    Mespt - Board Of Trustee - Chairperson

    The Company

    Micro Enterprises Support Programme Trust (MESPT) was established in the year 2002 with the aim of supporting the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises by providing integrated business solutions for sustainable development to promote economic growth, employment creation and poverty alleviation through support to enterprises.

    MESPT works with intermediaries that provide financial or business development services to improve the performance of enterprises. The aim is to strengthen financial intermediaries in order to establish a strong, stable, market-based micro-finance sector in Kenya.

    The Trust is a multi-donor entity jointly founded by the Government of Kenya and the European Union who relinquished their position to the Royal Danish Embassy in Kenya, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DANIDA).

    MESPT’s vision is to be the leading and preferred provider of resources for the development of enterprises and is anchored on three pillars: Green Growth, Enterprise development and Value chain development.

    MESPT is currently is looking for qualified and competent person to take up the role of a Chairperson for the Board. This role will be responsible for the provision of strategic leadership and management of the board and oversee all matters pertaining finance and governance of MESPT.

    Roles & Responsibilities

    • Ensure that the Board plays a full and constructive part in the development and determination of the MESPT’s strategy, programme priorities and associated policies in liaison with the MESPT management team
    • Ensure that strategic priorities and programmes are implemented effectively and efficiently by the MESPT programme teams at a governance level in liaison with the MESPT Board and management team
    • Provide leadership and governance to the Board and drive its effectiveness by ensuring that all key and appropriate issues and decisions are discussed and effected in an efficient and timely manner
    • Collaborate with relevant Board evaluation teams to ensure that the performance of the Board of Trustees, including individual performance, is evaluated and continuous improvement measures implemented in line with leading corporate governance standards

    Requirements

    • The successful candidate must have at least fifteen years relevant work experience and ten years’ experience serving on a Board is required. Experience serving as past Chair in a similar organization will be an added advantage.
    • S/he should have a Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Accounting or any other equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized university.
    • The candidate must have undergone training in Corporate Governance and other related courses from recognized professional bodies.
    • S/he should have demonstrate leadership experience and his/ her achievements in managing Boards, Management and various institutional stakeholders.

    Board Trustee Member - Finance

    This role will be responsible for the provision of strategic leadership in all matter pertaining finance and ensuring high quality services to the Trust. Further, the Board Trustee Member will be responsible for advising on financial risks that pose as a threat to the Trust and providing sound judgement on how to address them.

    Roles & Responsibilities

    • Provide an advisory role to the Board in the formulation of the Trust’s financial budget and oversee the prudent utilisation of funds on different projects within the Trust;
    • Participate in the development of the Trust’s strategy in order to ensure alignment of the finance function with the Trust and its overall strategy;
    • Advise on areas that will provide significant financial efficiency and effectiveness gains across all departments within the Trust;
    • Advise on the development of annual, medium-term and long–term financial plans;
    • Provide input into the development of models and systems that produce financial projections monthly, quarterly, annual and periodically and that monitor and ensure satisfactory financial performance of the Trust;
    • Review the financial risk management framework, vulnerability assessment and provide continuously input in the existing internal controls;

    Requirements

    • The successful candidate must have at least ten years’ experience, previous experience serving on a Board is required.
    • S/he should have a Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Accounting or any other equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized university.
    • The candidate must be a Certified Public Accountant or a member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) or have similar qualifications from other recognized professional bodies.
    • Must have strong understanding of, and experience in working with, reporting standards such as IFRS and GAAP, and have working knowledge of IPMAS.
    • Maintains effective relationships with stakeholders and staff alike.

    Board Trustee Member - Organisation Change Management

    The role will be responsible for providing advice to the board on all matters regarding change and process management initiative within the trust.

    Roles & Responsibilities

    Oversee the development of change management strategies, plans for stakeholder identification, sponsorship management and trainings;
    Provide strategic leadership support in the development of policies, standards, and controls in assessing MESPT effectiveness;
    Provide strategic oversight role in the process of identifying human and organizational risks, and develop plans to mitigate these risks;

    Requirements

    • The successful candidate must have at least fifteen years relevant work experience and ten years serving on a Board is required.
    • S/he should have a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Strategic Management or any other equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized university.
    • Excellent communication both written and verbal.
    • Ability to manage assigned tasks in an assertive, efficient and timely manner.
    • Proven ability to deal with confidential matters and with discretion.
