    Assistant ICT Officer

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The purpose of this position is to provide technical support in Information Technology to staff in the region through installation, establishment, maintenance, usage and update of new technology and Software for data processing and communication and application in the Dadaab and other camps.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

    • Provide Network Management
      • Design, develop and maintain Computer networks.
      • Update software e.g. antivirus and apply patches on operating systems and office applications
      • Trouble shooting and providing preventive maintenance services on the ICT equipment for Dadaab DMO and Camps
      • Manage information security by continuously backing up information and applying the appropriate anti virus software
      • Work with ICT coordinator in evaluating the ICT systems on a continuous basis
      • Provide technical advisory services in relation to new or appropriate technology for office use
      • Work with ICT coordinator and individual departments in processing ICT budgets
      • Maintain inventory of ICT equipment for DMO, IFO, Dagahley and Hagardera camps.
      • Liaise with vendors on ICT equipment repair, raise PRs for approvals by ICT coordinator
    • Provide Help Desk Support to all Users
      • Provide technical support for staff in the use of computers, software and other communication of the equipment
      • Providing support in the use of ICT equipment for presentations
      • Troubleshoot software and hardware at Dadaab DMO and Camps
      • Help in giving specifications for new ICT equipments to be purchased for Dadaab field Office and camps
      • Advice users on IT best practice on issues of ICT equipment, internet and email usage
      • Identify ICT equipments that needs replacements
    • Database Management & Administration
      • Maintain high availability on the client side for Scala database systems and Internet/Intranet/Email to users
      • Provide backup support to Financial Systems (Scala) and other major databases.
      • Run systems off-line information back-ups and manage the off-site storage.
      • Responsible for Scala user creations, access controls and ensures data integrity and maximum uptime
    • Provide Computer Training to Users
      • Training staff on need basis on the various relevant ICT applications
      • Work with the ICT coordinator to prepare annual training calendar
      • Prepare training manuals and guidelines and IT Tips to users.
      • Assist the ICT Coordinator in Administration of
    • LTK Fiber & Safaricom WIMAX (Troubleshooting Both links in liaison with the internet service providers and Monitor bandwidth utilization using bandwidth monitoring devices in place. Perform Security Management of firewalls and routers)
    • Mail Server (Create and delete users on the Mail server, give rights to Staff to access shared resources on LAN, perform a daily data backup for Staff Mail Database and shared folders.)
      • Any other duty assigned by supervisor
    • Whenever applicable, the holder is required to perform any other job related to his work

    • Supervise communications masts servicing

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    The position is based at Dadaab Main Office (DMO) with frequent movements to Hagadera, IFO and Dagahaley camps as well as any other extension camps and program sites. This is a none-family working station. Hot weather is prevalent throughout the year with limited basic amenities. Road movement to and from work station to Garissa, as well as, inter-camp movement must be under police escort (Scheduled convoys). The incumbent must strictly adherence to security instructions all the time. It is a six days work station with a compensatory time off according to CTO policy. The incumbent may to travel to Nairobi office occasionally to perform official responsibilities as will be required

    The incumbent shall reside in the CARE compound while executing official duties and shall obey and adhere to residential compound regulations.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Degree in IT/Computer Science or related field from a recognized institution
    • At least 2 years working experience in an IT positions in a busy environment
    • CCNA certificate is an added advantage
    • Competencies: Able to work under harsh, risk and extreme conditions, good judgment and problem solver.

    JOB SUMMARY & PURPOSE:

    Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, the primary role of the Auto Electrician is repairing and servicing fleet booked into the workshop for both auto electric and mechanical tasks, diagnosing faults finding on the fleet and determining the extent of repairs required. Stripping, fitting and replacing components on fleet of various makes, types and kinds. She/he shall undertake inspections, repairs and routine preventative maintenance for fleet in Dadaab region and ensure that all vehicles, plant and equipment meet or exceed set repair and maintenance standards.

    The emphasis on quality control and customer centered attitude will be the hallmarks of her/his day to day work. She/he will be required to comply with the Workshop Standard Operating Procedures, Internal Control Procedures and CARE’ Kenya’s vehicle operation & maintenance management policy.

    TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Preventive and breakdown maintenance of motor vehicles and equipment
      • Carry out the mechanical/electrical preventive maintenance and repair of vehicles, plant and equipment including but not limited to Isuzu trucks, 4x4 vehicles, tractors, agro - trailers, backhoe loaders, and heavy vehicles of various makes, types and models.
      • Prepare vehicles/equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters.
      • Carry out all vehicles and equipments electrical repairs and system installations including and not limited to vehicles tracking system, communication systems, speed limit governors and electrical gadgets.
      • Service and maintain all mobile air Conditioning systems and other related accessories.
      • Maintain vehicles in functional conditions by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing transmissions, differentials, hydraulic pumps malfunctions; replacing parts and components and computerized vehicle gadgets, air brakes, electronic fuel injection (EFI) and mobile air conditioner systems.
      • Maintain vehicle records by recording service and repairs while ensuring they are signed before handing over the documents to supervisor.
      • Verify vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
      • To rescue breakdown vehicles in the field and provide defect reports on the root cause and actions taken into the breakdown.
      • Carry out repairs and maintenance of agricultural equipment and modifications to suit our operational needs.
      • Request for spare parts and other necessary sundries/consumables; requisitions must be approved by the supervisor.
      • Take responsibility of approved spares and work in progress for intended purpose.
      • Get the repair of vehicles/equipments first time right away to avoid down time and repeat work.
      • Account for all tools and equipments assigned to or on temporary request.
    • Safety precautions and quality control
      • To consistently deliver high quality repairs in the required timeframes, which will ensure clients’ needs and requirements are met.
      • To ensure that all electrical appliances are turned off in the evening before closing for the day.
      • To complete all work orders and record all additional repairs and parts and ensure that a checklist has been performed.
      • Ensure workshop safety rules and procedures are followed, including designating highly flammable substances and use of right tools and equipments.
      • Complies with statutory regulations of vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
      • Observe and implement NEMA environmental laws concerning the handling of hazardous materials routinely used in fleet service operations.
      • Observe Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and fleet policies and procedures pertaining to the safe performance of fleet service operations.
      • To segregate used parts before disposal.
      • Maintains vehicle/equipment appearance by cleaning and washing.
      • Protect exposed sensitive sensors during engine/operating unit/components cleaning.
    • Mechanical and electrical diagnosis and interpretation of repair manuals
      • Interpret instructions, technical manuals (manual/digital), illustrations, specifications, diagrams, schematics and other guides in conducting repairs and modifications.
      • Keeps workshop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; performing preventive maintenance; inform supervisor of any pending repairs.
      • Skilled usage of measuring instruments and test equipment such as engine analyzers, injector testers, ignition timers, lactometers, ammeters, ohmmeters etc.
      • Ensure proper use of vehicle computer-controlled diagnostic machine on engine, fuel and ignition, ABS braking and transmission systems.

    Supervision: 1 Assistant mechanic

    DecisionMaking: Makes normal decision on the effective performance of job responsibilities.

    • Experience: Demonstrate experience of at least 3 years in repairs and maintenance of vehicles and equipments especially 4WD and tractors in the automotive field. Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated Multi skilling in Mechanics, Auto Electrics/electronics, welding and fabrication works a great Advantage.
    • Certificate: Computer literate with good knowledge of MS office.
