

    Laboratory Technicians

    No of Positions: 3

    General Description: Reporting to the Hospital Administrator, the successful candidate will help in running the laboratory on a daily basis.

    Duties and Responsibilities shall include but not limited to:

    • Collect blood samples from patients.
    • Practice proper patient identification, especially when working on hospital floors.
    • Label vials with patient names and dates.
    • Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient.
    • Centrifuge blood samples, depending on if this is allowed in the state you are working in.
    • Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status.
    • Machines: it is the responsibility of the Lab Tech to run Quality control for all machines and reagents before any tests have been done to ensure validity and correctness of results.
    • It is the responsibility of the Lab Tech to ensure confidentiality of all patients’ results at all times. The responsible lab tech will be held liable in cases of patients test results leaked to third parties.

    Job Requirements

    • A degree/diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences
    • Registration and Licensed by K.M.L.T.T.B
    • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
    • Ability to analyze and evaluate data critically.
    • Ability to prepare and keep budgets.
    • MUST be Computer literate.
