    Kenya Utalii College (KUC) is a leading African hospitality and tourism training institution. Established 47 years ago the College has trained over 60,000 graduates from around the world who continue to serve in the local and international hospitality and tourism industry. The College opened its doors in 1975 and was established under the Hotels and Restaurants Act, (Cap. 494, Laws of Kenya) which has since been replaced by the Tourism Act, 2011.     Chief Maintenance Officer

    Division: Administration

    Scale: D3

    Reports To: Principal

    Terms Of Service: Permanent

    Responsibilities

    • Ensuring that foremen execute tasks within reasonable time to ensure effective operations
    • Carrying out staff training for capacity building
    • Developing periodic reports to inform on projects progress
    • Ensuring that approved budget is properly for projects allocated
    • Working with other departments in drawing technical specifications for machinery purchase
    • Ensuring effective energy management programmes to minimize on utility bill costs
    • Involves checking, repairing and servicing machinery, equipment, systems and infrastructures
    • Ensuring that industrial machinery and equipment runs smoothly and reliably
    • Carrying out installation of new and modern equipment and facilities in the institution to enhance efficient energy use and provision of optimum services
    • Fault diagnosis of equipment to determine the remedy
    • Carrying out periodic and preventive maintenance to ensure these facilities and utilities provide optimum service

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or its equivalent
    • Five (5) year’s working experience, three (3) of which must be in a supervisory position
    • A member of professional body
    • A supervisory course lasting not less than three (3) weeks
    • Meets the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
    • Demonstrated results in work performance

    Research Officer

    Division: Administrative

    Scale: Grade D1

    Reports To: Director Of Research & Strategy

    Terms Of Service: Permanent

    Job Responsibilities

    • Preparing analytical reports on topical research interest areas
    • Liaising with other departments, Universities, Private institutions, and Government organizations to collate pertinent information
    • Participating in professional research activities and analysis
    • Provide general interpretation, explanation and analysis through written reports
    • Maintaining a periodically updated inventory of research publications
    • Proposal writing and mobilization of funds for research

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics or Statistics or its equivalent. A Master’s Degree in Economics or Statistics or its equivalent will be an added advantage
    • Must have thorough knowledge of Statistics and Business analysis tools
    • Must have undertaken a course in Research Methodology
    • Proven professional competence in Research and Consultancy work
    • Five (5) years relevant working experience.

    Sales & Marketing Manager

    Divison: Hotel

    Scale: Grade C1

    Reports To: General Manager

    Terms Of Service: Permanent

    Job Responsibilities

    • Organizing marketing campaigns to promote product awareness
    • Innovation of new products to attract additional clients and increase market share
    • Monitoring and advising on marketing trends and competition through conducting market surveys to analyse competition in the market and inform pricing of products and services offered by the institution
    • Ensuring performance targets are met by the sales and marketing executive to generate income to the institution
    • Preparation of and presentation of proposals to potential clients to provide information on the organization’s products and services
    • Reviewing comments from customers on the products and services and taking corrective action to ensure customer retention

    Requirements

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Sales and Marketing from a recognized institution
    • Five (5) years’ working experience, three (3) of which must be in a supervisory position
    • A supervisory course lasting not less than three (3) weeks
    • A member of the Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK)

    Printing Superintendent

    Division: Administration

    Reports To: Director Of Research & Strategy

    Job Responsibilities

    • General supervision of the operations of the printing Department
    • Advising the College on all matters pertaining to printing
    • Preparation and implementation of the Printing Department’s strategic plan, work plan, procurement plans and the Annual performance Contract Targets and monitoring their implementations
    • Supervision and appraisal of staff in the department

    Requirements

    • National Diploma in Printing or its equivalent from a recognized training institution plus at least seven (7) years relevant working experience in a reputable organization, two (2) of which must be at a similar position

    • Assisting the Chef to co-ordinate with Stores to ensure availability of the required food supplies
    • Ensuring compliance with food hygiene and health and safety standards
    • Preparing food menu recipes to the best standards to satisfy customers
    • Updating and guiding the cooks on preparation of menu recipes and production quality foods
    • Reviewing comments from the customers on the products and services and take necessary action

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Art or its equivalent
    • Certificate in Food Production
    • Certificate in HACCP
    • Five (5) years’ experience, three (3) years of which as a Chef de partie in a three (3)star Hotel

    Pastry Chef

    Division: Business Development

    Reports To: Hospitality Manager

    Terms Of Service: Contract

    Job Responsibilities

    • Managing all day-to-day operations of the pastry and bakery section of the kitchen
    • Preparing a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread, etc. following traditional and modern recipes
    • Developing, designing or creating new ideas and items for the pastry kitchen
    • Creating new and exciting desserts to renew hotel’s menus and engaging the interest of customers
    • Ensuring excellent quality throughout the dessert offerings
    • Supervising and co-ordinating all pastry and dessert preparation and presentation
    • Checking the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met
    • Assisting in determining how food should be presented and creating decorative food displays
    • Monitoring stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar and making appropriate orders within budget
    • Checking quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking
    • Reporting all equipment problems and maintenance issues, known safety hazards, or unsafe practices and procedures to supervisor immediately
    • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
    • Ensuring compliance with food hygiene and health and safety standards

    Requirements
