    Project Facilitator, Kenya, West Pokot

    About you

    • The successful candidate will have strong knowledge and demonstrated practical experience in community development involving application of sustainable development methodologies, knowledge in extension services delivery, experience in developing effective plans, implementing, and monitoring the plans and working in youth support programmes. They must be an experienced motorcycle rider.
    • The Project Facilitator is responsible for effectively implement Ripple Effect’s activities in the field according to objectives of the Boresha Mazingira West Pokot Project. The role will be at the forefront of project implementation, working daily with farmers and other stakeholders.

    Project implementation

    • Be responsible for the overall implementation of project activities in the allocated project area.
    • Assist in farm planning, especially during identification and preparation of new groups/farmers
    • Work with farmers’ self-help groups’ in different matters concerning group management and leadership and general project management
    • Formulate detailed work plans to implement activities which address identified development needs of project participants, families and communities.

    Stakeholder engagement

    • Support farmers with various advisory services in areas of Farm systems (including Livestock management and development activities; Sustainable agriculture, and Natural Resources Management), Gender and Social Inclusion, and enterprise development activities for their social economic development.
    • Ensure selection, establishment and functioning of community volunteers’ and their forums.
    • Organise field visits with project stakeholders during the donor visits.
    • Ensure good working relations with all stakeholders (beneficiaries, group leaders, community opinion leaders and government officials) and maintain Ripple Effect’s profile.

    Monitoring and evaluation    

    • Participate in data collection and documentation of success stories and case studies where required for continuous updates of project progress.
    • Ensure farmers are followed up regularly and retrained in areas unclear to them.
    • Work closely with Project Coordinator to establish local project’s steering committees and with government technicians and local leaders to ensure sustainability of farmer groups and their activities after graduation.

    Capacity building

    • Train farmers in Ripple Effect’s integrated approach.

    Reporting and documentation

    • Support farmers and ensure that the appropriate simple farm records are in place and are in use among all project participants.
    • Write and submit monthly reports and support Project Coordinator to prepare quarterly, semester, and annual project progress reports and any other reports when required.

    Other duties    

    • Ensure compliance with Ripple Effect policies and all relevant legislation.
    • Act at all times according to Ripple Effect’s values and in support of its Africa Forward Together approach.
    • To undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by the line manager.

    Person specification
    Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Bachelor of Agriculture with a specialty in any of these fields’ agronomy, extension services, environmental science, soil and water management, rural development, or other related fields. or Diploma in the same field.

    Experience and knowledge

    Essential:

    • Strong field development experience involving application of sustainable methodologies.
    • Knowledge in extension services delivery.
    • Experience of monitoring and managing budgets and work plans.

    Desirable:

    • Experience in NGO work.
    • Community development experience
    • Experience in research and development

    Skills and attributes

    Essential:

    • Ability to encourage and empower rural communities.
    • Ability to conduct training programmes.
    • Strong communication and report writing skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with ability to collaborate with government and development partners.
    • Proficient in IT/computers with basic Excel and Database skills
    • Local language skills
    • Self-motivated and proactive
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Team player with flexibility
    • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality
    • Ability to ride a motorbike with a valid permit.

    Finance and Administration Assistant – Kenya, West Pokot

    Role purpose

    • To support the project staff to ensure smooth office operations and frontline financial compliance in line with established procedures and processes. Provide effective administrative support and facilitate logistics to achieve efficiency, timeliness, cost effectiveness.  

    Key responsibilities

    Compliance and documentation    

    • Review accounting documentation to ensure completeness and compliance with Ripple Effect policies.
    • Ensure project office assets are monitored, secured and maintained through updating the asset register, registering/tagging assets, insuring fixed assets and safe storage.

    Financial data entry

    • Ensure project financial transactions are processed and filed in line with Ripple Effect’s finance manual, including:
    • Ensuring that voucher documents are supported, correct and entered into the system.
    • Ensuring the timely follow up of the activity advances taken by project staff & that justification documentations are correct and complete

    Financial reporting    

    • Work closely with country finance staff to assist with the monthly/quarterly reporting to management and donors, including generation of project spending reports to highlight any variances to the budget.

    Administrative support    

    • Assist with procurement, ensuring that activity is in line with approved project procurement ceilings and procedures. This includes supporting the sourcing and analysis of quotes to ensure Ripple Effect Kenya gets value for money, following up with suppliers and maintaining procurement files and transactions. 
    • Maintain an up-to-date vendor database including management of preferred supplier contracts in the project area.
    • Provide administrative support to the project team to ensure smooth running of the office operations.
    • Ensure the office environment is well maintained and secure, including monitoring access and keyholders  

    Other duties    

    • Act at all times according to Ripple Effect’s values and in support.
    • To undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by the line manager.

    Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Minimum CPAII or Degree in Business management from a recognised institution, along with post qualification.

    Experience and knowledge

    Essential:

    • Good experience in finance including experience in processing financial transactions, maintaining effective financial and accounting systems and assisting with the preparation of financial and management reports.
    • Experience of providing general business administration is also required. 
    • Supports the monthly and quarterly reporting to management and donors, which involves collating, validating and analysing data and financial information in line with established finance and reporting procedures.
