    Driver Mechanic

    Job Purpose

    • The Driver Mechanic is responsible for the safe transportation and delivery of products to customers while ensuring that assigned vehicles remain in excellent mechanical condition through routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs. The role combines professional driving with practical mechanical expertise to minimize vehicle downtime and ensure timely deliveries.

    Job description

    Driving & Distribution

    • Safely operate company trucks in compliance with Kenyan traffic laws and company policies.
    • Deliver products accurately and on schedule to customers within assigned routes.
    • Verify delivery quantities against invoices and delivery notes.
    • Obtain customer acknowledgements and return signed delivery documents.
    • Ensure proper loading and securing of products to prevent damage.
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
    • Report accidents, incidents, or traffic violations immediately.
    • Maintain high standards of customer service while representing MobileMart.

    Vehicle Maintenance & Mechanical Duties

    • Perform daily vehicle inspections before departure.
    • Diagnose and repair minor mechanical faults.

    Carry out preventive maintenance including:

    • Oil checks
    • Coolant checks
    • Brake inspection
    • Tyre inspection
    • Battery maintenance
    • Belt adjustments
    • Replace worn-out components where authorized.
    • Coordinate major repairs with approved garages.
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records.
    • Monitor vehicle service schedules and mileage.
    • Report major mechanical issues before they result in breakdowns.

    Fleet Care

    • Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicle.

    Ensure all statutory requirements are current including:

    • Insurance
    • Inspection certificates
    • Road licence
    • Fire extinguisher
    • Reflective triangles
    • First aid kit
    • Monitor fuel consumption and report abnormalities.
    • Promote economical driving to reduce fuel costs.

    Compliance & Safety

    • Adhere to all company safety procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with occupational safety requirements.
    • Never operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
    • Observe transport standards.
    • Maintain confidentiality of company information.

    Documentation

    • Complete daily vehicle inspection checklists.
    • Maintain mileage logs.
    • Submit fuel receipts and accountability reports.
    • Record repairs and maintenance undertaken.
    • Submit incident reports where necessary.

    Requirements

    Education

    • KCSE Certificate or equivalent.

    Professional Qualifications

    • Valid Kenyan Driving Licence Class BCE (Mandatory).
    • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
    • Defensive Driving Certificate (Added Advantage).
    • Automotive Mechanics Certification (Grade III/II/I, Artisan Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent) is highly desirable.

    Experience

    • Minimum 5 years' professional driving experience.
    • Applicants should preferably be 40 years of age and above.
    • Proven experience driving medium and heavy commercial vehicles.
    • Demonstrated experience performing vehicle maintenance and minor mechanical repairs.
