    Consultant- Environmental Surveillance Landscaping in Africa

    Scope of Work for the Consultant

    The consultants will be responsible for identifying and reaching out to national and regional stakeholders, collecting data on ES laboratories, conducting interviews, and completing questionnaires. Questionnaires will be submitted to the data manager for analysis and results will be used by the consultants to compile a report on findings for each region. The consultant will report to the regional hub lead, to the technical lead and to the responsible project manager. The consultant will get support from a PATH Fellow/ masters student to assist with data collection amongst other tasks.

    The consultant will support PATH project team with the following activities:

    • Identification of local and regional stakeholders including donors, continental programs, pan African organizations (Africa CDC, ASLM, WHO Afro, GPI etc.), national programs, academic and research institutions (Ministry of health, PI Dakar, KEMRI etc.)
    • Reach out to stakeholders, conduct interviews, and collect ES data.
    • Submit data to data manager.
    • Compile results in a report on findings for each region
    • Mentorship of one masters’ student/intern to understudy the project work under her/his Scope of Work.

    Required Experience

    • The applicant should preferably hold a master’s degree in Microbiology, biology, laboratory technology, public health or related advanced degree course.
    • Previous experience with Wastewater surveillance, or polio environmental surveillance is preferred.
    • Having contacts of stakeholders involved in wastewater surveillance of the respective African region is an added advantage.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of infectious diseases and laboratory practices
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.
    • Proven effectiveness working in a team-based environment, but also capable of working independently.
    • Must have legal authorization to work in the respective African region/hub headquarters.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English, write reports and scientific publications.

    • CV indicating all experience from similar assignments, as well as the contact details (email and telephone number) of the candidate and at least three (3) professional references.
