    Technical Lead, Governance Practice

    The Role:

    Work closely with the Governance Practice Leader to provide strategic guidance and thought leadership within the areas of Integrated Development and Environmental Management (with special reference to the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda), Environmental Crime & Corruption and Community Rights & Stewardship. Identify and engage influential actors and institutions to influence the global agenda within the topic areas described above. Ensure close collaboration with the Global Conservation Director and Global Policy Co-ordination Support Unit to ensure co-ordinated engagement with major cross-Practice global policy processes

    Main responsibilities:

    • Understand and analyse global trends and provide strategic guidance to WWF and its partners in engaging on one or more of the governance topics mentioned above
    • Identify strategic opportunities and engage major actors and institutions and processes related to these topics with a view to influencing policy and implementation
    • Work with the WWF network and its partners to develop innovative tools, approaches and coalitions (within the above topic areas) that can accelerate the delivery of WWF’s global goals and outcomes
    • Work with WWF and its partners to support the development of large scale proposals that can leverage funding and support for delivering the work of this practice..
    • Provide technical leadership to facilitate shared learning on environmental rights and community stewardship approaches
    • Provide strategic guidance and thought leadership within the specific areas of governance listed above
    • Lead and define strategy to co-design solutions and develop new proposals with recognized expert partners
    • Support the Governance Practice Leader in the development of multi-sectoral coalitions on environmental crime & corruption
    • Develop common tools, approaches and multi-sectoral coalitions that accelerate the roll out of the SDGs and integrated development planning at regional and national levels (e.g. development of Sustainable Development Strategies and plans, Natural Capital Assessments, Green Economy strategies etc)
    • Engage and influence, within their sphere of expertise, to create scalable platforms to convene civil society organizations and communities.
    •  Work with other relevant governance experts to foster and establish new alliances and   coalitions.
    • Establish and develop innovative approaches and relevant tools.
    • Act as a point of reference and expertise for Focal points and other Practices.

    Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

    • University degree in International Relations, Political Science, Sustainable development or other related fields
    • Relevant post graduate qualification desirable.
    • Perfect command of English language and any other language/s an asset. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to uunderstand and analyze global geopolitical dynamics and trends in governance and guide network strategy
    • Specific expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Integrated Development planning (global, regional and national) and integrated environmental management
    • Environmental crime and corruption
    • Environmental rights and stewardship
    • Demonstrated experience in building large scale coalitions, alliances or platforms that leverage the capacity of all partners towards a change agenda
    • A network of external relationships that extends beyond the current WWF reach with evidence of agility in action combined with an optimistic yet realistic approach.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and connect with broad range of people, and work as part of a multi-dimensional team that cuts across the WWF Network.
    • Able to navigate complex issues and organizational complexity and executes high quality work in a timely way
    • Positive influence to galvanize the Network stakeholder around a shared agenda.
    • Adheres to WWF’s values, which are: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging.
