    Intern - Research & Evidence

    Roles and responsibilities:

    • Assist to obtain necessary regulatory approvals not limited to ethical approval, research permits, and signed county commissioner/governor letters.
    • Support the submission of clinical trial pre-registration and protocol paper, where appropriate.
    • Support the development of research materials such as questionnaires and study protocols.
    • Assist with quantitative and/or qualitative data collection, including but not limited to focus group assessments.
    • Support training on various topics including data collection and fidelity rating.
    • Oversee and/or assist with questionnaire design, printing, and scanning.
    • Assist with data entry, cleaning, storage, and analysis.
    • Supporting the writing and publishing of manuscripts.
    • Contribute to achieving key performance indicators such as low rates of participant attrition.
    • Assist in organizing and/or presenting research findings to external stakeholders such as in meetings and research conferences.

    Senior Associate - Research & Evidence

    About the role:

    The Senior Associate will work closely with the Research Manager to independently coordinate and execute organizational research projects from initiation to conclusion. THis will involve getting ethical approvals for research, developing protocols for data collection, cleaning and analysis, and contributing to manuscript preparation and submission. They will also be expected to provide training, mentorship, and guidance to research interns. This role will be important for the organization to continue to be a leader in the mental health research space.

    Roles and responsibilities:

    • Complete clinical trial pre-registration and protocol paper submission, where appropriate.
    • Develop research materials such as questionnaires and study protocols.
    • Oversee quantitative and/or qualitative data collection, including but not limited to focus group assessments.
    • Collaborate with other teams to schedule and coordinate research activities; this includes mapping out participant’s locations and facilitating logistics.
    • Coordinate questionnaire design, printing, and scanning.
    • Coordinate data entry, cleaning, storage, and analysis.
    • Contribute to achieving key performance indicators such as low rates of participant attrition.
    • Assist in organizing and/or presenting research findings to external stakeholders such as in meetings and research conferences.
    • Respond to emails and other communication relating to research projects.
    • Participate in virtual and in-person staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
    • Monitor the progress of each research project and report to the Research Manager.
    • Provide training and supervision of research interns, including completion of quarterly performance appraisals and development plans.
    • Lead manuscript development and submission.
    • Source for additional avenues for communicating our findings, contributing to the wider organizational communication and behavior change strategy.

    Director of Government Relations

    About the role:

    As the Director of Government Relations, you will work hand-in-hand with the CEO and Chief of Staff, leading our government engagement efforts. You will play a pivotal role in developing and executing strategies aimed at establishing collaborative partnerships with governmental bodies and influencing mental health policymaking.

    How you will make a difference:

    Your work as the Director of Government Relations will contribute significantly to Shamiri's mission. You will secure agreements with the Ministries of Education and Health, propelling us towards our goal of reaching every public high school in the country. You will help position Shamiri as the leading organization in Kenya's mental health space by engaging the government in our work and influencing mental health policies. Overall, your role will be instrumental in ensuring Shamiri can deliver high-quality services to more schools and touch the lives of more youths.

    Roles and responsibilities:

    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key government officials, ministries, agencies, and relevant committees to ensure Shamiri’s work is a priority for the national mental health agenda.
    • Leverage relationships to secure a Memorandum of Understanding between Shamiri and the Ministry of Education, extending our reach and impact across every public high school in Kenya.
    • Develop and implement comprehensive government engagement strategies to influence mental health-related policies, legislation, and regulations at the national, regional, and local levels.
    • Monitor and analyze proposed legislative and regulatory changes that impact mental health services, and provide timely recommendations and responses to protect and advance Shamiri's objectives.
    • Identify opportunities within government education and health budgets to secure financial support for Shamiri's programs.
    • Work with the communications team to develop campaigns and initiatives that raise public awareness about mental health issues, targeting government-orientated audiences.
    • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure alignment between advocacy efforts, programmatic activities, and Shamiri's overall goals.
    • Maintain accurate records of government interactions, policy developments, and advocacy efforts, providing regular reports to the leadership team.

    Who we're looking for:

    • The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in government relations, with extensive existing relationships with government officials at relevant departments, and an exceptional ability to cultivate new relationships with other government stakeholders.

    Senior Associate - Recruitment (Service Delivery)

    The Senior Associate will work closely with the Director of Service Delivery to develop and deliver recruitment strategies aimed at ensuring a sustainable supply of caregivers for Shamiri's three tier caregiving model. This role is crucial to our organization's expanding footprint as we look to work in more schools in more counties in Kenya.

    Roles and responsibilities:

    • Lead the development and implementation of recruitment strategies for both hub and partnership-based models of implementation.
    • Spearhead recruitment processes, from drafting calls for applications, advertising, and sourcing decisions, to application processing and documentation.
    • Provide leadership and coordination to the application processing teams, ensuring fair and thorough candidate evaluations.
    • Advocate for recruitment systems that align with the organization's upscaling strategy.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Service Delivery to ensure a sufficient lay-provider pool for timely replenishment.
    • Present recruitment-based information and reports to internal and external stakeholders.

    About the role:

    Strategic communication:
