    Director Crops Development and Forestry

    Job Requirements

    • Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Home Economics, Crop production, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agri-business, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Management, Agricultural Extension & Education, Entrepreneurship or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized.
    • Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development course not less than 6 weeks
    • Certificate in a senior management course not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
    • Professional training in a relevant field such as extension and management, policy analysis, participatory project planning and management, crop protection, disaster preparedness and early warning for food security, market standard development, Land use and environmental management, agribusiness development, agricultural information
    • Must have served in the grade of Deputy Director Agriculture/or Deputy Director Forestry and land use or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for at least three (3) years.
    • Leadership skills Communication skills, Interpersonal skills, Organizational skills, Ability to work under pressure, Negotiation skills, Ability to build and lead cohesive teams and Problem solving skills.
    • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

    Job Description

    • This position is responsible for coordination and overseeing general administration of crop production, processing, storage and marketing, promoting urban forestry and rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems, as well as linkage, networking and liaison of the section with stakeholders within and outside the County.
    • Oversee the management and operations of county crop demonstration farms
    • Oversee the preparation and implementation of work plans and budgets for the directorate
    • Advise the county government on issues relating to the crops and urban forestry legislations, policies and their conceived implications
    • Implement performance contracting and management of crops and forestry section staff to enhance efficiency in resource utilization and effectiveness in service delivery
    • Develop management strategies to ensure food and nutrition security while monitoring the implementation of specific safety net policies at county level
    • Ensure effective and timely deployment of staff across the various departmental sections
    • Monitor and evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures
    • Effectively coordinating of activities of the crops and urban forestry technical services in the County
    • Developing linkages within the sector and with other relevant stakeholders and research institutions for crops and urban forestry development
    • Facilitating the development of crops and urban forestry micro enterprises, value addition and business plans in the county
    • Identifying impediments and constraints to implementation of crops and urban forestry policies and programmes and projects in the County
    • Designing and implementing well prioritized and competitive programmes and projects for the County
    • Setting long term goals for the development of crops and urban forestry in the County and mainstream Integrity Assurance in projects and programmes
    • Taking an active role in the formulation, Review and implementation of County Specific Crops and urban forestry policies
    • Implementing the national and county specific Crops and Urban forestry policies and legislation.
    • Developing regulatory frameworks for county specific Crops and Urban forestry policies
    • Representing government position in the agricultural boards, committees and institutions as provided by the law
    • Coordinating production, documentation and dissemination of relevant Crops and urban Forestry information
    • Promoting appropriate development and transfer of technologies for agro based industries
    • Provide input into the budgeting process in the Crops Development and Forestry Section.
