    Breeding Farm Manager

    PROFILE INTRODUCTION        

    Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Breeding Farm Manager to oversee and optimize the breeding operations at their farm. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in veterinary or animal husbandry, genetics, and farm management. They will be responsible for ensuring the health, productivity, and genetic diversity of breeding stock while managing a team of dedicated farm staff.

    Key Areas of Responsibility

    Breeding Program Management:

    • Develop and implement breeding strategies to improve the quality and genetic diversity of breeding stock.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of breeding activities, pedigrees, and performance data.
    • Monitor reproductive health and fertility rates of breeding animals.
    • Implement artificial insemination or natural mating processes as appropriate.

    Animal Health and Welfare:

    • Ensure the health and well-being of all animals in the breeding program.
    • Collaborate with veterinarians to develop and implement health protocols, including vaccination and disease prevention.
    • Identify and address any signs of illness or distress promptly.

    Staff Management:

    • Recruit, train, and supervise farm staff involved in breeding activities.
    • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular evaluations.
    • Foster a positive and productive work environment.

    Facility Management:

    • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of breeding facilities.
    • Ensure that all equipment and infrastructure are in good working order.
    • Manage the allocation of resources efficiently.

    Genetic Data Analysis:

    • Analyze breeding data to make informed decisions regarding genetic selection and improvement.
    • Keep up-to-date with industry trends and research related to breeding practices.

    Compliance and Regulations:

    • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to animal welfare and farming practices.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for audits and inspections.

    SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

    • Highly Organized.

    • Deep understanding of livestock management.
    • Strong commercial acumen.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • People management experience is mandatory.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
    • At least 8 years of Experience as a Farm Manager.
    • Proven 3 years’ experience in animal breeding and farm management.
    • Strong knowledge of genetics and breeding principles.
    • Proficiency in record-keeping and data analysis.
    • Financial literacy.
    • Knowledge of animal health and welfare best practices.
    • Experience with artificial insemination techniques is a plus.
    • Familiarity with agricultural regulations and compliance.

    Extension Officer - Data Collection

    PROFILE INTRODUCTION      

    We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated individual to join our organization as an Extension Officer. In this role, you will work closely with farmers, livestock owners, and agricultural communities to provide guidance, education, and support in animal husbandry practices. Your primary objective will be to improve animal health, productivity, and welfare through effective extension services and community engagement

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

    • Needs Assessment: Conduct surveys and assessments to identify the specific needs and challenges faced by farmers in animal husbandry. Collect and analyze data to gain insights into prevailing practices, identify gaps, and develop targeted extension interventions.
    • Farmer Education and Training: Organize workshops, training sessions, and demonstrations to educate farmers on best practices in animal husbandry. Train them on proper feeding techniques, disease prevention measures, breeding management, and other relevant topics to enhance their knowledge and skills.
    • Technical Support: Provide on-site technical assistance and guidance to farmers and livestock owners. Conduct farm visits to assess animal health, evaluate livestock management systems, and offer practical recommendations for improvement.
    • Collaboration and Networking: Establish and maintain effective relationships with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, veterinary professionals, research institutions, and farmer associations. Collaborate with these entities to access additional resources, share knowledge, and promote sustainable animal husbandry practices.
    • Information Dissemination: Develop educational materials, including brochures, fact sheets, and training manuals, to disseminate information on animal husbandry best practices. Utilize various communication channels, such as social media, websites, and community meetings, to reach a wide audience and ensure the accessibility of information.
    • Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the implementation and impact of extension programs and interventions. Collect and analyze data on adoption rates, behavior change, and animal health indicators to assess the effectiveness of the services provided. Use this information to refine and improve extension strategies.
    • Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of extension activities, including farmer profiles, training sessions, and outreach initiatives. Prepare regular reports summarizing the progress, achievements, and challenges encountered, and submit them to relevant supervisors or authorities.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in animal science, veterinary science, agriculture, or a related field.
    • Strong knowledge of animal husbandry principles, livestock management practices, and farm economics.
    • Experience in agricultural extension work or similar roles involving farmer engagement and education.
    • Familiarity with rural communities and the challenges faced by small-scale farmers in animal production.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and inspire diverse audiences.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good organizational and time management skills.
    • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
    • Knowledge of local regulations and policies related to animal husbandry and agriculture.
    • Willingness to travel to rural areas and work in challenging field conditions.
