    Quality & Assurance Officer

    TNH/HRD/QAO/22/11/2023

    This role is responsible for implementing, maintaining and updating the Hospital’s Quality, Food Safety, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety (QESH) Programmes. The job holder is further responsible for planning and executing the effectiveness, of quality activities/systems in the Hospital

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Reporting to the Head of Risk Compliance, the Officer shall be responsible for the following tasks amongst others:-

    • Maintain all documentation related to Quality, Environment, Food Safety, Occupational Health and Safety Programmes in the hospital;
    • Plan and facilitate documentation of quality objectives, environmental aspects, environmental management plans and objectives in departments;
    • Track progress in implementation of quality, environment, food safety, occupational health and safety objectives in departments;
    • Liaise with HODs and ensure that the departmental polices and other standard operating procedures are reviewed and approved appropriately and the hospital repository is updated;
    • Develop quality systems training and awareness schedule for departments to facilitate continual quality improvement with International standards for excellence in healthcare services;
    • Conduct/ review food safety hazard analysis along the food chain and document pre-requisite programs, operational prerequisite programs and critical control points including monitoring systems;
    • Ensure legal and statutory compliance by conducting EMS & OHS legal/ statutory evaluation and address the emerging/ identified gaps;
    • Organize and facilitate quality systems internal audits by documenting preparations, assignments schedules and notifications;
    • Design and review on continuous basis EMS, food safety, occupational health and safety inspections checklists;
    • Plan and execute EMS, food safety, occupational health and inspections in departments;
    • Work closely with HODs to ensure their department’s QEOHS requirements are in place;
    • Participate in Quality, environment, food safety and occupational health and safety accidents/ incidents, dangerous occurrences investigations and document findings;
    • Ensure that all internal and external Quality, Environment, Health and Safety communication materials are in place and conforming;
    • Collate findings and document quality systems audit reports;
    • Identify, interpret and communicate the standards as applicable to the hospital and to each functional level;
    • Facilitate the documentation (manuals, policies, procedures/SOPs, work instructions, protocols, guidelines, objectives etc.) requirements as indicated in the standards (Quality MS 9001-2015, Environmental MS 14001-2015, Food SMS 22000- 2018, Joint CIA – 6th edition, OSHA-2007);
    • Distribute and disseminate the updated procedures as and when necessary;
    • Plan for, conduct, report on and make follow ups of audits (Internal and external) inspections also internal and external, and patient safety tracers;
    • Maintain all certification schedules for accreditation, re-accreditation and internal audits
    • Ensure regulatory occupational health and safety risk assessments, fire audits, health and safety audits and incidents/accident reports to DOHSS;
    • Participate in drills to tests hospital emergency plans and identify improvement needs; and
    • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned to the job holder by the supervisor from time to time.

    QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: -

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies or Bachelor of Science in Environment or any other relevant field from a recognized institution.
    • Must be a qualified ISO Quality systems implementer and auditor and have Gemma kaizen training.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience preferably in quality systems (QMS, EMS, FSMS & OHS).

    Risk and Compliance Officer

    REF: TNH/HRD/RCOO/12/2023

    Reporting to Head of Risk & Compliance, the successful applicants will be responsible for providing technical and operational support in identifying, analysing and measuring various types of risks in the Hospital’s operations and make appropriate risk mitigation recommendations in accordance with the Hospital’s policies, procedures and guidelines.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    •  Participate in developing the annual work program for Risk and Compliance and implement the approved action plan.
    •  Participate in the development and upgrading of the Hospital’s Risk identification and assessment methodologies.
    •  Conduct operational and process risk analysis in the Hospital’s nonclinical operational areas as per the Hospital’s Policies, Procedures and guidelines.
    •  Identify and measure possible strategic, financial, compliance and operational risks of the Hospital based on aggregate measures of business activity such as gross revenue, fee income, operating costs, managed assets or total assets adjusted for offbalance sheet exposures, etc.
    •  Analyse the risks including the potential loss arising from internal activities or external events caused by break down of information, communication, physical safeguard, business continuity, etc.
    •  Perform tests and checks to monitor conformity with operational and process risk methodologies and standards as well as monitor effectiveness of internal control systems.
    •  Assess and review the business continuity program of the Nairobi Hospital including ensuring critical processes are identified and Business Continuity measures are instituted, reviewed from time to time and working.
    •  Develop a compliance framework and ensure the hospital complies to regulatory requirements, best practice guidelines and its internal policies.
    •  Assist in investigations of process events and the preparation of reports including identification of systematic root causes and themes for escalation to the Head of Risk & Compliance.
    •  Aggregate and analyse risk events reported by the business units.
    •  Assist in identification of key risk indicators in different business units, as well as in formulation of action plans to address any gaps.
    •  Assist in development of operational risk registers for each department.
    •  Assist in investigations involving employees that are suspected of or have been involved in unethical behaviour, fraud, or other illegal activities against the Hospital or in relation to their work.
    •  Prepare training materials in operational and process risk.
    •  Provide assistance in conducting trainings on operational and process risk.
    •  Ensure that tasks are completed to the agreed standards within the agreed time scales; and
    •  Any other responsibilities that may be assigned to the job holder by the supervisor from time to time.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    •  Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Information Technology, Law, Accounting, or Banking from a reputable University.
    •  Professional certification in Risk Management; Institute of Risk Management (UK) certification, Financial Risk Management (FRM), RCP Level 3, Chartered Risk Analyst (CRA) or a Governance Risk and Compliance Management (GRCM) is an added advantage.
    •  Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
    •  An understanding of the clinical operations of the Hospital will be an added advantage.

    Hospital Perfusionist

    REF: TNH/HRD/HP/12/2023

    The overall purpose of this job is to attend to patients through clinical diagnosis acumen in line established protocols and the hospital’s patient care objectives.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    •  Performs duties to support cardiopulmonary bypass; maintains and demonstrates competency in the performance of all responsibilities.
    •  Appropriate choice and use of disposable and heart-lung machine equipment and safety devices for the performance of CPB.
    •  Appropriate maintenance, according to hospital practice guidelines, of the patient's physiological parameters/variables during CPB.
    •  Prepares for surgery by assembling extracorporeal circuit, including connecting tubing, oxygenators, pumps and filters. Primes and de-bubbles circuit.
    •  Prepares, administers and monitors flow of prescribed solutions and medications including circuit prime, cardioplegia, and blood products used during procedures requiring extracorporeal support.
    •  Develops perfusion care plan and calculates appropriate perfusion formulae to be communicated during preoperative briefing.
    •  Manages extracorporeal circuits to achieve conditions ordered by surgeon, including CPB,deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA), coronary perfusion, veno-venous bypass, or partial bypass.
    •  Maintains supply of blood in system and makes any adjustments needed to achieve conditions specified by surgeon or anaesthesiologist, such as changes in blood temperature, oxygen/carbon dioxide ratio in blood, or patients’ electrolytes.
    •  Receives and interprets blood gas values and assesses adequacy of perfusion. Adjusts and monitors heart-lung machine settings according to clinical practice guidelines for CPB.
    •  Monitors and maintains anticoagulation according to clinical practice guidelines for CPB.
    •  Disassembles extracorporeal circuits and mechanical components of the heart/lung machine and cleans all non-disposable items and disposes of contaminated materials.
    •  Records, updates and maintains permanent records of all cardiovascular bypass procedures.
    •  Participates in emergency operation of intra-aortic balloon pump during cardiac procedures.
    •  Prepares and manages extracorporeal support for complex vascular surgery, including descending aortic aneurysm repair.
    •  Prepares and manages blood conservation systems.
    •  Prepares and manages extracorporeal membrane oxygenation circuits for veno-arterial and veno-venous support.
    •  Maintains a working knowledge of appropriate equipment and strategies utilized for complex cardiothoracic and vascular surgery.
    •  Prepares and manages para-corporeal ventricular assist devices for patients requiring temporary ventricular support.
    •  Should be ready to support the hospitals’ ECMO service as required.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    •  Bachelor degree from a recognized institution.
    •  Diploma from a Medical training College (basic)
    •  Certificate/Diploma in Perfusion Technology (Sub-speciality)
    •  Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    •  (Two) 2 years on the job perfusion training experience in a university teaching hospital.
    •  Certificates in: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Intra-aortic balloon pump, Biomedical pump, Auto transfusion
    •  Demonstrates expert knowledge in normal heart function and the various diseases that afflict the heart.
