    Senior Network Administrator

    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Reporting to the Lead, Infrastructure Technology, the Senior Network Administrator will play a critical role coordinating the design, installation and connectivity of network & security architectures to ensure the stable operation and growth potential of the Foundation’s IT infrastructure assets. Responsible for providing extensive technical expertise in all network/communications hardware, software, security, and operational components across multiple communications platforms. This role will also work externally facing with The Mastercard Foundation’s external partners and technology providers.

    WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

    • Design and implement best practice solutions for short and long-term strategic plans to make certain network capacity meets existing and future requirements.
    • Monitor and analyze network performance across the organization’s LANs, WANs and wireless deployments, ensuring the stable operation and efficient performance of company networks, including remote access and security perimeter.
    • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend for purchase networking hardware and software products.
    • Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis and resolution of complex network and security problems for a variety of end users and recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions, including off-site repairs.
    • Develop and implement policies, procedures and associated training for network resource administration and appropriate use along with establishing connectivity and uptime service level agreements.
    • Provide off-hour support on a rotation basis for the corporate network infrastructure (LAN/WAN/VoIP/Network Services/etc) and security.
    • Work closely with the Lead IT to implement proactive approaches to monitoring and reporting on network services that maximize uptime, reliability, visibility, and overall improvements to the user experience.
    • The Partner will have the opportunity to influence network and infrastructure decisions and be the voice of the end users within the technical meetings and will also serve as the touch point for staff for issues with local suppliers like Mobile Service Providers or hardware resellers.
    • Monitor IT services to ensure they are consistent, reliable, and securely delivered through active monitoring of error logs and user-reported issues.
    • Support and monitor local vendors contract and service levels provided to the Staff members. Ensure Staff are satisfied with local technology service providers.

    Who You Are

    • Bachelor’s degree or diploma and/or certificate in IT-related fields, or in another field but with deep technical knowledge of network administration or equivalent experience.
    • 5+ years’ relevant experience supporting network infrastructure and telecommunications technologies, including vendor management, legacy system transformations, and technology hardware evaluation and implementation.
    • Possesses a senior level of network and infrastructure expertise coupled with a high degree of business acumen to understand business strategy and initiatives and relate it to technology needs.
    • Experienced in networking and systems administration with exceptional analytic and troubleshooting skills for solving problems.
    • Previous experience analyzing KPIs that measure infrastructure capacity and performance is an asset.
    • Ability to manage vendors and ensure quality and SLA standards are being met.
    • Identify opportunities for efficiencies and cost reductions through new technology and/or the leveraging of technology across the organization.
    • Experience working with traditional on-premise and cloud networking & telecommunications technologies.
    • Advanced knowledge and certifications relating to LAN technologies and hardware including switching, routing, wireless and unified communications, ASA, and ISE; DNS/DHCP, SD-WAN and threat protection/prevention. Protocol analysis, and application performance management considered an asset.
    • Advanced knowledge of Fortinet solutions – Fortigate, Fortiswitch, Fortiwifi, Fortimanager, Fortiauthenticator and Fortimail.
    • Curious and passionate about how existing and emerging technologies and service providers can be utilized to improve existing user experience.
    • Excellent customer service skills, self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
    • Effective priority management skills with the ability to work well in a high-pressure environment.
    • Ability to translate complex technical terminology into a user friendly, understandable, non-intimidating format.

    • Ability and availability to provide extended hours and off-hour support.

    Program Lead, Digital Economy

    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Reporting to the Country Head Kenya, the Program Lead, Digital Economy will support design and implementation activities related to the Digital Economy space in Kenya. The job holder will work collaboratively with Country Program staff in the respective countries to integrate digital solutions in the Foundation’s Young Africa Works programs with the aim of enabling dignified and fulfilling work for young women and young people in general.  She/he will provide expertise and interact effectively with partner organizations and ecosystem stakeholders to advance the development and delivery of the Foundation’s country strategy.

    WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

    • Lead in designing of partnerships/program in the Digital area and related to and supporting all relevant economic sectors;
    • Diagnosing and contributing to expertise on digital economy enabling environment and policy to inform country strategy design, partnership development, and monitoring processes.
    • Collaborate with Program Leads / Partners to review proposals, develop strategic outcomes and program roadmaps.
    • Contribute to evolution in thinking and new approaches needed to get to scale.
    • Integrate impact considerations to ensure the needs of young women and young people in general are addressed within the program design.

    WHO YOU ARE

    • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in education, business, or a technology-related field.
    • At least 13 years of experience working with the private and non-profit sectors, particularly in a role relating to digital technology and skills development in Africa.
    • Experience in a commercial function in at least one relevant digital technology industry focused on low income customers – e.g. product management, strategy, design.
    • Familiarity with relevant technologies and sectors with potential for emerging markets - software solutions, app or platform providers, venture capital, incubators, digital financial services providers, e-government, data analytics, etc.
    • Experience working with the non-profit or public sectors, particularly in a role relating to digital technology.
    • Experience with entrepreneurship or intrapreneurship.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Ugandan & African social, economic and political contexts.
    • Demonstrates strong analytical skills, the ability to think strategically and contribute as a thought partner in the Foundation’s strategy development.
    • Demonstrates strong budgeting skills with the ability to manage a large portfolio of assets.
    • Command of quantitative and qualitative business analytics.

    Program Lead Gender

    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Reporting to the Country Head Kenya, the Program Lead Gender primary role will be to builds impactful country programs by setting direction and engaging partners throughout program design and implementation and focused on the Foundation’s commitment to enable dignified and fulfilling work for young women. The job holder is responsible for facilitating understanding of gender dynamics and how they influence various opportunities and supporting programmatic interventions that are responsive to the realities at the country level.

    WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

    • Integrate gender considerations across the Country Strategy, program cycle, and to advance the Foundation’s overall gender outcomes in collaboration with the Country Head, technical experts and program teams including Impact and Measurement, Thematic Research and Communication teams.
    • Engage and solicit input from young people, especially young women and collaborating with colleagues to ensure inclusion of perspectives of young women and men, in portfolio and program design.
    • Collaborate with Programs and Design and Learning colleagues co-design programs and embed designs and adequate resources and budget to ensure implementation of gender approaches and mechanisms in their programmes.
    • Develop and/or adapt gender analysis tools for the Foundation and provide technical and strategic guidance for applying them to various projects/programmes at the country level.
    • Lead a needs assessment and design of a detailed support plan on gender mainstreaming for employees and partners at Country level, through training and coaching programs, resource development, identifying support networks, and so on.
    • Support implementing partners to build gender outreach mechanisms, ensuring young women and men remain at the from and center of implementation efforts.
    • Initiate relationships with local organizations working on women and various segments of young people and create opportunities (events, platforms) to listen to them and consider their input towards enhancing reach and impact for underserved young women and men in Kenya.
    • Build and maintain relationships with leaders in the field of gender equality, particularly in and identify and help develop strategic partnerships in Kenya and in the Region.
    • Oversee research and evaluation partners to ensure that they are able to stimulate relevant, rigorous, and respective approaches to deepening the Foundation’s approach to gender equality in the Country Programme.
    • Identify and contribute to relevant learning networks and/or communities of practice and represent the Foundation at gender related events and coordination mechanisms in the country.
    • Identify, document, and mobilize gender-related focused insight and learning from the Foundation’s current and future portfolio of work in the Country in the support of the Country Head, technical experts and program teams including Impact and Measurement, Thematic Research and Communication teams.
    • Contribute to a learning culture within the Foundation that is reflective, people-focused, and rooted in gender-sensitive evidence.
    • Manage relationships with government stakeholders, private sector and other actors in the gender space.
    • Provide support in identifying skill and workforce development gaps, issues and trends that affect gender space during the Foundation’s country strategy and program development processes.
    • Collaborate with Program Partners and high quality of work, and alignment with Foundation values, with potential managerial responsibilities.

    WHO YOU ARE

    • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in social sciences, including gender/women’s/youth studies, education or relevant discipline.
    • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in supporting young people, community mobilization, events and communications.
    • Knowledge of and experience with the landscape of local, national, regional, and pan-African women’s and youth-serving organizations and networks as well as knowledge of the country-specific social, economic and political contexts.
    • Experience in partnership management including capacity building, coordination and networking for effective gender mainstreaming and youth empowerment.
    • Proficiency with MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel).
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Amharic is required.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
    • Results driven and motivated.
    • Excellent prioritization and time management skills with ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to travel regularly within and outside the country of focus.
