Assembly Engineer at M-KOPA Solar

JOB PURPOSE:

The job holder is responsible for installing, maintaining, and operating Smartphone assembly systems including the HVAC system, 3 phase electrical system, troubleshooting, conducting smartphone repairs, and reworks, and implementing process improvements to increase output on the production line.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS

• Main activities that are undertaken by the jobholder and are reflective of the most important features of the job.

Maintain production equipment & Machines

• Undertake Tests, Inspection, and Maintenance of a wide range of line electromechanical equipment and accessories including Motors, Compressor, Conveyors & control panels to ensure they are in functional order prior to and/ or after use.
• Diagnose problems in the production line equipment and provide necessary recommendations and training
• Work with external third parties to diagnose repair & maintain HVAC, Single & 3 Phase circuits & Structured cabling networks
• Ensure that all equipment is maintained in an energy-efficient and safe manner, and downtime is reduced to a minimum by anticipation of necessary repairs, keeping records of past operating experience
• General fault finding and repair to Electrical systems, sanity ware, and drainage.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive callouts in all assembly lines on all associated electrical equipment, general fault finding, and repairs to electrical assets and services
• Maintaining, implementing, or improving electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems
• Calibration & resetting of process equipment & machines

Process Improvement & Creating solutions to problems

• Provide technical and engineering skills to resolve operational issues while meeting objectives of lowering cost and/or improving productivity
• Solve problems that arise in planning, prioritizing, organizing, directing/facilitating action, and evaluating performance.
• Use systematic processes of collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing information to evaluate current practice and generate new understandings about practice.
• Develops and maintains specialized knowledge of current and emerging technologies
• Explore new technology solutions to be able to provide solutions out of the box
• Analyzes and develops resolutions for problems involving availability and/or performance at the system level
• Conduct regular training of assembly line workers as needed.
• Actively promote process improvement to ensure compliance with industry standards and Regulations
• Identification of subsequent changes to manufacturing and assembly drawings as necessary

Testing & Repair of mobile devices

• Inspecting electrical components during and after the product installation
• Replace parts and repair faults in mobile phones.
• Deconstruct mobile devices to analyze faults, perform the replacement or recycle parts
• Apply the information, such as periodic maintenance charts, step-by-step repair instructions/manuals, troubleshooting information, and overhaul procedures to perform routine maintenance and repairs.

Documentation

• The identification and/or generation of all documentation related to the integration of new products into the production environment.
• Generate and implement operating procedures and work instructions
• Maintain written records of all repairs and maintenance interventions undertaken, including information on the parts and materials used, etc.
• The identification and/or generation of all documentation related to the integration of new products into the production environment
• Establish construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations.
• Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), to document and present information.

Upholding Safety

• Ensure all safe systems of work are employed for workshop-based tasks to ensure high standards of health & safety in the workplace are maintained
• Design, optimize and ensure processes meet requirements for standards, safety, and datelines.

EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS & COMPETENCIES/ LICENCES & CERTIFICATIONS/ EDUCATION REQUIRED

• Degree in BEng/BSc. in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics Engineering 
• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in electrical & Electronics or Mechanical operations
• Ability to communicate technical information on a regular basis, both verbally and in writing
• Well-versed with the various systems, tools, and procedures used in testing & failure analysis 
• Experience in using or a desire to learn the required software.
• Knowledge of applicable codes related to electronic engineering.
• Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
• Good skills in CAD
• Good attitude towards acquiring new knowledge
• Able to work under pressure and tight datelines
• Self-motivated and able to work independently
• Good Interpersonal skills
• Hands-On experience working with embedded systems
• Experience in troubleshooting computers (RS232, Ethernet, drivers)
