    Investment Manager

    Overall purpose of the job

    The job holder is responsible for the overall financial affairs of the Society including financial reporting, cashflow management and developing strategies based on financial research and guiding CEO and the Central Management Committee in making sound financial business decisions in the long and short term.

    Reporting

    1. The Investment Manager will be an integral part of an investment team, reporting to the CEO and the Board of Directors.
    2. With respect to matters relating to new and existing investments, the employee will also work with the respective Business Unit Managers and specialist teams.

    Requirements of the Role

    1. Demonstrable experience in managing diverse investments.
    2. Supporting investment deal origination.
    3. Conducting due diligence and developing investment proposals for new investments.
    4. Portfolio management of existing investments.
    5. Providing general support to the senior management team on investment operational matters.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Investment Management

    1. Development and implementation of a comprehensive and innovative Investment strategy.
    2. Work with colleagues to identify, negotiate and appraise a portfolio of debt, equity and mezzanine investments. This involves:
      • Deal origination and initial screening and appraisal of new investment opportunities.
      • Alongside CEO and Board, participating in commercial negotiations relating to the structure and terms of any potential investment.
      • Carrying out due diligence of investment opportunities, including oversight of SIC’s Investments in commercial units, as well as liaising with third-party service providers as required.
    3. Lead investor relations forums and engagements.

    Portfolio Management

    Provide on-going portfolio management and reporting on portfolio investments, to include:

    1. Monitoring and evaluation of investment performance against key targets, including the management and reporting of potential business/investment risks as they arise.
    2. Providing (or procuring from within SIC or externally) management support to help investees as required.
    3. Involvement in quarterly portfolio reporting to the Corporate Team and SIC’s Board.
    4. Work with the Corporate team to ensure that SIC resources are most effectively utilised across the portfolio; and
    5. Developing and maintaining an active pipeline of investment opportunities.

    Operations

    Work closely with the senior team in the firm to manage the day-to-day activities and overall financial performance of the firm:

    1. Participate in budget and investment target setting.
    2. Work with the corporate team on overall strategy, cost-management and operational objectives.
    3. Monitor the financial performance against agreed KPIs; and
    4. Contribute to external reporting.

    Professional and Academic Qualifications

    1. Undergraduate Degree from a reputable university with a post graduate education in business.
    2. Registered with relevant professional bodies.
    3. Investment Qualification is an added advantage.

    Knowledge and Skills

    1. Not less than 5-7 years’ experience in a relevant investment business (e.g. private equity, DFI, impact investor, financial services).
    2. Experience of working in Kenya in an investment role.
    3. Excellent analytical, finance, and negotiation skills (including familiarity with a range of debt and equity instruments).
    4. Strong financial modelling skills (including equity valuation models).
    5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    6. Collegiate working style with a strong management capability.
    7. Ability to develop and manage strategic relationships with funders, peer organizations and potential investees.
    8. Ideally an understanding and experience of funding and development priorities in Kenya and their reporting requirements.

    Unit Manager – Real Estate Portfolio

    Safaricom Investment Co-operative (SIC) an investment cooperative set up in 2009 under the Co-operatives Act Cap 490, seeks to fill the position of a Unit Manager in charge of the housing business.

    Reporting

    1. The Housing Unit Manager will be an integral part of the Senior Management team, reporting to the CEO and the Board of Directors.
    2. With respect to matters relating to new and existing investments, the Unit Manager will work with the respective Functions’ Managers and specialist teams.

    Requirements of the Role

    1. Demonstrable experience in real estate sector especially housing business.
    2. Skills and Competencies in:
      • Housing projects construction value chain management.
      • Real estate business development.
    3. Conducting due diligence and supporting developing investment proposals for new investments in housing.
    4. Portfolio management of existing housing investments.
    5. Providing general support to the senior management team on housing operational matters.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Housing Unit Leadership and Management

    1. Champion development and Implementation of a comprehensive and innovative strategy for the housing business unit.
    2. Deliver negotiated housing unit returns as per Board risk Appetite guidelines and Investment Policy.
    3. Spearheading housing projects onboarding process(es) and activities.
    4. Managing the housing unit technical, business and sales team.
    5. Stakeholder management in housing investments.
    6. Oversight and control of external contractor(s) and housing unit vendor teams.
    7. Contract management of actors in housing construction and selling activities.
    8. Key stakeholder in market research and gathering of industry intelligence in collaboration with the marketing team.
    9. Monitoring and evaluation of the key project progress milestones.
    10. Oversight quality control and value for money procurement.
    11. Forge strategic partnerships with key actors in the housing business including financing partners, forward and backwards aggregators, regulatory and key supervisory units..
    12. Liaise with risk management teams to mainstream the Housing Unit’s key risks in the ERM Framework and configure a controlled environment within the Unit.
    13. Deliver thought leadership on housing sector.

    Operations

    1. Not less than 5-7 years’ experience in a real estate sector at management level.
    2. Excellent entrepreneurial, analytical and negotiation skills.
    3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    4. Collegiate working style with a strong management capability.
    5. Ability to develop and manage strategic relationships with funders, peer organizations and potential invest.

    Head of Marketing

    Requirements of the role

    1. Demonstrable experience in marketing management in the real estate sector or investment sector.
    2. Support development and implementation of comprehensive marketing strategic plan.
    3. Provide leadership in building a strong corporate brand that has a strong presence in the market.
    4. Campaign planning and oversight on media buying, campaign execution and campaign review.
    5. Leadership in obtaining market insights and customer feedback.
    6. Spearhead innovative product development and product pricing.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Strategy; Development of annual marketing plans aligned to the overall business strategy.
    2. In charge of marketing at the corporate level for the organization.
    3. Continuous evaluation of the plans for adherence as well as alignment to industry/market forces.
    4. Business; Entrenching ROI into marketing activities.
    5. Ensuring that the marketing budget is spent in a cost-effective way.
    6. People; Leading as well as managing direct reports..
    7. Fostering symbiotic relationships with stakeholders both in and out of the business Partnerships.
    8. Responsible for managing any agencies assigned to the marketing department i.e. Advertising, Media, PR and Digital agencies.
    9. Lead role in providing creative stimulus and insights that ensure campaigns are disruptive and cohesive from a channel point of view.
    10. Research; coordinating research activities for various products as well as overall brand.
    11. Constantly leveraging market insights with regards to product and campaign development.
    12. Integrated marketing and communication activities that help move the brand forward.
    13. Develop the brand strategy and implement brand building activities.
    14. Negotiating and secure prime advertising opportunities on the various media platforms.

    Professional and Academic Qualifications

    1. A relevant Degree from a recognized University in Kenya.
    2. A post graduate Degree in Marketing or relevant field..
    3. Must be a member of related Professional Organization.

    Knowledge and Skills

    1. Not less than 5 years’ experience in a marketing management role.
    2. Experience of working in Kenya in real estate and in investment sector.
    3. Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
    4. Strong customer relationship management skills.
    5. Collegiate working style with a strong management capability.
    6. Ability to drive outstanding customer experience and inculcate a customer centric culture in the organization.
    7. Skilled in brand strategy and product development.
