    Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Officer

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    Main Duties include:

    General:

    • Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of project quality, using donor monitoring tools as appropriate.
    • Tracking of Key Performance Indicators as approved by funding
    • Support project leads in routine data collection and documentation of project information that confirms status of project activities based on log-frames for donor reporting.
    • Provide periodic alert to the respective project leads on corrective actions required to avoid delays in implementation, including flagging operational issues and risks requiring timely actions.
    • Travelling as necessary to support field-based teams in program implementation, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation.

    MEAL Tool Development and Data Management

    • Review existing data collection tools for current FEMNET projects.
    • Incorporate staff and partners feedback to ensure the continuous improvement of data collection and management.

    Monitoring and Reporting

    • Support FEMNET partners to develop M&E plans for their projects and offer technical assistance to the partners during implementation.
    • Ensure all FEMNET partners have updated work-plans and performance management plans (PMPs) in line with all approved proposals, regularly reviewing and updating as needed.
    • Review Quarterly progress reports from partners and ensure they have evidence to back-up and provide feedback to the respective project leads.
    • Support the M & E Coordinator in data analysis and timely preparation of Quarterly and Annual M&E Reports and donor reports.
    • Ensure that inclusion and diversity issues such as participation, gender, age, sexual orientation and disability among others are effectively addressed/ mainstreamed in project implementations and reporting as part of ensuring accountability according to FEMNET values and in line with Feminist values and principles.

    Research and Documentation

    • Analyze the impact of projects and promote learning by documentation of best practices with FEMNET staff and partners.
    • Support FEMNET partners in designing and disseminating research studies by providing relevant inputs.
    • Undertake research using appropriate tools with the aim of providing information and analysis on the key policy issues that FEMNET works on to shape policy advocacy work.

    MEL Capacity Strengthening: –

    • Review the reporting needs of FEMNET’s partners to have an understanding of the demand for reporting results.
    • Review reports, audits and evaluations, identify learning opportunities based on identified problems, review solutions and identify how to feedback this information into programmes, training and capacity building.
    • Identification of FEMNET staff capacity development gaps in terms of Feminist MEL and work with department Heads to improve the quality of the MEL;
    • Conduct trainings and continuous capacity to FEMNET’s relevant staff members and partners/members in line with the MEL -identified gaps.
    • Any other duties as may be assigned.

    Required Qualifications, Skills, knowledge, and Competencies.

    Education and Experience

    • Be a Bachelor and/or a master’s degree holder in social sciences, Monitoring and Evaluation, Development studies or other relevant disciplines from a recognized university.
    • At least 5 years relevant work experience at international, regional or sub- regional level.
    • Experience in MEL system design and implementation.
    • Proven experience in, exposure to, and capability for collaborative work, nurturing of networks and alliances and motivate people.
    • Sound knowledge on national, regional and international gender and its mainstreaming strategies, leadership development and generally women’s rights issues in Africa.
    • Have good and proven knowledge on different monitoring and evaluation frameworks and tracking tools. Exceptional knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, and impact) and data collection and analysis methodologies.
    • Identify with FEMNETs Feminist values and principles;
    • Understanding of feminist methods and innovative approaches is strongly desired.
    • Knowledge about women’s human rights at the regional and/or international level. – An understanding of feminist issues, advocacy and/ or donor environment around women’s rights.
    • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-interest, multi-ethnic environment.

    • Ability to communicate and work effectively in English. Competence in French will be added advantage.
    • Ability to break down complex information into actionable points.
    • Willing to travel frequently within Africa and beyond.

    Climate Justice Coordinator

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    Main duties include.

    Coordination of Climate Justice  Activities:  The objective of this position is to lead implementation of the Climate Justice   and natural resource governance program in FEMNET and ensure timely and quality coordination of activities.  The Climate Justice   Coordinator will ensure this by:

    • Lead implementation of FEMNET ‘Climate Justice  program activities for Africa region and global
    • Manage budget for the Climate Justice  FEMNET program.
    • Integrate Climate Justice  within the other thematic focus areas in FEMNET.
    • Represent FEMNET in different policy spaces and partner meetings.
    • Lead coordination of joint learning, planning, and monitoring of Climate Justice

    Programme Support

    • Support consistency and links between the Climate Justice  program and other regional and international programmes.
    • Ensure consistency of the Climate Justice  activities at national and regional levels and advise on potential areas of collaboration between Climate Justice   implementing partners.
    • Support linkage of Climate Justice  with other relevant initiatives.

    Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning.

    • Coordinate the joint monitoring and evaluation in accordance with the FEMNET Monitoring Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Principles and Guidelines
    • Facilitate linking and learning between the different Climate Justice  program components.
    • Responsible for facilitating and overseeing the joint planning and monitoring process and for compiling and submitting annual plans and reports.
    • Monitoring and safeguarding of the meaningful engagement of African women and girls in all their diversities.
    • Management of budget for, and coordination of, joint activities.

    Movement Building: The Climate Justice  Coordinator will

    • Strengthen solidarity across horizontal and vertical socioeconomic and geographical stratifications in the spirit of building inclusive climate change movement.
    • Coordinate and nurture a community of socially excluded Climate Justice  activists within FEMNET network.
    • Strengthen the capacity of FEMNET implementing partners on working with diverse group of actors.
    • Work with women’s rights organizations and socially excluded Climate Justice  activists to enhance their knowledge and strengthen their engagement on Climate Justice.
    • Design and lead solidarity actions across the broader FEMNET members.

    Required Qualifications, Skills, knowledge, and Competencies.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognised university.
    • Experience working at the African regional level and/or international levels including experience working with African Union Institutions/Organs and UN Bodies.
    • Strong Information Technology (IT) & Information System (IS) skills, including Microsoft Office packages, ERPs etc.
    • At least 5 years’ experience working on climate policies and spaces.
    • Demonstrate commitment to Charter of African Feminist Principles
    • Demonstrate leadership skills and experience.
    • Proven research, analytical skills and ability to apply them in inter-disciplinary contexts.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills to a wide range of audiences
    • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-interest, multi-ethnic environment.

    Communication Consultant

    Objectives of the Academy

    The central objective of the African Feminist Academy for Climate Justice is to build collective power (power of knowledge) of African women and girls to advance climate justice, disrupt oppressive systems and recreate just, equal, and sustainable societies for people and the planet.  Specifically, the academy will:

    • Strengthen the capacity of Women Rights Organizations (WRO), Girls and Young Women organizations (GYWOs) female journalists and feminist activists and frontline activist groups on climate change issues in Africa using feminist lens.
    • Build a cohort of feminists, WROs, GYWOs leaders and journalists passionate about climate justice and committed to changing the climate change narrative in Africa.
    • Generate body of knowledge on Africa feminist climate justice for policy influencing to challenge the existing climate justice narratives from a feminist and gendered perspective.

    Objective/ Purpose of Assignment

    Working closely with the Communications Lead, the Consultant is expected t o support the communications team in the design and implementation of strategic social media engagement before, during and after the of the Academy which will be held from 10th to 14th July,2023. Specific tasks include:-

    • Using canva or Adobe in-design to create compelling written, visual and engaging content to promote the Academy, highlighting its significance and encouraging active participation from the Academy participants.
    • Enhance online engagement through FEMNET’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and You Tube), fostering meaningful conversations and interactions related to the critical issues that will be discussed during the Academy.
    • Map out target audience to engage with and curate aspirations, priorities and lived realities of frontline climate activists represented at the Academy.
    • Generate digital engagement analytics after the Academy.

    Key Deliverables and Outputs

    • Social medial toolkit – including key messages, target audience and tactics for increasing online engagement.
    • A report capturing the digital analytics and audience engagement.
    • Blog giving an overview of the Academy, visibilizing the voices and priorities of frontline activists.
    • Images/ photos and short videos capturing memorable moments during the Academy.

    Required Qualification, Skills and Competencies

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, social media engagement, or other related field such as journalism, public relations, marketing, or in international relations, development studies or gender studies. Master’s degree would be an advantage.
    • 4-5 years relevant work experience.
    • Experience in various forms of communications production and marketing, such as publications, Internet communication strategies, and campaigning.
    • Proven writing, editing and design skills, and an ability to convey complex ideas in a concise, clear, direct, and lively style.
