    Chief Executive, Kenya

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ultimately accountable for driving Bank’s growth and sustainability in Kenya;
    • Ensuring the achievement of Financial Gains, Brand Enhancement, Governance, Compliance, and Risk Management;
    • Articulates and sets the strategic direction and business objectives (client centric approach) for Kenya, in line with Sub-Regional business objectives and Interface with other parts of the group;
    • Takes overall accountability for building and maintaining a strong brand and reputation in Kenya as aligned to Group;
    • Supported by the Regional leadership, this role influences the business lines to adapt strategies and product deployment to local conditions, to ensure the relevance and market positioning of the Bank in Kenya;
    • Directs, develops and manages the teams in Kenya, in partnership with matrix;
    • Ensures delivery of revenues and net earnings through delivery of an appropriate range of banking products;
    • Accountability for the Bank in Kenya;
    • Managing relationships across an array of stakeholders, from clients to regulators;
    • Setting the Country’s strategy and budgeting ensuring alignment across the Region and with Group priorities;
    • Setting and driving the strategy for Kenya, aligned to Group strategy, by taking into account the local context, risks and opportunities in order to drive revenue, market penetration and client centricity;
    • Manage trade-offs across business lines and corporate functions in Kenya, driving what is best for the Bank both on a global as well as on a local level;
    • Work closely with all client segments in Kenya to cascade strategy and ensure a good balance between Group strategic priorities across business4lines, corporate functions, products and local market potential, to optimize cross-product opportunities and expand the client offerings;
    • Execute required standards, in line with Group frameworks and local and international regulatory requirements, in order to ensure that the franchise operations are safeguarded.
    • Represent the Country operation and manage local regulators and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations;
    • Own client relationship in Kenya and manage client delivery, performance and experience, in order to retain client loyalty and grow the client portfolio, aligned to Country strategy and Group client strategy;
    • Assess the trade offs required to best match services and offerings to client needs and expectations;
    • Innovate around available solutions and processes and remain competitive in a diverse environment, taking into account Group strategy;
    • Implement product strategy and drive product penetration across the various business lines in Kenya, managing trade off decisions, to drive sales and profitability, while meeting client’s requirements and expectations; and
    • Provide support and oversight to the sales teams to ensure alignment of product to market needs.

    Requirements

    • Be a holder of a First Degree in Commerce or Business Administration or equivalent;
    • Possess a professional qualification in the following fields CA, CFA, CIMA, FCCA, Banking or equivalent;
    • Have at least eight (8) years experience in a c-suite role involving managing major line (s) of business in financial services industry;
    • Be visionary and be able establish effective plans that take into consideration long-term aspects;
    • Be able to make decisions, as well as willing to take responsibility for his or decisions when under pressure;
    • Leading people as well as coordinating people and resources;
    • Be able to embrace change;
    • Effective in managing productivity;
    • Ability to uphold standards within the organisation ensuring that high quality products and services are provided as well as ensuring that trust is created and maintained;
    • Demonstrable competency in resolving conflicts in the workplace;
    • Be able to empower others including encouraging others, motivating as well as inspiring others;
    • Have ability to facilitate or catalyse change in an organisation;
    • Be able to provide due consideration to risks, rewards and the cost of control measures in evaluating business opportunities, process and system changes;
    • Have ability to translate the organisation's vision and long term goals into medium and short term deliverables;
    • Have knowledge and understanding of costing, budgeting and finance concepts and the understanding and application of related processes and procedures;
    • Have ability to identify and capitalise on opportunities and manage risks; and
    • Be able to create mechanisms to ensure that designed processes are implemented correctly and that process changes are made thoughtfully, taking into consideration the impacts on people, other processes and technology.
