    Business Development Manager - East Africa

    This Role

    PayJoy is hiring a Business Development Manager in East Africa who can help us scale the business. The right candidate will be a talented and ambitious leader, looking for a high-growth opportunity at a high-impact startup, while also deeply motivated by and aligned with PayJoy’s mission to empower the next billion smartphone users.

    As BD Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and executing strategic business plans to attract potential partners, retain existing ones, build new business models and strategic partnerships in Kenya and parts of East Africa. To be successful in this role, you must be entrepreneurial, competitive in nature, self driven, ambitious and a creative thinker with an engaging personality.

    Requirements

    • A strong go getter willing to act and respond quickly to ever evolving market dynamics.
    • Specific areas of expertise should include: Negotiations skills, business modeling, presentations, and new business development.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate and relate to subjects, issues and clients at many levels.
    • Intimate understanding of traditional and emerging marketing channels in the technology, fintech and telecommunications industries.

    Responsibilities

    • Grow the existing Smartphone Financing and SaaS products in Kenya and specific parts of East Africa.
    • Formulate strategies supported by creative problem-solving for both PayJoy and partners.
    • Develop relationship and grow existing and new partners in both businesses.
    • Work with Operations to ensure successful execution of the projects.
    • Be able to simplify and synthesize complex structures to communicate value effectively.
    • Should be open to fully take on ad hoc projects.
    • Travel within your market and support PayJoy accounts to grow existing business.
    • Consult with partners on use of PayJoy marketing, branding and merchandising to ensure proper positioning of PayJoy.
    • Nurture strong relationships with the home office team and partners.
    • Be adaptive as needed to support internal and external customers needs.

    Skills And Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or similar.
    • At least 2+ years of proven experience business development, client relationship management, consulting services, and similar fields.
    • Self-directed and motivated with demonstrated leadership skills.
    • Fluency in English and Spanish. Portuguese also a plus.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills that can be tailored to deal with customers, store partners, and enterprise partners. Spanish and English fluency required.
    • Strong alignment with PayJoy’s mission and a passion for helping underserved communities.
    • Experience with telecommunications, retail, micro-loans, payments, and/or financial service industries preferred.

    Technical Program Manager - East Africa

    This role

    You will define and own release schedules in our fast-paced environment and work closely with software engineers, product managers, sales managers and external partners to get high-quality products and new features built, tested, and released on time. You will coordinate lots of fast-changing, moving parts and still get them to come together as a product. You'll need excellent communication skills to be the go-to person for all questions about release schedules, quality, and progress updates. You will be responsible for identifying and managing risks, making sound judgments about quality, and stopping (or speeding up) delivery at the right time.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage technical projects or programs, working closely with PayJoy engineers, sales, and technical staff to develop and track release milestones and schedules for the many moving parts that need to come together.
    • Work closely with customers to define needs and develop project plans throughout all stages of the project.
    • Manage communication of progress within the core team and external stakeholders (customers, partners, etc.) and escalate issues as necessary.
    • Assess the quality of releases through monitoring of incoming bugs and code changes to identify quality issues and trends.
    • Develop templates and processes to improve software engineering productivity.
    • Work closely with Product teams to turn compliance-related initiatives into tangible projects which you will own.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BA/BS degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • 5 years of experience as a program or engineering manager managing software projects.
    • 1 years of experience as a practicing engineer in a relevant technical domain.
    • Minimum 2 years project management experience, including interactions with customers.
    • Experience working with external technical partners; should include delivery and driving acceptance of software projects.
    • Strong communication skills (all types) to lead and influence project teams and clients.
    • Strong organizational skills, including good time management skills as well as ability and comfort interacting with all levels of management.

    Desirable Qualifications

    • PMP or related certification.
    • 6 years of relevant work experience, including 4 years of industry experience in managing large, complex projects.
    • First hand experience writing software.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Able to understand what it takes to write code and have exposure to large-scale systems.
    • Adept at leading teams of highly talented, independent individuals with a track record of quickly earning credibility based on your knowledge throughout, and amazing accomplishments.
    • Expert at the practical application of program management principles and tools.
    • Technical knowledge of the Android platform and ecosystem.
