Responsibilities

1. Collection of geographical information:

• capturing the location of ‘assets’ such as water sources, pump houses, pipelines, storage tanks, offices  and so on using GPS tools in the field for Tavevo Water and Sewerage Company
• Desk-based data capture (digitising) to convert paper maps to GIS datasets water pipelines from original maps and online databases.

1. Storage, analysis and presentation of geographical information:

• creating and maintaining the structures necessary for GIS data storage;
• developing the tools for loading/transferring GIS data between different systems;

1. Updating and incorporating GIS data with other sources to supplement usefulness

• population data mining and cross checking with relevant authorities
• liaising with county government to collect water related data
• working with partner organisations to collect water related data

1. Presentation of GIS data for management decisions

• manipulation, analysis and presentation of geographical information to meet specified scenarios and design aid
• developing presentations on GIS data and tools on corporate websites;
• using tools to join together different GIS datasets and create new information or investigate patterns,

1. Any other assignment given by the supervisor from time to time

Qualifications

1. Minimum of Diploma in GIS, Geomatic/Geospacial engineering, or related course
2. Certificate holder with a minimum of 4 years’ experience
3. Work experience more than 1 year in a busy GIS environment/Project
4. Speciality training with the use of GIS software-commercial or open source is an added advantage

General Purpose

Development and maintenance of information systems and programs to support strategic goals and operations of the company. Planning and integrating growth of ICT functions and services.

KEY TASKS

1. Help the company achieve its strategic objectives using ICT.
2. Design appropriate network and integrate various systems of the company
3. Design and regularly review a plan for the computerization of company process.
4. Ensure the hardware and software systems of the company are properly maintained.
5. Design safeguards to secure security of data stored and processed through the company’s information system
6. Ensure availability of information back-up facilities.
7. Develop training programs for users of computerized information system to acquire skills in their respective programs
8. Liaise with other departments on the development and maintenance of software systems
9. Develop appropriate policies and procedures for managing the company’s information systems, networks and hardware resources
10. Manage technical and customer support team.
11. Ensure provision of reliable and consistent internet connectivity in all zonal offices
12. Website and email management

QUALIFICATION

• Minimum Diploma in Computer Science or related field.
• 2 years’ working experience in a busy environment.
• Membership to a professional body.
