    Ecotourism Development Officer

    Job description

    Our client, a company in the Rift Valley at the heart of Maasailand, that is located about 100 kms from Nairobi is looking to fill the above position through her Foundation. Our client has a tented camp and is accessible by road, train or air.

    PURPOSE OF POSITION:

    Reporting to the Foundation Manager and working closely with the Club team leader, deliver the business targets for the tourism business.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Market the tented camp and tourism infrastructure in the area.
    • Work with tour companies and industry players to grow the tourism business in the area.
    • Develop innovative products and offers that make the lake within the company an attractive tourist destination.
    • Activate social media campaigns that will bring visitors into the camp.
    • Support guest management support
    • Facilitate community ownership and involvement in the foundation tourism project
    • Support the bead work project assistant in profiling the project to the women and in tracking the bead work efforts at group ranch level.
    • Support registration and monitoring of the local women involved in bead work
    • Work with the foundation team to surmount the language and cultural barriers to facilitate the tourism projects.
    • Work with the foundation team to develop new products and cultural concepts to grow the tourism project.
    • Support the foundation in securing ownership and buy-in from the community and all stakeholders of the projects.
    • Support the customer service and product development team to deliver a positive customer experience.
    • Provide support-logistical and coordination-to the tourism project.
    • Provide regular reports on the progress of the tourism business.
    • Carry out consumer insight and market research to understand customer needs and requirements.
    • Marketing of the schools and social marketing campaigns.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • University degree in tourism, marketing or business development.
    • Minimum one-year experience in tourism marketing.
    • Holders of a diploma in tourism with over five years’ business development experience will be considered.
    • Familiarity with community dynamics
    • Training in customer service
    • Good command of Swahili and English.

    Working Environment / Conditions:

    Work environment: Field and Office based

    The position will require significant amounts of time in the field (out of office) supporting the project teams.

    Assistant Permanent Way Engineer

    Job description

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    The Assistant Permanent Way Engineer is required to carry out preparation for the preventive and corrective maintenance on the components of the track. This may involve; supervision and reviewing the work of staff responsible for maintenance and replacement of the track, junctions and appurtenances; ensuring work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performing related duties as assigned.

    MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Maintain and ensure safety of way works in his /her charge; this consists of inspections and planning of track maintenance related tasks and ensuring track provides for safe and uninterrupted train operations.
    • Ensure quality and progress of new works by preparing plans and estimates, measurements and executions.
    • Develop and maintains maximum train speeds for track; develops and maintains track maintenance related forecasts and schedules.
    • Performs field quality audits of the track maintenance and construction activities on the operating system.
    • Maintains track and track way infrastructure asset management databases; maintains historical maintenance records and databases related to track and track way infrastructure.
    • Coordinate and supervise permanent way team leaders
    • Prepare annual permanent way budget requirement.
    • Control expenditure in relation to budget allotment.
    • Submit proposal to be included in track renewal programs.
    • Handle emergencies quickly and ensure all necessary equipment are availed at site. He should take all possible measures to restore traffic.
    • Ensure staff discipline is maintained within the frame work of rules.
    • Investigate, monitor, inspect and analyze existing field conditions; prepare periodic and special reports and other necessary correspondence as assigned.
    • Should ensure security of rails, chairs, sleepers and other materials in his charge and ensure that unused materials are stacked properly clear of the line, so as not to interfere with the safe running of trains.

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Civil Engineering or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
    • Registration by Engineers Board of Kenya
    • Knowledge in railway maintenance and be conversant with the railway general operating rules and regulations.
    • Knowledge in principles and practices of safety in track equipment and maintenance

    Experience

    Minimum 4 years’ experience in the railway maintenance, construction, design of railway track and structures.

    Skills

    • Ability to coordinate and manage inspection and maintenance staff.
    • Be able to coordinate with officials of other departments
    • Analyzing, evaluating alternatives and recommending solutions.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the
    • course of the work.

    Other Requirements

    • Must be willing to work overtime, nights and/or weekends as required.
    • Able to work long hours, in inclement weather conditions and exercise good judgments.
    • Must possess sufficient mobility to inspect track way and structures, and in-progress construction.

    Assistant Locomotive Maintenance Engineer

    Job description

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    The Locomotive Maintenance Engineer is required to carry out locomotive maintenance as well as daily turn round service (dtrs) on the locomotives. This will involve; supervision and reviewing the work of staff responsible for locomotive maintenance and work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performing related duties as assigned.

    MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Able to perform root cause analysis on Component failure of locomotives.
    • Be able to assess the Inventory needs of the workshop and liaise with procurement to prepare orders
    • Coordinate and supervise locomotive maintenance team leaders
    • Prepare annual Locomotive Maintenance budget requirement.
    • Control expenditure in relation to budget allotment.
    • Handle emergencies quickly coordinate team members and have the locomotives back up and running
    • Ensure staff discipline is maintained within the frame work of rules.

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Mechanical/Electrical and Electronic Engineering or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
    • Registration by Engineers Board of Kenya
    • Knowledge in Locomotive maintenance will be an added advantage
    • Knowledge of workshop principles and practices of safety in a workshop

    Experience

    Minimum 4 years’ Hands On experience in the maintenance operations, in a workshop, automotive or FMCG Industry

    Skills

    • Ability to coordinate and manage maintenance staff.
    • Be able to coordinate with other teams from departments within the company
    • Analyzing Root Causes, and evaluating alternatives and recommending solutions.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
