    Administrative Officer (Training Support)

    The Position Description

    The Center for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (CEMA) at the University of Nairobi seeks to appoint a dedicated Administrative Officer (Training Support) with a passion for health research and strong organizational skills. This role involves providing administrative and logistical support for CEMA’s research and training activities. They will ensure the seamless execution of training programs by managing schedules, coordinating resources, and overseeing training-related documentation. Additionally, they will support training participants with logistical travel arrangements, coordinate faculty and trainers, and manage training venues to facilitate effective learning experiences.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of training sessions, workshops, or seminars
    • Coordinate with internal and external trainers, participants, and stakeholders to ensure training activities are scheduled and communicated effectively
    • Handle the logistical aspects of training programs, including coordinating travel and accommodation arrangements for trainers or participants
    • Prepare materials and handouts for each training session
    • Maintain accurate records of training sessions, including attendance, evaluation forms, and feedback from participants
    • Keep track of CEMA’s training schedules
    • Send out communication such as invitations, pre- and post-training surveys to participants
    • Serve as the point of contact for trainers and other stakeholders regarding training schedules and requirements
    • Assist in preparing reports on training activities, including participation rates, feedback, and outcomes
    • Support the evaluation process for trainings by gathering participant feedback and assisting with the analysis of training effectiveness
    • Working with the center’s administrative team to provide administrative an doperational support for the team

    Position Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or an equivalent field
    • At least two (2) years’ experience as an administrator in a busy environment
    • Experience working in health research capacity-building projects
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills and multitasking abilities and a problemsolving attitude
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft packages
    • Must be a self-motivated and reliable person who can work with minimal supervision

    Health Communication Specialist

    Position Responsibilities

    • Create a comprehensive communication plan for CEMA that aligns with its overall goals and outlines the Center’s messaging, target audiences, goals, and methods for communication to ensure that communication is consistent, effective, and impactful
    • Work with the researchers at CEMA to identify key messages and target audiences for health research data and develop clear and creative ways of presenting the Center’s research findings
    • Collaborate with CEMA researchers to explore research topics, employ statistical and analytical tools to uncover trends, patterns, and develop data driven stories
    • Work with CEMA researchers to translate complex scientific data into plain language for lay audiences, ensuring that the findings are accessible to non-experts without losing essential information
    • Design visuals (collate, analyze and visualize data) to extract valuable insights (graphs, infographics) to present research data to various audiences in a creative and compleling
    • Engage with journalists, bloggers, and media outlets to ensure accurate and responsible reporting on health research findings

    Position Requirements

    • At least 5 years of professional experience in health communication, including roles in public health, health education, or communication within healthcare settings
    • Demonstrated ability to refine complex scientific data into understandable and compelling material

    Research Fellow - Health Technology Assessment Specialist

    Position Responsibilities

    • Develop economic models to predict the short- and long-term costs and benefits of a health technology
    • Assess the financial impact of introducing a new technology or intervention into a healthcare system
    • Work with public health professionals and other stakeholders to gather input on the real-world use and impact of technologies in health practices
    • Conduct systematic reviews of scientific literature to assess the disease burden, determine clinical effectiveness and safety of health technologies

    Scientific Coordinator

    Position Responsibilities

    • Coordinate research activities and ensure timely delivery of outputs among collaborators in Senegal, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia and any other countries involved with the African Modelling Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (AM2NTD), the Africa Modelling and Analytics for Women (AMAX) programs, malaria modelling initiative, Consortium for Leadership for Epidemiological-Economic Analysis for Epidemic Response in Africa, among other initiatives at CEMA.

    Software Engineer

    Position Responsibilities

    Job Description

    • Screen and enroll eligible participants in the study by ensuring proper administration of consents procedures.
    • Administer screening and enrollment questionnaire to the participants.

    Project Coordinator

    Job Description

    • Planning, organizing and coordinating study work including establishing and maintaining linkages with participating hospitals and other stakeholders.
    • Ensure necessary local ethics review board and governmental approvals and renewal are obtained for the study and managing study ethics and human subjects’ protection.

    Molecular Biology Laboratory Technician

    Purpose of the Position

    • Implementation of molecular biology techniques, specifically droplet-based single cell RNA sequencing, preparation of Next-Generation Sequencing libraries, sequencing on an Illumina NGS platform and processing of sequence data.
    • Implementation of flow cytometry techniques for cell sorting of antigen-specific immune cells.

    Job requirements/Specifications:

    • A bachelor in Molecular Biology with at least 2 years’ extensive hands-on experience in a molecular biology laboratory, with independent performance of next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows and droplet-based singe sell RNA sequencing (e.g. 10X genomics Chromium platform) relevant experience may also be considered for this position.
    • Mandatory proficiency with Illumina sequencing platforms (e.g., NovaSeq, MiSeq).
    • Hands-on experience in flow cytometry and cell sorting.
    • Publications in a peer-reviewed journal as a first author or significant contributor in the field of molecular biology will be an added advantage.
