    Head Sustainability Strategy & Solutions

    Description

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

    Responsible for research and thought leadership in Sustainability for the Group;

    • Coordinating the development of the Sustainability strategy for the Group;
    • Leading the development of sustainable products and services to be offered by Group;
    • Providing advisory support on technical and emerging sustainability areas;
    • Alignment and collaboration with the Equity Group Foundation (EGF) on the twin engine business model, Group Strategy and delivery of the Social and Environment Transformation Pillar (Pillar 5) of the Africa Recovery and Resilience Plan;
    • Investor and key stakeholder relationship management focused on strategic partnerships, funding, group positioning and brand development, advocacy and policy;
    • Leading the sustainability aspects of funding initiatives with the Strategy, Finance and Treasury teams.
    • Representing Equity at technical subject matter meetings and other external events;
    • Contributing to the wider organizational ESG policy, procedures and tool development and implementation thereof.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree in Sustainability, Development Economics, Finance, or other comparable studies.
    • Commercial and client oriented, with an ability to persuade and influence a wide range of people.
    • Knowledge and experience with Financial Institutions, including supporting institutions in embedding Sustainability into their Strategy and the products and services offered
    • Over 10 years of relevant working experience in sustainability.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. French is considered a strong advantage.
    • Strong team skills, contributing to team success and to a constructive, positive, and collaborative work environment.
    • Ability to build productive lasting working relationships with clients and strategic partners.

    Group Head ESG Risk

    Description

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Thought leadership in ESG risk management for the Group;

    • Accountable for overall ESG Risk Management including ownership and implementation of an effective environmental and social management system (ESMS).
    • Ensuring the appropriate ESG standards and procedures are embedded within the business;
    • Responsible for appraising (in accordance with international good practice) and managing ESG Risks of the Group, as first line of defence, in accordance with the requirements of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and the Group risk appetite, framework and policies as defined;
    • Working with the subsidiary teams to identify the E&S risks of the Group’s portfolio, including its exposure to high-risk sectors and transactions, and to ensure appropriate mitigations actions are taken;
    • Negotiating (and compliance monitoring and modification) E&S covenants to be included in the legal documentation;
    • Representing Equity at technical subject matter meetings and industry events;
    • Participating in the dialogue with other Equity Stakeholders on topics related to the implementation of the Equity ESG Policies and procedures;
    • Contributing to the wider organizational ESG policy, procedures and tool development and implementation thereof.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Development Economics, Business, Anthropology, or other comparable sustainability studies.
    • In depth knowledge and experience in applying Good International Industry Practices related to E&S risk and impact management, including but not limited to the IFC Performance Standards, World Bank EHS Guidelines, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and ILO standards.
    • Knowledge and experience with Financial Institutions, including supporting institutions in embedding E&S/ESG risk management and the development and implementation of an ESMS is required.
    • Over 10 years of relevant working experience in environmental and social risk management.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. French is considered a strong advantage.
    • Strong team skills, contributing to team success and to a constructive, positive, and collaborative work environment.
    • Strong skills in planning, organizing, and prioritizing when working on several assignments at the same time and under pressure.
    • Ability to effectively strike the balance between facilitating new transactions and upholding E&S standards.
    • Ability to build productive lasting working relationships with clients and strategic partners.
    • Client oriented, with an ability to persuade and influence a wide range of people.
    • Risk aware and able to escalate key issues when necessary.
    • Ability to support and coach colleagues.

    Group Head ESG Governance & reporting

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Key integration and change management lead for the Group ESG department;

    • Responsible for managing the Governance, Assurance programs, Systems, Reporting and Capacity Building/Training requirements of the Group with respect to ESG;
    • Supporting the Group Director in preparation of Group Board Sustainability Committee reports, managing the responsibilities as secretary to the Committee and coordinator/lead for the Group Management Sustainability Committee;
    • Drive implementation of ESG frameworks, policies, procedures and processes across the Group.
    • Implement programs and systems to track and monitor ESG metrics, key performance indicators, and disclosures in Group reports.
    • Effective monitoring of ESG related credit approval conditions and covenants and ensuring timely reporting in relevant credit committees.
    • Coordinate engagements with various stakeholders including commercial, credit and risk management teams in resolution of ESG related issues as identified by DFIs, risk, compliance and audit.
    • Leading on all other ESG governance requirements as defined within the Group policies and procedures including the Enterprise Risk Management Framework;
    • Defining, agreeing and monitoring progress for the Group ESG Assurance Program;
    • Monitoring compliance with applicable laws and regulations; Group policies and procedures; and contractual obligations;
    • Identifying and managing the implementation of ESG systems required to manage the Group Strategy and Objectives;
    • Managing the delivery of the Group’s ESG Training and capacity building requirement;
    • Collating and preparing all internal ESG reporting deliverables as required for effective management and decision-making;
    • Leading on all external reporting and disclosure requirements as defined by regulations, contractual obligations and other key stakeholder management requirements;
    • Contributing to the wider organization policy, tools and systems development and implementation.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree in business related discipline
    • Knowledge and experience in applying Good International Industry Practices relating to Governance, Assurance, Reporting, Systems and Training
    • Over 10 years experience working in similar roles
    • Experience helping organisations enhance their systems, procedures, controls and reporting.
    • Previous experience banking sector critical
    • Broad understanding of sustainability matters in a financial institution
    • Strong skills in planning, organizing, and prioritizing when working on several assignments at the same time and under pressure.
    • Excellent analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Strong team skills, contributing to team success and to a constructive, positive, and collaborative work environment.
    • Able to collaborate cross-functionally
