    Communications Officer

    The Communications Officer is an exciting opportunity for a young professional with an interest in the humanitarian/protection sector. The position entails building a stronger media presence through articles, social media, visibility material and web development for the Organization. The position requires working closely with GRT offices in Kenya and Somalia.

    TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES

    1. Update and manage the GRT website.

    2. Generate content/ stories for GRT’s website, media sources, donors, reports, etc. which highlight the importance of GRT's work.

    3. Build capacity of selected GRT staff on documentation and storytelling

    4. Conduct field visit to collect relevant information and insight on GRT activities

    5. Assist in development, formatting and publication of GRT visibility material

    6. Produce graphic designs, photo documentation and narratives relevant to storytelling about GRT work.

    7. Provide technical assistance in regards to launching, marketing, and dissemination of GRT communications material.

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

    · Degree in media and communication or journalism, or equivalent knowledge acquired through professional/field experience

    · Knowledge of and proficient in use of computer applications related to web editing and graphic design

    · Ability to use photo/ video storage products

    · Knowledge and experience of production of printed material (layout, writing/ content, printing)

    · Fluency in written and spoken English (knowledge of Italian language is an asset)

    · Good public relations skills

    · Ability to work in tight deadlines in a dynamic, multicultural, and fast-paced work environment.

    · skill to alter style of writing to speak to various audiences

    · ability to simplify and explain complex issues and outcomes

    · Good understanding and previous experience of humanitarian practices and emergency activities is an asset

    · Honesty and truthfulness

    · Capable of working pro-actively and independently, while being an excellent team worker

    · Willing to travel and spend time in the field to capture stories

    · Commitment to GRT values, principles and priorities.
