    Engineer – Cloud, Container & SRE Engineer

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Reporting to the Cloud, Container & SRE Chapter Lead the position holder shall provide expertise in planning and operations of the Container & Cloud platforms to support DevOps and Business projects by building robust data pipelines using ETL tools thus having releases through automated CI / CD processes

    The main duties are:

    • Agile practices and ways of working, including the use of tools such as Jira & Confluence
    • Sharing expertise with Squad members and working cross-functionally to advance the work of the Squad
    • Responsible for building, maintaining and supporting high-performance, fault-tolerant, scalable and distributed Platform as a Service systems.
    • Responsible for interfacing with application development teams to ensure applications fit within the infrastructure with scalability, reliability and security designed and implemented from the onset. 
    • Work as a Squad Member in the domain of expertise, helping to advance the work and using the experience to maximize Squad performance
    • Responsible for establishing and improving team processes and workflows to maximize efficiency and productivity of people and systems. 
    • Responsible for reviewing  cloud technologies and defining digital transformation models and roadmaps.
    • Lead in automation of infrastructure at massive scale to support scaling of digital services.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Service Quality Management: Ensure container management platforms perform within or exceed KPIs, ensure ability of the system to support specific forms of traffic, and to support end user experience. The same should be tracked using SLAs.
    • Resolve faults on all systems deployed for containers and container management platforms.
    • Escalate to supplier if needed and follow up until resolution
    • Quick Turnaround time to resolve emerging threats / issues
    • Develop & utilize new products & service acceptance criteria. Active participation in the section to enable team meet sectional and departmental Goals and objectives.
    • Have a full understanding of the defined performance indicators, assign tasks, and objectives set.
    • Operate within approved CAPEX & OPEX expenditure for the section to meet sectional objectives.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • BSc Degree in computer science, IT or engineering.
    • 3+ years' experience working with RedHat OpenShift Infrastructure design, deployment and operational support
    • Extensive knowledge of Linux Containers (Docker), Kubernetes, and deployment of containerized applications/microservices architectures
    • Experience with Container/PaaS orchestration/management platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, CloudFoundry.
    • Extensive knowledge of enterprise Linux Server Operating Systems such as RHEL/ CentOS, Ubuntu.
    • Deep conceptual and applied understanding of DevOps concepts, tools, and practices
    • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Git, Jenkins, Nexus, Tekton or comparable substitutes
    • Good understanding of build tools, CI/CD, Devops and Agile principles.
    • Cloud knowledge and integration models.
    • Experience with Configuration Management eg Chef, Ansible, Terraform.

    Engineer - RAN Capacity Management

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Reporting to the Manager – RAN Capacity Planning, the role holder will carry out RAN Network Capacity Planning and RAN Site database update and parameter standardization. He/She will be required to continuously monitor the RAN capacity KPI’s using network planning tools and take appropriate actions to improve quality, capacity, coverage and network performance by capacity upgrades, deploying enhanced features and fine-tuning RAN parameters. 

    He/She will also be responsible for issuing long term network capacity plans based on resource utilization, RAN Upgrade project management and coordination.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Coordinate assigned RAN Capacity network projects: Ensure project timelines and standards are met and that all project reports and documentation are complete and timely;
    • Radio Network Capacity Planning: Analyze traffic trends, resource utilization, redistribute capacity and optimize resources to guarantee capacity;
    • Executing Network dimensioning tasks to address capacity and coverage requirements by optimally Optimizing network interfaces and nodes to cater for 2G/3G/LTE voice and data traffic.
    • Trigger for new capacity sites in accordance with the agreed triggers for capacity sites and forward to RF Planning Team for release of nominal plans, redesigns and integration parameters;
    • Network capacity Optimization: Continuously monitor the capacity KPI’s on network planning tools. Trigger corrective optimization plans and manage to completion;
    • Site database update and parameter standardization: Standardization of all RAN parameters. Maintain standards/parameter rules on all radio database parameters;
    • Identification of Potential bottlenecks in the end to end network and escalate to Regional Networks & Core teams the related concerns;
    • New Enhanced Features: Deploy enhanced features to improve RAN network performance

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree in Electrical, Electronics ,Telecommunication Engineering, computer science, IT  or any technical related field
    • Excellent analytical skills and  attention to details, Communication and interpersonal skills, Excellent trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
    • 3 years’ experience in telecommunication with hands–on experience in Radio Network planning.
    • Practical knowledge on use of radio planning tools and capacity planning tools, MySQL, M2000, NetAct, Advanced Excel,  Erlang-B etc.
    • Experience in process automation and database audits interfacing with planning tools.
    • SQL database queries and scripting for data manipulation, GIS and crowd source analytics is an added advantage.
    • Candidates with experience in Nokia or Huawei RAN equipment will have an added advantage.
    • Practical knowledge of all RATs and interoperability is must.
    • Thorough knowledge in traffic modeling, coverage and capacity forecasting& management. 
    • Knowledge of Core access planning, Paging and LAC dimensioning.

    Engineer - Problem Management

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Reporting to the Manager – Problem Management the position holder will track initiatives to prevent Problems and resulting Incidents from happening, to eliminate recurring Incidents and to minimize the impact of Incidents that cannot be prevented. 

    He/ She will spearhead continuous service Improvement through co-ordination, evaluation, execution, and monitoring of quality initiatives

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Problem detection, problem logging, problem categorization and problem prioritization.
    • Problem Investigation and diagnosis through Root Cause Analysis.
    • Problem Resolution, Problem Closure and Documentation.
    • Participate in Problem Review meetings.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Degree in Electrical & Electronics / Telecommunications / Computer Science or Information Technology
    • 4 - 6 years BTS network rollout experience. At least 3 years in GSM related works.
    • Strong written and verbal communication, with an ability to articulate issues simply, concisely, accurately, and clearly for both technical working teams and executives,
    • 2-3 years IT Service Management experience with knowledge of IT platforms, Operating Systems, User Support and Safaricom Systems, 
    • Good knowledge of ITIL 4 Practices is a must.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data-driven techniques, analyze and interpret data to drive meaningful insights and continued focus on Continuous Improvement to Senior Management,

    Senior Manager/ Lead- Roaming and International Services

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Reporting to the Tribe Lead – Enterprise Solutions, the role holder will be required to identify and enhance all key opportunities of Roaming and International Services, deliver planned footprint rollout for both inbound & outbound and monitor and grow Inbound revenues. In addition, the role holder will negotiate & effectively track outbound costs, develop roadmap for roaming Value-Added Services and develop robust framework for International Services. Part of the responsibilities will also include growing International Voice Services and SMS Services and Negotiate & effectively monitor international calling costs and Sms costs. 

    The role holder will also be expected to manage key relations & partnerships, represent the business at key networking events regionally & internationally and identify and pursue large scale opportunities international business. In addition, he/she should stay updated on emerging market trends across legal, regulatory and technological landscapes. Further to this, the role holder will conduct process audit and secure key compliance certifications as well as  Implement risk management audits for critical service.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Deliver planned footprint rollout for both Inbound & Outbound 

    • Coordinate and project manage bilateral roaming partners and all other outsourced partners to deliver against Safaricom rollout plan, in line with the commercial priorities. 
    • Drive contract negotiations and drafting (with legal support) all the way up to signature.
    • Contract ownership for all bilateral roaming contracts. Which includes creating a comprehensive database where all deviations for all bilateral roaming partners is managed.
    • Oversee and manage the process of setting up the configuration of new roaming partners for both IREG and TADIG testing by all concerned parties.
    • Coordinate and assist with the troubleshooting activities with all concerned parties as appropriate.
    • Ensure that all testing criteria have been met and communicate with all concerned parties the outcome of testing and service readiness.
    • Track and note various business models being used regionally and internationally to develop and growth wholesale sales.
    • Explore different roaming technologies that deliver excellent and improved services to the roaming customer at affordable prices.
    • Ensure compliance with GSMA guidelines and protocols.

    Monitor & grow Inbound Revenues   

    • Track and monitor on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis revenue growth against set budgetary targets.
    • Develop a well thought out IOT e commercial mode framework that ensures regulatory compliance while optimizing inbound roaming opportunities for the business.
    • Develop effective business case that clearly justify investment potential for new inbound roaming opportunities.
    • Monitor and track roaming pricing both locally and international for similar products.
    • Minimize revenue leakage due to under-reporting and incomplete recognition of revenue.

    Develop Roadmap for new Roaming Valued Added Services (VAS) 

    • Identify new roaming customer segments that can drive valued added services for roaming customers.
    • Monitor and track product pricing both locally and international for similar VAS products.
    • Minimize revenue leakage due to under-reporting and incomplete recognition of revenue.

    Manage Outbound Roaming Costs

    • Ensure all IOTs for outbound and properly tracked and implemented on TAP in the system.
    • Ensure all testing impacting outbound roaming scenarios are done effectively to minimize cost over-runs.
    • Develop robust and insightful business cases that help demonstrate the more effective cost strategy.
    • Ensure quality is not compromised via Sim-box and is a key compliment in optimizing the cost framework.
    • Institute a clear framework for mitigating fraud by liaising effectively with internal stakeholders and developing complementary tools that proactively mitigate fraud

    Develop Robust framework for International Services

    • Carry out a SWOT analysis to identify potential areas of new business.
    • Track and note various business models being used regionally and internationally to develop and grow international interconnect and SMS
    • Carry out extensive research and market intelligence to identify new opportunities for growth of revenues.
    • The framework should include clear decision milestones for review of the international interconnect rates and their implications on retail. 
    • Document a clear roadmap with the necessary SWOT implications built in that will inform the business and drive its international interconnect & SMS strategy.

    Grow International Voice Services 

    • Track and monitor on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis revenue growth against set budgetary targets.
    • Ensure framework is in place to proactively manage and monitor SIM-box abuse and misuse.
    • Minimize revenue leakage due to under-reporting and incomplete recognition of revenue.

    Grow International SMS Services   

    • Track and monitor on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis revenue growth against set budgetary targets.
    • Ensure framework in place to proactively manage and monitor SIM-box abuse and misuse.
    • Minimize revenue leakage due to under-reporting and incomplete recognition of revenue.

    International Calling Costs   

    • Using Least Cost routing identify effective framework that is dynamic and responsive to the needs of the business for routing all international outgoing calls.
    • Ensure routes identified maximize calling quality.
    • Institute a clear framework for mitigating fraud by liaising effectively with internal stakeholders and developing complementary tools that proactively mitigate fraud.

    International SMS Costs   

    • Using Least Cost routing identify effective framework that is dynamic and responsive to the needs of the business for routing all international outgoing sms
    • Ensure routes identified maximize sms quality and delivery.
    • Institute a clear framework for mitigating fraud by liaising effectively with internal stakeholders and developing complementary tools that proactively mitigate fraud

    Manage Key relations & partnerships.   

    • Prepare and maintain an effective annual calendar that optimize the relationships with various operators, partners & outsourced roaming providers to enhance competition.
    • Develop an effective framework for monitoring effective partnerships.
    • Explore new partnership opportunities that create opportunities for growth.

    Attend Key networking events.   

    • Identify and plan for all known key events touching on Interconnect, roaming and messaging.
    • Attend at least one key networking event annually.
    • Document and implement learnings for the benefit for the business.
