    Internal Audit Officer – Internal Audit

    JOB PURPOSE

    Provide independent and objective assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of the Bank’s governance, risk management, compliance, and internal control framework through the execution of risk-based internal audit engagements. Conduct audit planning, fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up activities in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards, CBK Prudential Guidelines, applicable laws and regulations, and the Bank’s Internal Audit methodology.

    KEY RESPONSIBILTIES 

    Audit Planning

    • Participate in planning assigned risk-based audit engagements in accordance with the approved annual audit plan.
    • Obtain an understanding of audited processes through walkthroughs, document reviews, data analysis, and stakeholder discussions.
    • Identify key risks, controls, and applicable regulatory requirements to support the development of audit programs.
    • Develop audit procedures and testing approaches that adequately address identified risks and audit objectives.
    • Prepare audit planning documentation in accordance with the Bank’s audit methodology and quality standards.

    Audit Execution 

    • Execute audit procedures to assess the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls across operational, financial, credit, treasury, ICT, digital banking, compliance, and other business processes.
    • Perform substantive and control testing using risk-based auditing techniques, data analytics, and professional judgment.
    • Analyse audit evidence to identify control weaknesses, process inefficiencies, regulatory breaches, and emerging risks.
    • Apply analytical techniques including trend analysis, root cause analysis, and exception analysis to support audit conclusions.
    • Escalate significant control deficiencies, suspected fraud, regulatory breaches, or other material issues promptly through established reporting channels.
    • Maintain complete, accurate, and well-supported audit working papers that comply with internal quality assurance requirements and professional standards.

    Audit Reporting, Monitoring & Follow-up 

    • Prepare clear, concise, evidence-based audit findings and recommendations for inclusion in audit reports.
    • Discuss audit observations with process owners to validate factual accuracy before report finalization.
    • Monitor implementation of agreed management action plans and perform follow-up reviews to verify effective remediation of audit issues.
    • Document the status of outstanding audit issues and provide updates to Audit Management.
    • Support special audits, investigations, regulatory reviews, and other assignments as directed.

    Risk & Compliance

    • Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls supporting the Bank’s governance, risk management, and compliance processes.
    • Evaluate compliance with applicable laws, CBK Prudential Guidelines, internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • Assess controls over key risk areas including credit, operational, ICT/cybersecurity, AML/CFT/CPF, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
    • Identify and communicate control deficiencies, regulatory breaches, unethical practices, and emerging risks identified during audit engagements.
    • Provide objective audit observations and practical recommendations to strengthen internal controls while maintaining auditor independence.
    • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory developments, emerging risks, auditing standards, and industry best practices.

    DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY

    • Determine the audit procedures and testing techniques required to achieve assigned audit objectives within the approved audit methodology.
    • Evaluate the sufficiency, reliability, and relevance of audit evidence to support audit conclusions.
    • Exercise professional judgment in assessing control effectiveness and the significance of audit observations.
    • Recommend audit findings, risk ratings, and corrective actions for supervisory review.
    • Recommend closure of audit issues after validating implementation of agreed corrective actions.
    • Escalate significant control failures, suspected fraud, or material regulatory breaches promptly in accordance with established escalation protocols.

    ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or a related discipline from a recognized institution.

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum of three (3) years’ progressive experience in Internal Audit, External Audit, Risk Management, Compliance, or Assurance within a financial institution or other highly regulated environment.
    • Demonstrated understanding of banking operations, credit processes, treasury operations, digital banking, financial crime risk, and regulatory compliance.
    • Experience using audit management systems and data analytics tools such as TeamMate, ACL, Power BI, SQL, or equivalent will be an added advantage.

    SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

    • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and investigative skills.
    • Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
    • Sound understanding of risk-based auditing principles and internal control frameworks.
    • High level of professional skepticism, objectivity, and attention to detail.
    • Ability to analyse complex business processes and identify root causes of control weaknesses.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships while maintaining independence.
    • Good planning, organisational, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data analysis tools.
    • High ethical standards, integrity, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
    • Willingness to travel to branches and other Bank locations as required.

    PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION

    • CPA (K) or ACCA mandatory.
    • CIA, CISA, CRMA, CFE, or equivalent certification is a strong advantage.

    Relationship Manager – Bancassurance

    JOB PURPOSE

    The job holder will be responsible for business revenue generation through the existing Branch channels and expansion to the general insuring public. This entails formulating strategies for the Intermediaries business growth and active selling to the existing bank customers from various business units segments and retail business from branches. He/she will also be required to build, nurture and manage a team to ensure growth of business, establishing and managing business relationships and ensuring high customer service standards are maintained in line with the overall strategic plan.

    KEY RESPONSIBILTIES 

    • Business Development
    • Premium Collection and policy administration
    • People Management

    Business Development 

    • Generating Commission Revenue for Bancassurance products from bank and non-bank customers with Special attention to branches, retail customers and direct customer with no facilities 
    • Generation of insurance business from the banks existing corporate, micro and SME Customers pledging asset as collaterals.
    • Generations of Retail insurance business through branches -Medical, Individual life and group life. 
    • Follow up on insurance business with Branch staff and business teams for business from the branches and respective head office units.
    • Development and execution of marketing programs in line with the Bancassurance strategy.
    • Prospecting for new sources of business from the direct clients and branch referrals.
    • Training of bank staff translating to business conversion on monthly basis.
    • Accompany Relationship Managers and Branch managers for customer visits translating to business revenue.
    • Preparation of relevant SLAs with underwriters.
    • Cross-sell various bank products to the customers.
    • Formulate marketing strategies geared towards awareness and business growth within the branches 
    • Identify and explore new revenue streams to ensure growth of the business. 

    Premium Collection and Policy Administration

    • Maintain 95% collection rates on all business booked through I-pen within agreed credit approvals.
    • Ensure 100% timely disbursement and prompt recovery of Insurance Premium Financing IPF Facilities
    • Ensure 95% of policy documents and motor certificates are delivered to customers within agreed turnaround times.
    • Achieve 90% renewal retention rate across all renewable insurance portfolios.
    • Follow-up with the underwriters on credit notes passed and refund same to customers

    People Management

    • Help to resolve conflict as to when they arise from branches especially during claims processing.
    • Co-ordinate the relationship of the business development with the operations team.
    • Participate in quarterly performance reviews an coaching team work sessions for all team members. 
    • Hold monthly coordination meeting with Operations team and resolve 90% of escalated issues within the agreed SLAs.
    • Resolve 90% of branch claims escalations within agreed turnaround times.

    DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY

    • The position entails day to day making of business decisions and advising customers on their insurance needs and costs. For Individual, SMEs and medium corporate customers with specific insurance requirement, the position holder is expected to make informed decisions and give customers advise on the same. Large corporate customers such as manufacturing plants, a recommendation will be made and a survey recommended to the customer immediately to ensure sufficiency of the covers issued.
    • The position holder will also make decisions on the credit periods offered to the customers and will be responsible for collection of any outstanding premiums, in line with the insurance companies credit policies. Any matter involving premium refunds will be referred to the Finance and operations team who will seek approval from Head of Bancassurance before effecting.

    ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

    • University degree (Preference given to a Business-related degree or B Com Insurance )

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Bancassurance or insurance industry or Sales experience (Preference given to Bancassurance experience in the industry)

    SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

    • Bancassurance Competence: Ability to understand the Insurance products offered in the market, and knowledge of all documentation and processes.
    • Technology Skills: Computer literate, excel and power point presentation skills 
    • Industry knowledge: Candid knowledge of the banking and insurance sector interactions.

    Claims and Underwriting Operations Officer

    JOB PURPOSE

    The job holder will be responsible for overall underwriting and claims strategy and ensuring all underwriting operations follow the Company and regulatory requirements. He/she is also will also be responsible for managing claims and ensure that the claims operations follow the Company and regulatory requirements.

    MAIN ACTIVITIES

    Business Retention 

    • Share the renewal listing to the allocated respective branches and ensure a renewal rate of 90% month on month.
    • Follow up with the branches and Relationship Managers for renewal confirmations 5 days before policy expiry
    • Follow up to ensure that premiums are collected.
    • Post the renewal endorsements to the Bancassurance core Insurance system for authorization.
    • Ensure Motor certificates, cover notes and policy documents and other fulfilments are issued to the clients as per the SLA.

    Business Management (Underwriting) 

    • Address all underwriting requirements for the allocated branches.
    • Ensure accurate debit notes & credit notes are raised in the Bancassurance system in a timely manner as per the SLA.
    • Ensure accurate policy endorsements and revisions are raised in the system.
    • Ensure Policy contra and cancellation credit notes are raised in the system.
    • Ensure Motor certificates, cover notes and policy documents and other fulfilments are issued to the clients in the allocated branches as per the SLA.
    • Advise Branches and clients on Insurance rates and terms.
    • Ensure Policy reinstatements revisions and endorsements are done and communicated to the underwriters.
    • Grow the Gross Written Premium of the intermediary by onboarding new clients and ensuring retention of the existing by servicing the branches assigned
    • Manage allocated branches on debt collection, policy renewals and policy cover issue.
    • File all insurance pledge forms and ensure renewal with the intermediary come expiry.
    • Enhance and maintain a good business relation between the intermediary and the insurance companies and branches assigned.
    • Support on Credit life declarations and credit life claims management
    • Play the debt management champion role by oversighting the Business Development and operations team on premium collections.

    Claims Management

    • Manage claims on assigned branches from end to end ensuring settlement within the timelines as per SLA.
    • Provide risk management advice – notifying the team on any issues affecting the risk and where improvement is required.
    • Updating customers and relationship managers on claim positions and statutes.
    • Receive and review claim process documentation and other relevant documents and pertinent requirements to ensure the accuracy and completeness.
    • Ensure claims are updated in the Insurance processing system (IPEN)
    • Ensure claims documentation for all insurance classes is satisfactorily done.
    • Ensure all claims received from branches and clients are registered and channeled to the insurers for action and within the stipulated timelines.
    • Escalations on static claims within timelines and schedule underwriter engagements and client visits where need be.
    • Managing client and service providers’ relationships – resolve clients’ (internal & external) issues and handling any complaints associated with a claim.
    • Ensuring the customer is treated fairly and that the customer receives excellent service in accordance with industry and company guidelines.
    • Any other official duty that may be allocated by the line manager from time to time.

    Customer Service

    • Ensure to provide explanation of insurance policies to customers, staff and the bank (internal customers).
    • Manage client and service providers’ relationships by resolving clients’ (internal & external) issues.
    • Manage the complains and compliments register through the support of the client’s services officer.
    • Ensure to respond to all e-mail correspondence and calls as per the service chatter.
    • Ensuring the customer is treated fairly and that the customer receives excellent service in accordance with industry and company guidelines

    • At least 1 years’ experience in insurance claims administration.

    • Comprehensive knowledge of general insurance products
    • Good planning, organization, and reporting skills with the ability to deliver effectively under strict deadlines
    • Ability to understand the impact of operational initiatives from a sales/marketing perspective
    • Excellent communication, presentation and customer service skills.
    • Proficiency in the use of MS Office software application

    PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION

    • COP (Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance) or progress in Diploma in Insurance ACII or IIK
