    Research Officer - Monitoring & Evaluation of Community and Public Engagement

    REPORTS TO:

    • Head of Engagement

    DIRECTLY SUPERVISES:

    • ARO's
    • Senior Field Workers
    • Data Clerks
    • Interns (as assigned)

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop a Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for the KWTRP Community and Public Engagement programme of work, drawing on relevant M&E theories and frameworks.
    • Leading in revising and amending the monitoring and evaluation strategy and ensure data informs implementation of engagement activities.
    • Support the department in developing of appropriate evaluation designs, models, data collection tools and analysis frameworks.
    • Carry out monitoring and evaluation of the entire community and public engagement programme, analyse the data across time and contexts, and disseminate widely through reports, presentations, and publications.
    • Develop and maintain appropriate databases for Community and Public Engagement data.
    • Lead the development of M&E proposals and management M&E related grants.
    • Participate in annual review and planning meetings for engagement activities.
    • Support Health Systems and Research Ethics (HSRE) Department and the Community Liaison Group (CLG) personnel in any other activities related to M&E and community/public engagement.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Essential

    • Master’s Degree in Development, Social Science, Project Management, Public Health, or any related field; with a strong focus on monitoring and evaluation
    • Bachelors Degree in Social Science, Public Health or any related field.
    • At least 3 years of experience in designing and implementing Programme-level monitoring and evaluation strategy, systems, and activities for complex programs/interventions in developing countries
    • Good knowledge of M&E conceptual and theoretical frameworks.
    • Experience of writing reports or publishing outputs from M&E activities
    • Experience in using mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative data), especially in relation to M&E.
    • A good understanding of health research and research ethics.

    Statistician

    JOB PURPOSE :

    To provide mathematical and statistical modelling support for ongoing studies in the Epidemiology and Demography Department.

    REPORTS TO:

    • EDD Modelling Team Lead
    • Principal Investigator on specific analyses

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Developing study analysis plans and providing input into study protocols.
    • Developing mathematical and statistical models and implementing these models through coding
    • Actively interrogating the data for discrepancies, errors, and missing data, in order to verify the accuracy and validity of the data. Reporting and liaising with trial investigators, data clerks, data managers and programmers on the quality of the data, and resolving any errors according to the study protocol.
    • Discussing and interpreting analysis results with colleagues and collaborators in the trial/study.
    • Ensuring deadlines and project milestones relating to data and analyses are met, coordinating with other members of staff and external collaborators as necessary
    • Supporting the production of summary tables and graphics for interim and final analyses
    • Preparing and depositing research data and documentation for curation and archiving

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or other related field
    • Three (3) years’ experience in data analysis, preferably in research setup
    • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with one or more statistical packages (including Stata, R or Julia) plus knowledge of any SQL-compliant DBMS (e.g. MS-Access, MS-SQL, MySQL Postgres, Oracle, DB2 etc)
    • Proficiency with statistical and data management procedures (data cleaning, manipulation, summarization, tables, listings, graphics, and inferential statistical output), and report generation.
    • Experience in a similar position, preferably in the health sciences.
