Data Analyst (Spatial Analysis) at African Institute for Development Policy

AFIDEP is looking for suitably qualified persons to work in the Malawi office as a Data Analyst (Spatial analysis emphasis) for 6 months, with strong possibility of extension or longer-term contract depending on performance. Reporting to the Project Leads, the Data Analyst intern will support the statistical and spatial analysis of nationally representative secondary data.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities will include:

1. Interpret proposals for secondary data analysis into data analysis plans
2. Download and prepare data for analysis (DHS, MICS, or PMA data)
3. Create derived variables and conduct statistical analyses including spatial analysis
4. Create heat maps using spatial analysis, and geo mapping
5. Present analyses and Interpret the results
6. Create research summaries for non-statistician audience

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Data Analyst (Spatial Analysis Emphasis)

• Masters’ degree in statistics or a quantitative discipline (econometrics, spatial epidemiology, demography etc)
• Advanced data analytical skills
• Advanced knowledge and experience of using statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS, etc.)
• Working knowledge of GIS software (Arc GIS or QGIS)
• Experience of conducting spatial analysis and heat maps
• Should possess excellent scientific writing skills
• Personal drive and ability to respond to issues efficiently;
• Ability to work as a part of a diversified multicultural and multifunctional team
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
