    Senior Manager - Strategy

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Head of Strategy. The Senior Manager, Strategy is a critical leadership role responsible for driving the development, execution, and monitoring of strategic initiatives aligned with the organization's long-term goals. This individual will leverage deep domain expertise in telecommunications, technology and digital transformation, strong analytical skills, and business acumen to frame problems, uncover insights, and guide transformational change. They will play a key role in ensuring the organization maintains a competitive edge by aligning strategy with market trends and company objectives.

    Responsibilities

    Strategy Development

    • Problem Framing: Define and structure complex business challenges to enable data-driven decision-making and actionable outcomes.
    • Expertise & Methodologies: Apply telco and technology domain knowledge and proven methodologies to inform strategy formulation and execution.
    • Hypothesis-Driven Problem Solving: Guide teams in employing structured approaches to identify solutions with measurable impact.
    • Insights Synthesis: Develop strategic recommendations by linking findings to broader organizational objectives and priorities.
    • Forecasting & Projections: Build reliable models and scenarios to support strategic planning and execution monitoring.
    • Market Context Analysis: Correlate internal findings with external market dynamics, providing actionable advice to maintain or achieve competitive advantage.
    • Opportunity Identification: Proactively identify opportunities for transformational change and capability building across commercial and corporate functions.
    • Advisory Leadership: Advise senior leaders on strategic options and lead high-impact initiatives to drive business growth and innovation.

    Mission Execution Monitoring

    • Market & Competitor Analysis: Continuously monitor market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to identify risks and opportunities relevant to the organization's mission.
    • Mission Refinement: Regularly assess and adjust mission priorities in response to evolving market conditions and strategic needs.
    • Metrics & KPIs: Define and track key performance indicators to evaluate the success of mission execution efforts.
    • Reporting & Updates: Lead the cadence of company-wide Mission Status Reviews, providing actionable insights and updates to senior leadership.
    • Strategy Execution Expertise: Demonstrate a deep understanding of best practices in strategy development and execution.
    • Data Analytics: Leverage business intelligence tools and platforms to generate insights, monitor performance, and inform decision-making related to mission execution.

    Key performance indicators

    • Timely Delivery of Strategic Plans: Percentage of strategic initiatives delivered on time and aligned with organizational goals.
    • Quality of Strategic Recommendations: Senior leadership satisfaction score on strategic recommendations provided. 
    • Impact of Strategies Implemented: Percentage of implemented strategies that achieve or exceed predefined business objectives. 
    • Market Competitiveness: Number of actionable insights provided annually that enhance competitive positioning. 
    • Market Trend Analysis: Frequency and quality of market/competitor analysis reports delivered. 
    • Competitive Risk Identification: Number of identified risks and opportunities successfully mitigated or capitalized on.

    Support Engineer- Financial Services IT

    Job Description

    • Reporting to the Integrations Lead Fintech - Financial Services IT, the position holder will be responsible for improving existing solutions, providing technical support, troubleshooting, and monitoring financial solutions applications to ensure 99.999% availability of the system.
    • Technical support duties include but not limited to architecture reviews and optimization, incident handling, detailed root cause analysis, problem management, configuration management, automation of routine tasks, documentation, and operational acceptance compliance.

    Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure data and/or application availability of the assigned systems and applications.
    • Participate in design, testing and implementation of new products, services, functionalities or upgrades.
    • Provide support for financial solutions which includes MPESA and integrations.
    • Perform Systems and Applications Monitoring.
    • Maintain knowledge base by documenting technical knowledge.
    • Collaborate with team members to improve the tools, systems and procedures.
    • Participate and provide input to the M-PESA roadmap to ensure timely delivery of relevant products to Safaricom Customers.
    • Work with the external and internal technical teams to ensure efficient resolution of all system issues.
    • Implement DevOps technologies and processes, e.g: containerization.
    • Liaise with all stakeholders to ensure new functionality, processes and systems are fully understood.
    • Transfer system knowledge to internal customers on new features and support processes.
    • Prepare and publish accurate and timely system performance reports.
    • Perform regular service improvements that align with 99.999% availability.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues on the assigned systems and apply a work around or a permanent solution to resolve ensuring the MTTR is met.
    • Properly escalate unresolved issues to appropriate internal or external teams and follow up to ensure they are satisfactorily closed.
    • Provide prompt and accurate feedback to stakeholders on assigned tasks.
    • Ensure all issues are logged in the service management tool and are properly prioritized and also accurately log resolution details in the ticket.
    • Develop and maintain applications using Spring Boot framework.
    • Design and implement scalable, high-performance applications.
    • Ensure applications are robust and reliable.
    • Write clean, maintainable code following best practices.
    • Participate in code reviews and provide technical guidance.

    Requirements:

    • A bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field as a minimum.
    • 2 years of work experience as an engineer in a telecommunications or financial services environment.
    • Expertise in system monitoring and alerting strategies and can draw on their experience to drive improvements in system monitoring with automation, third party tools and frameworks.
    • Working knowledge of databases (NoSQL and SQL databases).
    • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Software development skills in Java, python, Angular JS etc.
    • Knowledge in ITIL Service Operations processes and Agile methodology. Certification in Scrum fundamentals is an added advantage.
    • Working knowledge in dev ops and dev ops tools like Github.
    • Knowledge in mobile money systems, integrations or financial systems.
    • Must be able to work without supervision & meet tight deadlines/schedules.
    • Good presentation skills.
    • Proactive & self-motivated.
