    System Librarian

    Grade 12 (1position) – UOK/ADM/1/02/22

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Applicants must have a Masters degree in Library and Information Sciences majoring in IT or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
    In addition, applicants must have the following:

    • A Bachelors Degree in Library and Information Sciences with Specialty of Information Technology/systems from an accredited and recognized University.
    • A minimum of nine (9) years working experience three of which should be at grade 11 in a well established and automated academic library specializing in ICT Services.
    • Presented papers in conferences/ workshops
    • Be computer literate
    • Hands-on knowledge on use of library management systems.
    • A member of a relevant professional society/Association.
    • Broad knowledge of the range of solutions currently available for library catalogues and archival finding aids, including search and discovery tools and other applications that enable integrated access to analog and digital collections
    • Proficiency with SQL and SQL scripting
    • Knowledge of MARC format an asset
    • Diploma in Information Technology from an accredited and recognized institution will be an added advantage.
    • Good knowledge of spoken and written English

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Managing ICT resources in the University library
    • Develop Information Technology Policies for the library
    • Train staff on the use and application of ICTs in the library
    • Planning and management of information systems development
    • Provide support in use of electronic information sources
    • Manage the library’s Web Pages
    • Provide Online searching using the Internet
    • Manage Operating systems
    • Design and realization of bibliographic databases
    • Database management and operations
    • Provide information literacy programmes
    • Manage the functions of computing, network and systems, support services
    • Executing and controlling information and services budget
    • Ensure automation of services in University Libraries
    • Supervise Systems Librarians
    • Communicate regularly and negotiate with system vendors
    • Attend relevant meetings
    • Ensure proper management of library web pages
    • Ensure proper planning and management of information systems development
    • Designing and realization of electronic information sources and databases
    • Control and manage ICT resources in the university library
    • Prepare system reports and statistics
    • Prepare budgets for IT equipment, resources and services
    • Train staff on use and application of ICTs in the library
    • Develop information technology policies for the library
    • Ensure automation of services in the library
