    Payroll & Taxes Manager

    About the Role:

    • The Global Payroll & Taxes Manager at One Acre Fund is responsible for delivering timely and accurate payroll for the entire organization every month. You will guide our payroll teams to maintain excellence across all aspects of payroll operations, including data accuracy, process efficiency, compliance, and development of a team of payroll professionals.
    • As the head of the payroll department, you will lead a team of three, and report to the Global Director of HR Shared Services.

    Responsibilities

    • Own monthly payroll:
      • You will take overall responsibility for ensuring that One Acre Fund submits payroll for all staff each month. Ensure the payroll process is accurate, efficient, and compliant with OAF’s policies.
    • Country coordination:
      • Lead the coordination and processing of payroll across our different country teams, working with country payroll leads to guide them.
    • Statutory Compliance and Knowledge Management:
      • Manage statutory processing and submissions in multiple countries; develop systems to automate submissions and record-keeping for all payroll information.
    • Leadership and Team Management:
      • Oversee and build the capacity of a team of payroll professionals. Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages continuous improvement and excellence in our payroll operations.
    • Strategic Direction and Change Management:
      • Define the future strategic direction of One Acre Fund’s Payroll operations, for example selecting and implementing new software solutions.

    Qualifications

    • Extensive experience in payroll coordination, tax compliance, and HR information systems in a multi-country context.
    • Knowledge of tax and labor laws across multiple countries.
    • Advanced understanding of payroll software and tax submission platforms.
    • Proficient in payroll software (e.g., Sage payroll packages) and proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets.
    • Proven people and project management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing team.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance, payroll, or HR information systems, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.

    Global HRBP (Compliance & Policies)

    About The Role:

    • As the Global HRBP (Compliance & Policies) at One Acre Fund, you will play a critical role in ensuring our HR practices align with the legal frameworks of our countries of operation across Sub-Saharan Africa. You will maintain the highest standards of HR legal compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
    • We ask that you have a deep understanding of employment laws in East, West, Central and Southern Africa, particularly in the context of statutory compliance, contracts, disciplinary procedures and restructure/redundancy procedures. You will make a significant impact in a purposeful, international environment, ensuring that One Acre Fund continues to operate with the highest standards of integrity and legal compliance.
    • You will report directly to the Director of Global HR Shared Services.

    Responsibilities:

    • High-quality and compliant HR procedures:
      • Ensure that key HR-related aspects such as health insurance, leave policies, conflict of interest, risk and compliance training and adherence to the code of conduct are of high quality and fully compliant with the laws of the countries where One Acre Fund operates.
    • Legal Compliance:
      • Ensure that all HR activities are compliant with the respective laws of countries where One Acre Fund operates. This includes staying updated on legal changes and advising on their implications.
    • HR Policy Development and Review:
      • Lead the creation and periodic review of HR policies, ensuring they are not only legally compliant but also reflect the best practices and ethos of One Acre Fund. This will involve collaborating with various stakeholders to develop policies that support the organization's mission while safeguarding against legal risks.
    • Contract Management:
      • Oversee the creation, review, and update of employment contracts, ensuring they meet legal requirements across different jurisdictions.
    • Cross-Country Collaboration:
      • Work closely with HR teams in various countries to ensure consistent application of legal best practices in HR operations.
    • Disciplinary Procedures:
      • Develop and maintain standardized procedures for disciplinary actions across our countries of operation, ensuring legal compliance to due process and fairness to staff.
    • Restructure/Redundancy Procedures:
      • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to roll out restructure programs and manage any redundancies in adherence to local labor law requirements, working closely with legal advisors as necessary.

    Qualifications

    • An HR professional certification - CHRP, SPHRi, SHRM.
    • At least 5 years of experience in HR compliance, in a multi-country context.
    • Familiarity with Sub-Saharan Africa's employment laws and international HR practices.
    • Excellent proficiency in English.

    Global Lead - Integrated Pest Management

    About The Role:

    • Your focus will be to develop programs and training content to maximize adoption of integrated pest management amongst smallholder farmers. You'll report to the Global Director of R&D, and work within the Global Impact team. This team combines agronomy, data science, qualitative research and SBC & social marketing skillsets to develop adoptable recommendations, and support country programs to effectively communicate and train farmers on them for maximum uptake.
    • You will develop evidence-based IPM extension, promoting approaches that are proven to reduce pest pressure and increase yields, through training and extension approaches that are informed by instructional design principles, adult learning and SBC theories. You will develop and test training, extension and decision-support tools using HCD methodology, then scale these and validate impact through measured improvements in farmer knowledge, attitude and adoption.

    Responsibilities: 

    • Research
      • Oversight over surveys to characterize farmers' pest challenges and adoption of IPM practices
      • Literature reviews, rapid evidence assessments, expert consultation etc. to identify impactful pest prevention and control technologies.
      • There may also be opportunities to work on innovation projects around pest diagnostics, threat forecasting and surveillance, and on-farm experimentation to evaluate novel pest management technologies
    • Extension
      • Develop IPM recommendations. Translate research-based IPM approaches and into simplified recommendations and protocols that empower smallholder farmers with limited resources to meaningfully reduce pest pressure and increase yields.
      • Test and improve scalable IPM training and decision-support tools through design workshops and piloting with extension workers and farmers
    • Strategy
      • Develop IPM extension / communications strategies that integrate print, audio, digital and in-person training and communication tools to maximize reach and cost-effectiveness.
      • Define indicators to monitor and evaluate the scale and quality of IPM strategy implementation (e.g. in terms of farmer uptake of IPM, pesticide usage), and generate recommendations for improvement.

    Qualifications

    • 3-5+ years' experience in agriculture training and extension service design and implementation, ideally working with farmers with low and mixed literacy and digital access.
    • Strong technical knowledge agronomy and IPM, ideally for IPM for maize, potato, legumes in particular
    • Research skills and experience with literature reviews, survey design and analysis. Experience managing on-farm trials a plus.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a range of audiences - from non-technical colleagues to external experts. Ability to understand complex technical concepts and translate into concise, accessible language
    • Strong project management skills
    • Experience driving projects towards results, working within a matrix management model.

    Global Supply Chain Capability Associate

    About The Role:

    • In this role, you offer and nurture unique expertise and tools to all value streams across the Supply Chain division to achieve and sustain operational excellence. You ensure that the required systems, processes and people capabilities are in place to support the delivery of the end- to-end Supply Chain objectives and KPIs. You will manage the Global Supply Chain Capability Specialist and report to the Global Supply Chain Capability Lead. You will work in our Nairobi office.

    Responsibilities: 

    • Develop and execute loss elimination strategy:
      • You will monitor monthly reconciliations across all countries, coaching teams to identify root causes of inventory variances and develop gap-closing plans.
      • You will establish and prioritize opportunities for loss identification and elimination through improvements in processes, systems, capabilities, and controls.
      • You will be a liaison with the Internal Audit team to ensure closure of supply chain findings, integrating continuous improvement into manuals, policies, and training for supply chain professionals
    • Develop and implement anti-fraud strategy for high-risk activities (procurement, reception, distribution, repackaging).
      • You will establish an anti-fraud checklist for high-risk activities and embed interventions in processes/systems, collaborating with SC Ops, System, & Innovation teams for implementation.
    • Develop and execute loss prevention strategy, scaled to program size for warehouses, PRO stores & POS outlets:
      • You will take ownership of the 5S checklist, to adapt to changing operational contexts and ensuring team accountability for performance.
      • You will Identify context- and cost-appropriate security measures and design/implement monthly or quarterly security audit procedures.
    • Oversee loss prevention special projects:
      • You will research and develop tech solutions for inventory protection during distributions, and design an Inventory Security & Controls starter kit for pilot programs.
      • You will develop trainings for shrink awareness and prevention in warehouses, PRO stores, and POS outlets.
    • You will develop, maintain, and improve training content (manuals, materials, interactive sessions), overseeing its rollout and adoption for the Global for our Sourcing Teams.
      • Travel around East Africa may to implement projects and monitor adherence to policies may be required.
    • You will lead academy-style training and nurture capability growth for SC professionals:
      • You will build and coach procurement, warehouse, and logistics professionals across operations.
      • You will lead and enhance group trainings for supply chain staff in academy-style formats.
      • You will establish capability networks and provide individual spot coaching for functional skills

    Qualifications

    Knowledge:

    • Bachelor's Degree related field. Business, operations supply chain.
    • Experience with SAP, ERP or related systems is preferred.

    Skills:

    • Project management experience. Experience in scoping, implementing, and close out scoping projects.
    • Humility. You combine leadership skills with patience and a humble approach to service.
    • Experience with risk analysis, contingency planning, or loss prevention. Experience in roles related to Audit. Logistic roles, risk, and compliance are preferred.
    • Proven experience to manage projects and communicate, both orally and in writing, technical and non-technical information to all organization levels.
