    Individual Contractor: Project Team Assistant

    Purpose of the assignment

    The purpose of the assignment is to: a) assist with the coordination and implementation of activities under the 2021 PLEAD work plan; b) provide administrative support including procurement, preparation for workshops and trainings; and c) contribute to the development of new project proposals and drafting of various project reports.

    Specific tasks to be performed by the contractor

    Under the overall supervision of the Regional Representative and direct supervision of the Head of the Criminal Justice Programme UNODC ROEA, and within the framework of the UNODC project 'Strengthening the Administration of Justice and operationalising alternatives to imprisonment in Kenya' (PLEAD) the contractor will perform the following tasks:

    • Support the substantive work of PLEAD Programme;
    • Conduct research on crime prevention and criminal justice issues;
    • Assist in the planning of the PLEAD Programme's activities, such as meetings, workshops, on-line conferences and trainings, as well as draft reports and minutes;
    • Contribute to the preparation of background documents, presentations, summaries, talking points and speeches;
    • Support interventions relating to integration of ICT and case management systems within the criminal justice sector.
    • Support administrative matters relating to the organization of meetings, trainings and conferences;
    • Support arrangements for field missions;
    • Support the monitoring of criminal justice sector trends and profiling developments for appraisal of the team for further implementation;
    • Support to consultants and Programme Officers in the development of policy documents, through research, administration of surveys and field visits.
    • Support procurement activities (eg drafting of terms of reference);
    • Support of the development of fact sheets, newsletters, reports and other communication materials highlighting PLEAD and the work of UNODC ROEA;
    • Contribute and coordinate social media content to raise visibility of PLEAD;

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Academic Qualifications: A high school diploma is required.

    Experience:

    •  Minimum of two years of work experience in criminal justice, law or related areas is required.
    •  Working experience in an international organization or the United Nations system would be desirable.

    Education

    • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
    • Certification in supply chain management such as SCOR-P, CIPS (Level 4) or equivalent is desirable.

    Job - Specific Qualification

    • Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite, i.e. is required, for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application.
    • The GGST is a proctored entry-level examination at the duty station. Any travel expenses incurred in order to take the examination are the responsibility of the candidate and will not be reimbursed by the Organization.
    • Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test [in English] at the United Nations headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International criminal tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in procurement, contracts management, administration or related area is required.
    • Work experience in identifying vendors and working with vendor databases is required.
    • Work experience in procurement and contract management within the United Nations system or similar international organization is desirable.
    • Work experience with an ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning) system is required.
    • Work experience with SAP (System, Applications & Products)/Umoja is desirable.
    • Work experience in procurement, contract management and equipment delivery in the region is desirable.

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official United Nations language is desirable.
