Principal Plant Operator at Kitui County

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade a candidate must:

1. Served in the grade of Chief Plant Operator for a minimum period of three (3) years;
2. A valid driving license free from any current endorsement (s) for relevant class(es) of plants;
3. Passed Occupational Trade Test for Plant Operator;
4. Ability to operate two (2) plants of difficult rating’ A and two (2) Plants of difficult rating B;
5. Attended Refresher Course for Plant Operators lasting not less than one (1) week within a period of three (3) years at the Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBIT) or any other recognized Institution;
6. Attended First Aid Course lasting not less than one (I) week from St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution; and
7. Demonstrated outstanding professional competence and ability in work performance and results.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Operating Plants of ‘difficult rating’ A and B;
2. Keeping records of inventory of all plants in a project/unit;
3. Formulating and administering working techniques;
4. Assisting in costing and evaluating small roads and accesses;
5. Preparing maintenance schedules for servicing of machines;
6. Organizing, managing and controlling operatives and equipment on a given construction project and unit;
7. Carrying out filter and oil changes and simple adjustments not requiring special tools and assisting in training plant operators; and
8. Manage staff in implementing programmes approved by the maintenance unit.
