    Geo Spatial Data Officer – GS5

    Reporting to the Manager, Geospatial Data & Technologies, the Geo Spatial Data Officer will be responsible for the acquisition, documentation, dissemination, and preservation of geospatial
    data for internal and external users.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide the necessary Geoscience data management analysis and support: data loading, quality control, transfer, manipulating, archiving, restoring etc.
    • Manipulate and manage a variety of geospatial datasets, ensure its completeness and correctness and use spatial database models to facilitate Geo-Information Management;
    • Operate the Data Dissemination System;
    • Clean, catalogue and archive data received through Data Dissemination System;
    • Manage geonetcast and data dissemination system receiving stations;
    • Manage and maintain (reference) exploration databases;
    • Update and maintain the data portals of the Centre;
    • Perform data quality check and standard of data;
    • Implement and follow organization standards, best practices and workflows to ensure quality, confidentiality, security and integrity of data.
    • Data catalogue and preparation;
    • Data dissemination to internal and external users; and
    • Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

    Academic qualification:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Remote Sensing, GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Data Science, Geoinformatics or a related field;
    • Three (3) years of work experience in Geo Information Applications

    Professional qualification:

    • Qualifications relevant to Geo Information

    Salary Scale: 

    • The salary for the above position is consolidated and is in the range of: GS5: Ksh. 713,807 by Ksh. 35,315 to ksh 1,031,648 p.a.

    Entry point for the position will be determined by qualifications and experience.

    Data Marketing Officer - GS5

    Reporting to the Manager, Geospatial Data & Technologies, the Data Marketing Officer will be responsible for data identification, marketing and selling.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Market the organisation’s products to new clients;
    • Data identification and selling;
    • Initiate transfer of funds for data purchase;
    • Assist in development of applications and value-added products;
    • Regularly assess the availability of new data and products;
    • Download data from different sources;
    • Record client requirements;
    • Liaise with Finance Division in preparing quotations, pricing and payments;
    • Handle clients and visitors seeking information on data types, need and application; and
    • Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

    Academic qualification:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Remote Sensing, GIS, Geography, Environmental Science or a related field;
    • Three (3) years of work experience in Geo-Information Applications

    Technician (Remote Sensing/GIS)

    Reporting to the Thematic Lead, Weather & Climate, the individual will be required to execute the following duties and responsibilities:

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Downloading, archiving, and converting different satellite data formats for further analysis.
    • Analyzing and synthesizing environment information (land use, weather, water quality, oceanography, etc) using satellite remote sensing data from different satellite missions.
    • Developing programming scripts (e.g. using shell programming, python, R, IDL, NCL etc) for batch processing and analyzing remote sensing imagery.
    • Carrying out statistical analysis of station/field and remote sensing data using open source and commercial software packages (e.g ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, GMT,
    • FERRET, NCL, GraDs, SAGA GIS, QGIS, R etc) to develop data derived products useful for science and policy making.
    • Producing findings in form of maps, tables, figures etc that communicate accurate content of results.
    • Participating in field work and/or meetings outside RCMRD, related to tasks under your work. Compilation of field and meeting reports and forwarding to your supervisors.
    • Submitting timely reports (scientific and non-scientific) detailing findings of each task assigned by the relevant task leads, producing conference materials such as posters and power point slides that are useful for disseminating the findings of your work.
    • Carry out any other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisors.

    Qualifications and experience

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in either Ecology, Rangeland Management, Ecological Modeling, Water Resources Management, Climate Change, Meteorology and weather-related fields, disaster management, climate related disaster resilience or related field;
    • Demonstrated experience in use of GIS and RS in the above fields.
    • Ability to understand major environment and climate related issues facing the eastern and southern Africa region.
    • Capable of interpreting ideas and suggesting appropriate geo-spatial tools and/or techniques usable for solving a problem.
    • Preferably possess One (1) year experience in use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs or drones) for environmental work, and capacity to process the data for various applications, especially mapping. Being a recognized drone pilot by KCCA will be an added advantage.

    • The position is for an initial fixed-term of two (2) years, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds.

    Regional Resource Hub Communication Coordinator

    The Regional Resource Hub (RRH) wishes to recruit a Communication Coordinator who will be based at RCMRD, Nairobi Kenya. The successful candidate will be responsible for all BIOPAMA RRH communications, both in support of its effective implementation and to raise its visibility and profile. A key role of this position will be to develop and oversee the implementation of the RRH Branding and Marketing Plan. This position requires a professional with strong communication and writing skills, a high degree of attention to detail and ability to interface with web-based and social media platforms.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Leading the development and implementation of the BIOPAMA RRH Communications and Visibility Plan Strategy as well as its Branding and Marketing Plan in particular.
    • Exploring and evaluating scenario options for the implementation of communications activities.
    • Defining brand strategy and positioning, managing the brand and providing clear brand guidelines for its protection, and tracking and measuring its performance to inform future activity.
    • Overseeing or directly designing and deploying strategic communication products for enhancing BIOPAMA RRH delivery, out-scaling and resource leveraging, including those which contribute to building strategic relationships with key government institutions, private sector partners, IUCN, JRC and other stakeholders.
    • Working closely with the program partners, keep track of outreach campaigns, events and activities, and support the design of engaging marketing and public relations materials.
    • Developing draft terms of reference for necessary communications services, including designing of innovative communication activities.
    • Ensuring efficient and effective documentation and information management, updating relevant internal information management systems/platform in a timely manner.
    • Leading in contributing to writing, rewriting, and editing material in English languages of project site for institutional branding and promotional material and produce publications
    • (as needed) together with the technical staff involved in the running of the RRH.
    • Coordinating proactively with the global BIOPAMA Communications Outreach and Engagement team to ensure project activities are effectively promoted at regional and global levels.
    • Designing and developing BIOPAMA RRH project communications campaigns.
    • Developing specific project communications templates and other communications products.
    • Developing a monitoring and reporting system in order to gauge progress of communication and marketing activities.
    • Managing stakeholder relationships
    • Website content management
    • Any other communication work related with the project as assigned.

    Qualifications and experience

    • Master’s degree in relevant discipline in communication, media, journalism or related field.
    • At least 5 years of prior experience in donor-funded projects and or/development programs.
    • Excellent oral and written skills in English is required.
    • Demonstrated capacity of handling multimedia platforms and social media accounts.
    • Strong skills in conceptualization, communication, and reporting.
    • Develop and maintain partnerships and working relationships with multiple stakeholders in the communication field.
    • Exceptional abilities in written and relational communication skills (e.g. speaking and active listening), especially in a cross-cultural environment.
    • Good skills in use of standard software packages (MS Office).
    • Personal attributes and competencies
    • Strong organization and event management skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a multicultural environment and across different task teams.
    • Marketing experience would be an added advantage.

    • The expected renumeration package for this position shall be Ksh.185,000 per month.
