    Countdown Liaison Officer

    The APHRC seeks to recruit a Countdown Liaison Officer to work in the Countdown to 2030 within the Global Financing Facility (GFF) secretariat. 

    Objectives

    • To strengthen the institutional linkages between GFF and Countdown to 2030, particularly with the African technical institutions part of the Countdown collaborations.
    • To facilitate active collaboration between GFF and Countdown to 2030, and uptake and use of Countdown-supported analytical outputs.
    • To strengthen the ability of the GFF to accelerate a program of work aiming to support countries to routinely estimate levels, trends and equity of coverage based on analysis of all relevant data sources.
    • Specific Responsibilities
    • To serve as a liaison and strengthen coordination and collaboration between Countdown to
    • 2030 and the GFF;
    • To facilitate communication and engagement between the African technical institutions participating in Countdown and the GFF, in a manner that helps strengthen the role of incountry and regional technical institutions within the GFF country engagement model (e.g., in support of Investment Case development and monitoring, including annual review of progress and quarterly meetings to follow through on issues identified and examine and use new data that have become available in the last quarter);
    • To serve as a ‘results buddy’ for specific countries within the GFF portfolio (to be chosen from among those with active Countdown engagements) to provide support to the Focal Point-led GFF country team on issues related to data and results measurement;
    • To lead a technical workstream within the GFF on supporting countries to routinely estimate levels, trends and equity of coverage of priority interventions across the RMNCAH-N continuum based on analysis of all relevant data sources, in collaboration with the Countdown technical
    • network; and
    • To contribute to the development of the repository of analytical tools and methods that Countdown is bringing together and to support uptake and use by GFF countries for improved analysis and use of RMNCAH-N data.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • PhD in Public Health, Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology, Population Sciences or other relevant areas; a minimum of 2 years’ post-doctoral experience.
    • Strong in either quantitative or qualitative analytical skills with a good working knowledge of the other.
    • Demonstrated experiences in health research, with peer-reviewed publications on the subject will be an added advantage.
    • Strong writing skills and good record of publications which utilize defined analytical methodologies.
    • Experience in developing proposals. Evidence of previous successful grants will be an advantage.
    • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to work in a culturally diverse team.
    • Experience working in sub-Saharan Africa.
    • Must be fluent in French and English.

    Post-Doctoral Research Scientists (2 Positions)

    Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the development of information systems and provision of analytical methodological support and advices to researchers;
    • Lead and contribute to proposal development and fundraising for research projects in the unit;
    • Provide statistical advice and support to researchers developing proposals and writing scientific papers;
    • Supervise and mentor junior staff to contribute to the design of proposals for grant applications, scientific writing analytical support and/or information systems development;
    • Supervise and mentor junior staff to conduct literature reviews;
    • Ensure the recruitment, training and supervision of field interviewers;
    • Oversee/lead development of field and training manuals;
    • Ensure ethical approvals and research permits are obtained;
    • Oversee fieldwork in the execution of the research projects to ensure timely implementation of field activities;
    • Ensure community mobilization and education of the community in relation to theresearch;
    • Contribute to the development of project reports;
    • Contribute to institutional publications including and not limited to lay dissemination materials such as policy/research briefs and fact sheets;
    • Contribute to policy engagement and the unit’s strategic planning;
    • Contribute to cultivation of relations with key institutional donors;
    • Represent the Center at high level national, regional and international forums, including relevant technical working groups and expert committees; and
    • Define own area of research interest through developing proposals, concept notes and publishing in the area.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • PhD in Demography, Populations Studies, Public Health, Sociology, Statistics, Data Science, Econometrics, or equivalent in related disciplines.
    • Have 2 years’ of relevant post-doctoral experience.
    • Strong writing skills and good record of publications, which utilize defined analytical methodologies.
    • Experience in developing proposals; evidence of previous successful grants will be an advantage.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing research projects, including experience in conducting, coordinating and managing surveys.
    • Proven experience in conducting desk reviews.
    • Strong quantitative skills (managing, analyzing and interpreting data), with good familiarity with quantitative statistical packages (e.g. STATA, R).

    Program Administrative Assistant

    The APHRC seeks to recruit a Program Administrative Assistant to provide administrative support to the Health and Wellbeing Program within the Research Division.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage the Program Leader’s office and respond to queries in his/her absence;
    • Schedule appointments for the Program Leader and other members of the team as necessary;
    • Manage meetings of the program, including preparing documentation and taking minutes as necessary;
    • Identify action points during meetings and follow up with the concerned parties to ensure accomplishment;
    • Maintain an effective record and filing system for contracts, project activities, correspondences, and documents for quick and easy reference;
    • Provide support in preparation and formatting of contracts and reports;
    • Assist in proposal development process taking responsibility for administrative sections of proposals developed and ensuring all application requirements are met;
    • Manage conference and workshop logistics by preparing draft budgets, making travel and hotel bookings, sending invitations, preparing workshop materials and arranging for per diems and other reimbursements;
    • Maintain grant reporting requirements and schedules in the Project Management System (PMS) and follow-up on project reports to ensure submission by due dates; and
    • Help in monitoring project implementation including review of burn rates on the online
    • management accounting system.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Diploma in Business Administration or related field.
    • At least 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in a busy office environment, preferably in an INGO, research organization or large research program.
    • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
    • Good oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of French will be a plus.
    • Good planning, financial and organizational skills.
    • Ability to assess priorities and manage competing demands with minimum supervision.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Experience working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment.
