Assistant Head of Kitchen at Nexus Staffing Solutions

Our client, a hospitality establishment based in Karen, Nairobi, is looking for an experienced and dependable Assistant Head of Kitchen to support the Head of Kitchen in managing daily kitchen operations.

The successful candidate will assist in supervising the kitchen team, coordinating food preparation, maintaining food quality and ensuring high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Head of Kitchen in managing daily kitchen operations.
• Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff during food preparation and service.
• Assist in planning and organising food preparation.
• Ensure food is prepared according to established recipes and quality standards.
• Maintain consistency in taste, presentation and portion control.
• Assist with monitoring kitchen stock and inventory.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of food and ingredients.
• Monitor food wastage and support effective portion control.
• Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness and hygiene.
• Assist in implementing food safety and health standards.
• Support training and mentoring of junior kitchen staff.
• Coordinate kitchen activities during busy service periods.
• Report stock, equipment and operational issues to the Head of Kitchen.
• Take responsibility for kitchen operations in the absence of the Head of Kitchen when required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience as an Assistant Head Chef, Sous Chef, Senior Cook or similar kitchen supervisory role.
• Good knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operations.
• Previous experience supervising or coordinating kitchen staff.
• Good understanding of food hygiene and safety requirements.
• Ability to maintain consistent food quality and presentation.
• Good knowledge of stock handling and portion control.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Relevant culinary training or certification will be an added advantage.
