    Real Estate & Construction Paralegal

    Roles and Responsibilities

    We are looking to recruit a high calibre Paralegal to join our Real Estate & Construction practice.

    In more detail, the areas of responsibility include:

    • Assisting lawyers to prepare standard transaction documentation for real estate matters.
    • Assisting in the preparation of completion document checklists, pre and post registration checklists and verifying that registry formalities have been executed correctly.
    • Analyzing transaction documents and confirming that the relevant formalities at each stage of the transaction have been completed.
    • Preparing correspondence relating to real estate matters.
    • Maintaining timely and accurate status reports on client matters.
    • Handling and promptly responding to queries from lawyers on the progress made on transactions.
    • Preparing stamp duty generation guides and other guides related to raising processes.
    • Preparing and issuing pre-approved instructions to the independent registry service providers, surveyors and other consultants.
    • Following up with the independent registry service providers, surveyors and other consultants.
    • Reviewing invoices from the independent registry service providers to ensure that they correspond with the approved instructions and purchase orders.
    • Assisting the lawyers to undertake any reconciliations on matters.
    • Assisting lawyers procure online company searches, land searches and other searches utilizing digital registry systems.
    • Filing documents in the relevant online document management platforms and assisting lawyers to manage virtual data rooms.
    • Assist in undertaking reconciliations and file closing procedures as may be instructed from time to time.
    • Perform other tasks as deemed appropriate by the firm.

    Experience and personal qualities

    • This role will require a detail-oriented, organized, and efficient person to support the lawyers.

    The following experience is preferred:

    • Must have a Diploma in law (Paralegal studies) from a recognised institution.
    • A minimum of at least two (2) years of relevant work experience of progressive working.
    • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Must be analytical, detail and result oriented individual.
    • Must have excellent computer skills and proficient in excel and word programmes.
    • Must have the ability to work within pre-agreed timelines and minimal supervision.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Good understanding of the legal profession.
    • Highly organised and good time management skills.

    Real Estate & Construction Associate Lawyer

    referencing this position A/REC/23

    Roles and Responsibilities

    We are looking to recruit a high calibre Associate to join our Real Estate & Construction practice. This individual should possess good knowledge of the real estate market and land legal system in Kenya.

    In more detail, the areas of responsibility include:

    • Working with other associates and/or assisting Senior Associates and Partners on real estate transactions including the sale and purchases and high value complex developments.
    • Producing good first drafts of a variety of documents relating to real estate transactions with minimal corrections from the Senior Associates and Partners.
    • Undertaking due diligence on real estate assets.
    • Undertaking accurate research and providing legal advice including preparation of legal opinions.
    • Assist in billing and file management.
    • Participate in preparation of departmental training materials and contribute towards A&K’s know how.
    • Participate in business development.

    Experience and personal qualities

    • Law Degree and an advocate of the High Court.
    • At least four (4) years’ experience post Kenya School of Law (KSL) qualification.
    • Ability to consult widely with other associates, Senior Associates and Partners on areas that need further guidance.
    • Ability to organise, prioritise and communicate progress to other team members including Senior Associates and Partners and assist in managing turnaround times and client needs.
    • Ability to run with matters with minimal supervision from Senior Associates and Partners.
    • Advanced critical and legal reasoning skills.
    • Creative decision making and problem-solving skills.
    • Keen eye for detail.
    • Actively work towards gaining a general understanding of the different legal areas and various sectors of the real estate market.
    • Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build long-standing relationships.
    • Proficient in the use of IT systems including Microsoft Office packages.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • A commitment to ALN’s mission and strong ethical integrity.
