    Community Empowerment Officer (West Pokot, Isiolo, Kakamega, Bumala, Sondu)

    About the Job:

    Community Empowerment Officer is the front lines of  the organization, deals directly with clients, recruiting members and marketing the loan product, ensuring prompt and complete collection of loans and seeing to it that the client increase her house hold income, generate savings, accumulate productive assets and provide employment for to adult members of her  household

    Tasks and Responsibilities:

    Business development:

    • Identify, initiate and manage strategic community partnerships that increase quality
    • Represent Rafode at networking events, seminars, and conferences; frequently presenting our mission and services
    • Develop, organize, and conduct training for Rafode clients and prospective clients in conjunction with community partners positioning our organization as a leader in alternative financing;
    • Support public relations with client success stories.

    Lending:

    • Work closely with clients to provide them with loans, ensuring client satisfaction throughout the loan application process;
    • Sell the loan and follow-up regularly according to policy; effectively retain renewal clients and convert potential clients into borrowers;
    • Obtain information and documentation for individuals that qualify for a loan;
    • Ensure quality control of all data entry and provide friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful customer service to our clients’ inquiries about Rafode’s loan program and requirements;
    • Interview prospective borrowers and assess their ability and willingness to repay a loan;
    • Analyze the information and documentation provided by the client, determine if the client qualifies for a loan and, if so, make a recommendation for approval;
    • Meet with clients at loan closings, ensuring that all paperwork is accurate and that information regarding loan is properly disclosed to client.

    Other duties:

    • Work with clients on a one-on-one basis to deliver a range of financial education services targeted to their individual needs. These include recordkeeping assistance, cash-flow management, credit management, and referrals to other organizations. Refer to other organizations when appropriate;
    • Ensure strong loan performance, including on time payments. Assist with collections calls to delinquent clients;
    • Take a participative and active role in the overall implementation of Rafode  Microfinance program

    Requirements.

    • Experience in agricultural finance and microfinance;
    • Experience in analysis of markets and channels for delivering financial services;
    • Experience in client mobilization and client recruitment, ready to meet targets and deadline.
    • Willing to work in the rural areas
    • Certificate, Diploma in Business administration or any other relevant qualification in Agribusiness

    Farm Manager - Horticulture - Nanyuki

    We are looking for an experienced Farm Manager. If you have the passion, experience & skills to manage a horticulture farm in Laikipia County, near Nanyuki, submit your application as soon as possible. The farm currently focuses on French beans and onions, with possibility for other crops in the future.

    This is a hands on position that involves instructing and supervising farm hands and inspecting and carrying out work in areas such as: 

    • preparing fields for planting; 
    • planting; 
    • irrigating, applying herbicides and insecticides; 
    • checking soil moisture, weed and insect infestations; 
    • harvesting and transporting the crop

    The farm manager will be expected to manage the farm proactively and ensure excellent financial returns, liaising with the directors. Key expected results: high per acre yields of quality farm produce at an economical cost. The directors will discuss a commission based package with the farm manager. 

    Farm Location: 30 minutes from Nanyuki town

    Job Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the management of all the operations of the farm both technically and administratively, ensuring timely and rational decision making. These include and are not limited to: Develop and implement optimal farm plans; Labour management; Crop nutrition; Prevention and management of crop diseases and other threats; Water management; Community relations; Harvest and post-harvest management and sales; Inventory management;  Train and supervise staff;
    • Responsible for setting performance targets and goals for the farm in consultation with the directors, and work to ensure targets are met;
    • Provide technical and administrative guidance to all the staff in the farm for the attainment of the goals of the farm; 
    • Ensure there are adequate inputs and that machinery and tools to be used are in good condition;
    • Ensure safety in all staff operations through adherence to safety regulations when carrying out farm operations;
    • Prepare regular financial and administrative reports and discuss the same with the directors.
    • Maintain regular communication with the directors on farm related issues, to ensure quality and timeliness of decisions and actions.

    Personal Qualities

    • Horticulture management experience
    • Leadership Skills (able to supervise a team of more than 20 workers)
    • Practical down to earth philosophy ie able to spend lots of time in the farm with the other workers, ensuring effective execution of farm activities. 
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Analytical & problem-solving skills
    • Team Player
    • Self – driven and innovative

    Qualifications for the Farm Manager Job

    • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Agriculture / Business Administration
    • Good in record keeping
    • At least 3 years practical experience undertaking similar roles. We are looking for experience not academics. 
    • Must be computer literate.

    Business Development Officers (West Pokot & Isiolo)

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for the overall performance and activities of the branch and participates in making decisions.
    • Ensure effective control environment with focus on compliance of Prudential and other regulatory instructions with no procedural slippages
    • Making sure targets are met, coaching and developing staff, keeping the office to a high standard of discipline and integrity and dealing with customer complaints.
    • Review and analyze performance information and reports, which are then given and shared with Community empowerment officers(loan officers)
    • Spearhead Promotion of Rafode products and services in the branch
    • Monitoring of disbursed loans - Delinquency management
    • Assuring long term relationship through high client satisfaction, reaching a high ration of revolving clients – Customer care
    • Maintaining quality portfolio in the branch by ensuring recruitment of viable Entrepreneurs.
    • Carrying out proper vetting and assessment of loans application for credit committee approvals.
    • Identify loans for recovery and coordinate recovery efforts within the branch
    • Initiate and maintain good relationship between Rafode and local stakeholders including provincial administration, church etc
    • Performing other duties as may be deemed necessary by the management.

    Desired qualifications and experience 

    • Degree holder in relevant field
    • At least two years of experience in a managerial post in a micro finance institution or bank
    • Diploma holders with at least 3 years’ experience in a managerial post in a microfinance institution will be considered
