    Head of Strategic Partnerships and Grants

    About the role

    Burn is looking for a Head of Strategic Partnerships and Grants who will play a pivotal role in driving BURN's mission by managing the full grant cycle, cultivating strategic partnerships, and securing funding to support our clean cooking initiatives.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Partnership Development:

    • Spearhead the development of strategic global partnerships within the clean cooking sector.
    • Provide close relationship management support, including regular check-ins with high-level stakeholders across diverse organizations.
    • Identify and develop new strategic partnerships aligned with BURN's company strategy.
    • Represent BURN at conferences and events in Kenya and abroad, pitching to external parties.

    Pitch Material Design & Development:

    • Collaborate with the marketing team to design and develop effective project and partnership proposals.
    • Maintain and update pitch materials, which are crucial for securing multi-million-dollar partnerships and projects.

    Strategic Projects/Initiatives:

    • Assist the Commercial team in planning, implementing, and tracking strategic projects and initiatives across various geographical markets.
    • Act as an organizer and liaison between BURN's senior management, commercial, carbon, and special project/grants teams.

    Information Gathering:

    • Gather critical market information on the clean cooking sector, carbon offsetting market, distribution partners, competitor activity, and aid and development industries.

    Reporting/Forecasting:

    • Produce regular analytical reports and ad-hoc research papers on key partnerships, business development updates, market landscape, and monthly forecasting and reporting for distribution activities.

    Team Management:

    • Manage the grants team, providing guidance and support in achieving departmental objectives.

    Grant Management:

    • Manage the complete grant cycle, including solicitation, pre-award, award, monitoring, compliance, reporting, and close-out.
    • Research and develop a portfolio of donors to diversify funding sources.
    • Identify new funding opportunities, plan, write, prepare, and present grant proposals, including budgets and timelines.
    • Complete follow-through and stewardship for multiple grants/gifts, ensuring donor expectations are met.
    • Manage the proposal development and submission process, crafting compelling and strategic grant proposals that align with BURN's mission and donor objectives.
    • Provide prospective funders with necessary supporting documents.
    • Execute tailored solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship plans for each grant to meet revenue goals.

    Skills and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; master’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in partnership development, business development and grant management.
    • Proven track record of successfully securing grants and cultivating strategic partnerships.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
    • Knowledge of the clean cooking sector and related markets is a plus.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
    • Proficiency in grant management software and databases.
    • Willingness to travel as needed.

    B2B Sales Channel Manager

    About the Role

    BURN is seeking a Business-to-Business Manager to join the Kenya Commercial Team responsible for growing BURN sales via the following channels: Key Accounts, General Trade, Micro Finance Institutions and Social Distributors.

    The position requires strong selling, planning, coordinating and organizational skills with proven sales/business development background, excellent communication skills, and practical business thinking. The ideal candidate will have hands-on client management and relationship-building and Joint Business Planning experience.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Sales Strategy: Develop and execute the route to market growth strategy for the Indirect Sales (Business to Business) focusing on the following channels: Retail/General Trade, Key Accounts, Social Distributors, Microfinance Institutions and Digital.
    • Channel Management: Provide leadership, direction, and development to all aspects of the company’s indirect distribution and sales channels. Ensure goals and plans are effectively communicated, understood, and applied.
    • Launch & Listing: Work closely with the product & marketing team to ensure timely launching and listing of new SKUs in all the channels.
    • Marketing & SKU Management: In conjunction with Marketing contribute to the development of below & above line sales campaigns based on various SKU growth strategies.
    • Team Management: Build, train, and manage a team of Territory Sales Managers, BURN sales executives and B2B Partner agents across the country.
    • Commission Structure & Compensation: Define appropriate remuneration structures and frameworks (commissions, performance bonuses, incentives) to drive the company’s indirect distribution and sales partners and deliver the set sales targets.
    • Carbon Monitoring and Evaluation: Ensure all Monitoring and Evaluation of carbon project requirements are adhered to, specifically that stoves are sold to households that meet predefined criteria and quality data is collected from every end-end user.
    • Sales Forecasting: Monitor and analyze indirect channel sales volumes, pipeline activity and competitive activity and develop plans to beat the set targets. Monitor and manage product line sales activity across the channels to ensure it meets the company’s standards/ parameters.
    • Reporting: Produce analytical reports for the Management team on the performance of the Indirect Sales Team, including analyzing key sales, marketing, carbon registration, and regional team performance metrics. Provide regular forecasts (city and region level) to the Management team.
    • Budget: Prepare, maintain, and adhere to Kenya B2B Section budget.
    • End-Consumer Customer Service: Oversee End-Consumer customer service in Kenya. Analyze end-consumer data to improve brand, customer service, warranty repair satisfaction, and sales opportunities.

    Skills and Experience:

    • 5 Years of Sales & Marketing Experience in Kenya.
    • 3+ years of Sales and/or Marketing Mid to Senior level Management Experience.
    • B2B Sales and wholesale channel management experience.
    • 3 years experience in New Business Development of Key Accounts.
    • Ability to produce and present professional Strategy, reports, accurate forecasts, and oversee channel sales plans.
    • Experience with sales/marketing of physical products - FMCG is a plus.
    • 3+ years’ experience successfully developing new sales channels.
    • Sales/Marketing Data Analysis experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree from University, ideally in Business - A master’s degree is a plus.

    AWS Cloud Hosting Engineer

    About the role

    Burn is looking for an AWS Cloud Hosting Engineer who will play a pivotal role in ensuring that BURN's cloud infrastructure is well-architected, secure, and optimized for performance. They will contribute to the efficiency and scalability of cloud-based systems, enabling BURN to deliver reliable and cost-effective services to its customers.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • AWS Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and maintain AWS infrastructure to support the organization's cloud-based applications and services. Implement and manage AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, and 2Monitor and optimize AWS resources to ensure cost-effectiveness and scalability.
    • Cloud Environment Administration: Manage and monitor cloud hosting platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Create and manage virtual machines, storage, networking, and security groups in the cloud environment.
    • Cloud Security: Implement and maintain security measures to protect cloud infrastructure from unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats. Configure firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
    • Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor cloud performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and optimize system configurations to ensure efficient resource utilization and high availability. Conduct capacity planning and scaling of resources as needed.
    • Backup and Disaster Recovery: Design and implement backup strategies to ensure data integrity and disaster recovery capabilities for cloud-based systems. Regularly test and verify backups to guarantee recoverability.
    • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve cloud-related issues, including performance degradation, network connectivity problems, and application errors. Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
    • Automation and Scripting: Develop scripts, automation tools, and configuration management solutions to streamline server provisioning, deployment, and maintenance tasks. Leverage technologies like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet for infrastructure automation.
    • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain documentation for server configurations, cloud architecture, procedures, policies and troubleshooting guides. Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to other team members.
    • Collaboration and Project Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, network engineers, and security specialists, to support project initiatives and ensure smooth operations. Participate in infrastructure-related projects and provide expertise and recommendations.
    • Any other duties assigned by the manager.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
    • 4+ years of proven experience in AWS Cloud Hosting Engineering or a similar role.
    • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of servers, operating systems (such as Windows Server, Linux), and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
    • Experience in other cloud hosting platforms (such as GCP, Microsoft Azure, and Linode) is an added advantage.
    • Strong knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, IAM, and CloudFormation.
    • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
    • Understanding of networking principles, protocols, and security (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, SSL/TLS).
    • Familiarity with server and cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, encryption, and vulnerability assessment.
    • Familiarity with cloud security best practices and compliance standards.

    • Hands-on experience with monitoring and performance management tools (e.g., Cloud Watch) and backup/recovery solutions.
