    Librarian Assistant

     

    Qualifications for the Librarian Assistant Job

    For appointment to this grade a candidate must be in possession of;

    • KCSE with a minimum grade of C- (Minus)
    • Minimum KNEC Certificate in Library and Information Sciences.
    • Experience in use of IT in Library operations in an academic library is mandatory.
    • Have one (1) year experience preferably in an educational institution.
    • Be below 35 years

    Responsibilities for the Librarian Assistant Job

    • Lend and collect books, periodicals, videotapes, and other materials at circulation desk
    • Sort books, publications, and other items according to established procedure and return them to shelves, files , or other designated storage areas.
    • Inspect returned books for condition and due-date status, and compute any applicable fines.
    • Provide assistance to librarians in the maintenance of collections of books, periodicals, magazines, newspaper, and audiovisual and other materials.
    • Catalogue all new information materials to ensure that they are well placed in the shelves for ease accessibility by the users
    • Classify books and material on the shelf and reference for easy retrieval by library users
    • Track all the enquiries received in the institution by post, email, personal visit and by telephone in consultation with the Librarian
    • Responsible to open and close the library as per operational guidelines at the institution

    • KCSE Certificate
    • Diploma in Agriculture or above
    • At least 3 years working experience in a large farm for both crop and animal
    • Be between 35 years and 45 years

    Responsibilities for the Farm Manager Job

    • Planning finances and production based on budget parameters
    • Maintaining and monitoring the quality of yield whether livestock or crops
    • Understanding the implications of the weather and making contingency plans
    • Ensuring that farm operates within current government regulations and policies

    Responsibilities for the Science Technician Job

    • Set up and dismantle apparatus and equipment for demonstration and practical lessons, as requested and detailed by teaching staff
    • Run trials of experiments prior to classes and then demonstrate techniques for experiments to the trainees to ensure the practical session runs smoothly
    • Perform demonstrations and provide technical support to the trainees during the practical
    • Maintain laboratory inventory and ensure that all the required equipment and chemicals are available for use when required
    • Requisition laboratory consumable to ensure they are replenished in atimely manner to ensure laboratory operations run smoothly
    • Maintain safety storage of laboratory chemicals and equipment to prevent incidences of accidents in the laboratory
    • Prepare a maintenance schedule for all laboratory equipment for approval by the section head to ensure that all laboratory equipment are in good working condition.
    • Ensure safe disposal of laboratory waste as per the occupational safety and health standards
    • Observe and ensure health and safety procedures are practiced and enforced and all accidents are reported to the section head.
    • Advise the section head on the budgeting requirement for the laboratory to ensure that all the laboratory requirement are factored in the budget t promote smooth trainings
    • Maintain all requisite record on the use of various laboratory equipment and chemicals for accountability and future reference
    • Segregate non-functional equipment and machine to ensure safety in the laboratory and ensure they are disposed per the safety disposal guideline
    • Report any breakdown of equipment to the section head for purposes of decision making on replacements
    • Supervise cleaning of the laboratory and equipment therein to ensure efficient operation of the laboratory
    • Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments that will save on time and improve reliability
