    Nurse Navigator, Department of Haematology/Onclogy

    Job Summary

    The role is housed with the Hem-Onc Clinic at AKUHN and will involve the coordination of the patient’s journey from presentation to discharge from the clinic and any follow up thereafter.  The clinic has many stations (registration, billing, triage, DART, MD visit, chemo-unit, discharge desk etc).  Each station has its own responsible individual and it is like a “busy round about”. The role of the Navigator is to coordinate an efficient flow of patients through the various touch points in the clinic and being the “traffic cop at the round about”. The role requires assisting, facilitating, helping, cross covering – all the ensure the efficient flow of patient through the clinic visit and ensuring a positive patient experience.  The Navigator may also be involved in assisting patients in coordinating their post clinic visit care as needed. Overall, the Navigator is the faciliator in the Hem-Onc clinic who will help eliminate barriers to timely care, facilitate flow through system, facilitate interactions with relevant hospital services, increase patient and provider satisfaction and support the inter-professional cancer care team.

    Responsibilities

    • Assess patients upon initial encounter and periodically throughout navigation, matching unmet needs with appropriate services, referrals and support services e.g. providers, dietetics, social work, finance teams etc.
    • Facilitate timely scheduling of appointments, diagnostic testing, and procedures to expedite the plan of care and promote continuity of care.
    • Participate in coordination of the plan of care with the multidisciplinary team, promoting timely follow-up on treatment and supportive care recommendations.
    • Act as a liaison and builds trusting relationships with patients, families, and caregivers through effective communica­tion and listening skills.
    • Act as a liaison and build a trusting relationship with all of the operational touch points and staff in the He-Onc clinic and thus be the go-to person for any disruption to the smooth and efficient flow of the clinic and the patient experience.

    Requirements

    • RN from a recognized school of nursing or University.
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
    • Post Graduate Diploma in Oncology will be an added advantage.
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
    • Minimum 4 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital, two of which must have been in oncology/chemotherapy unit.
    • Demonstrated evidence-based knowledge of current practices in Oncology nursing.
    • Experience in out-patient clinic operations.

    Multimedia & Design Specialist

     Job Summary

    The Specialist, Multimedia and Design is exceptionally creative and detail-oriented in creating content using video, photography, audio, graphics/illustrations to tell a story. The Specialist is a natural storyteller, using keen understanding of communications best practice and up-and-coming trends to create compelling content to advance AKU's priorities, global communications strategy, and social impact. Comprehensive analytics, a clear understanding of stakeholders, a resourceful approach to problem-solving, and a drive for continuous improvement and quality assurance enable the Specialist to adapt digital assets to be responsive and functional. Through excellent working relationships with global and academic entity communicators, the Specialist seeks out impactful stories and generates multimedia content to effectively share them with various audiences including faculty, staff, students, alumni, partners, and donors.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversee and produce (film, edit, publish) compelling, relevant video content to enhance and grow AKU's digital presence.
    • Create an annual video production plan based on the organization's priorities.
    • Support entity communicators to create digital communication assets.
    • Regularly review trainings and training material that relates to the creation and evaluation of digital content.
    • Work with entity communicators to apply established processes to make the website more user-centric.
    • Mentor, support and train entity communicators to create high quality video content.
    • Create and manage processes and tools related to collecting, curating, cataloguing and retrieval of digital content.
    • Receive and review new asset requests, make recommendations, manage retrieval and delivery and consult on alternative solutions.
    • Align asset ingestion process, organization and maintenance of internal creative file systems in parallel to AKU's DAM.
    • Contribute frequent content to social media channels.
    • Support regular and frequent content changes on AKU's digital platforms.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, graphic design or equivalent from a recognized university, required.
    • 3-5 years’ relevant experience in journalism, communications, advertising/marketing, public relations or related field, required.
    • Experience with storytelling for digital and social platforms, required.
    • Strong knowledge and experience with editing software such as the Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, required.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills, required.
    • Experience in an academic or complex work environment, an asset.
    • Strong portfolio demonstrating a range of video projects and styles, an asset.
    • Experience in graphic design and audio-visual production is an added advantage.

    Storytelling & Content Specialist

    Job Summary

    This position is part of the global communications team whose mandate is to demonstrate the value and impact of AKU and, in so doing, building ambassadors and advocates for the organization among internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent of this role decides what stories to tell, through which print and digital channels and how to position them for maximum impact. The incumbent uses leading trends and communications best practice to amplify the University's priorities and showcase our community including staff, faculty, students, alumni, partners, and donors. The incumbent will also be responsible to evaluate the efficacy of the stories to determine target audience response and continuously improve processes and approaches to ensure stories are building AKU brand ambassadors. They will be a part of the Office of Strategic Communications working closely with entity communicators and freelancers to develop content for a variety of collateral ensuring that content is creative, accurate and aligned with AKU's overarching messaging.

    Responsibilities

    • Identifying and consulting stakeholders in developing appropriate communications collateral.
    • Developing university-wide processes and channels for finding AKU stories.
    • Working closely with the Senior Manager, Storytelling and Engagement, to populate the AKU website and social media channels with powerful, compelling stories.
    • Being proactive in incorporating human/storytelling components into collateral.
    • Serving as a spokesperson for AKU by deciding what stories to tell on which specific mediums (print and digital) and positioning them for maximum impact.
    • Using leading trends and best practice of communications to amplify the University's priorities and showcase our community.
    • Providing professional communicators with advice on their material including brochures, advertisements and event-related material.
    • Evaluating and tracking effectiveness of communications collateral, responding to the feedback and experience of stakeholders to continuously improve and benchmark with the global communications strategy.
    • Evaluating the efficacy of the stories to determine the response of target audience and continuously improve processes and approaches to ensure stories are building AKU brand ambassadors.
    • Evaluating event communication processes and results, making changes to improve over time.
    • Regularly evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of the stories and channels to ensure reach and impact (i.e., how the stories increase understanding of AKU's value and impact locally and globally and the extent to which the stories help to build and sustain brand ambassadors).
    • Support communications for selected AKU events, including developing event-specific key messages that are aligned with AKU priorities.
    • Identify storytelling opportunities to support key AKU events or campaigns.
    • Building and executing effective and dynamic internal and external communications campaigns.
    • Ensuring collateral is created thoughtfully and with a clear connection to strategy.
    • Collaborating with entity communications professionals to ensure consistency in messaging and strategy.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism or Public Relations from a recognized University.
    • A minimum of three to five years' experience in marketing, media relations, public relations or related field.
    • Demonstrated experience in writing content for various platforms, required.
    • Demonstrated experience with digital, print communications, creating successful communications plans, event management experience and experience in brand building.
    • Demonstrated experience with communications best practice, required.
    • Must be familiar with branding principles, stakeholder management, social media and content marketing.
